SPARTANBURG, SC (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson says Tuesday he thinks the legacy of Ronald Reagan is alive and well in the United States.
The former Tennessee senator told a crowd of more than 100 people at a Spartanburg restaurant Tuesday morning that to say the Reagan coalition is dead is like saying the Constitution is dead.
Thompson says he looks forward to appointing federal judges who would strictly follow the Constitution.
He says it's important that the judiciary remain independent.
Thompson says he considers the appointment of judges as the president's second most important duty, behind national security.
Thompson goes to Rock Hill at midday. He'll be in York Tuesday afternoon before concluding the day in Columbia. [source]
