  • LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Sunday he would make a strong Republican opponent to Democratic front-runner and former Arkansas first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a race for the presidency.
    Huckabee said his nomination would set up a sharp contrast between the two and energize voters toward the Republican ticket. Conservatives would be wrong to think that someone more like Clinton could draw more votes and defeat her, he said on ABC's "This Week With George Stephanopoulos."

  • Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says he's confident he can compete for the Republican nomination against actor and former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson.Thompson is expected to formally announce he's running for the White House this week.On ABC's "This Week," Huckabee said his experience leading a state and addressing key issues like health care and education give him a real advantage over Thompson.He also said his accomplishments as governor could help him compete with candidates like current Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.Huckabee said he considers her a much more formidable White House contender than most of the other Republican presidential candidates would admit.
