This video is from 1956. It is one of those old Newsreel style footage. So there are other "newsworthy" items, of the times. The important part that I want y'all to see is the beginning segment. It starts out at the Republican Convention in San Francisco, yes that San Fran. Listen to what Arthur Langley, Former Gov. of Washington state has to say about the Republican Party putting the American people first. Does it resonate with today? I think so. Also check out the "kicky" dresses worn by the "Ikettes."
Republican Convention (1956-08-20)
Did ya catch that? Yes, he said that the American people will and he hoped that they would throw the Republicans out of office if they put the party first, "like the Democrats" have then and still do. Why can't we have someone in the party be that bold and brazen now?
While Mike Huckabee has never said those exact words, he embodies that "people" spirit that the Republican party started on in 1856. Mike Huckabee is a Conservative Republican who cares about people. That's why he is a consistent pro-lifer, he cares about people. It is not a view he decided he better have to "tow the party line." That's why he is pro arts and music education. He wants to see kids have fun learning with an education that they can hold on to when they are adults. When the Katrina disaster struck, he did not sit on his hands wondering what is the party position on whether or not these people should be helped. No, his attitude in getting the Christian, Jewish and secular organizations in Arkansas to help out was that of someone who believed in the Golden Rule; "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Perhaps it's his former Pastoral background. Perhaps it's because he is a genuine caring man. Perhaps it's both. Whatever it is, Mike Huckabee is a genuine person, who is not ashamed to let his true colors shine through. Nor is he ashamed to talk openly about his faith A faith in which guides him in his everyday life.
In this technology driven world, where everything is instantaneous, people forget how history is still important. We need to look to the good and bad parts of history, so as to repeat the good and not repeat the bad.

Could use a few more folks thinking and acting like Langley, for sure.
It's got to be about people and about ideas. That's why what you're doing, what we're doing... this whole blogosphere thing... is so fantastic.
We can hold these guys accountable in ways people never dreamed even a decade ago.
Keep up the good work. Love to get your take on the Michigan primary / convention debate too and the governor / Andy Dillon's seeming refusal to support a bipartisan early primary bill...
Thoughts?

Hey Nick, thank you for your comment. Yes, I believe with the blogosphere these guys can be held accountable, on both sides.
Although I don't know if anything can ever give Dems a wake-up call. My concern is bringing our own party back to it's ideas of people, without giving handouts.
I truly forsee a new/old Republican Party shining through. We need to get back to the ideals of Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Ike, but using modern tech to help make things better.
I pretty much like Reagan, except, for the "11th Commandment." It sounds like something he may have learned from Gorbachev. I could see Commies saying, "Though shalt not say anything bad about a fellow Communist."
My feeling is, if a Republican does something wrong don't say "look at what this Dem did wrong" just own up to it. I think when a Republican does wrong he should be tarred and feathered. When a Dem does something wrong he should be tarred. It's like when a child and his friend does something wrong and says "look what Johnny did." When I was a kid I was told "I don't care what Johnny did, you are my kid." That's the attitude the party and bloggers need to have.
As for the issue of the primary/ convention debate, I have been reading your blog conglomoration, the migop.com and emails from the party. I need to figure it all out, the legalities, to write a post about it. But for right now, to summarize, I think a joint primary needs to be done. If not, the mucky-mucks on both sides will make the decisions. It needs to be up to the people. Since I support Mike Huckabee, I think a convention vote would not be good for him in Michigan. It would only be good for Rudy McRomney.
Saul is right, it would keep the candidates out of the state. They would have no reason to campaign here.
Agree wholeheartedly!
Thanks for checking out Right Michigan, too! Please, feel free to make it your home away from home... that's what it's there for. :)
