It takes place during the Civil War. Elvis' character, Clint, has married his brother's, Vance, sweetheart, KATHY, while the brother was at war. The family had thought he was killed or missing, so Clint figured that Kathy was fair game. When the brother gets back that's when the rift between the brothers happens.
I think it is super cool that the main female character's name is KATHY. The actress who played her is Debra Paget. She ended up becoming a nun in real life. Whenever she has been interviewed she will not answer that question.
