Statement on Immigration Reform

Click here to read Mike Huckabee's statement.

Conservative Movement

Here is a transcript from the Glenn Beck Radio Show, today. He is talking with a caller about how the Republican Party has changed within the past 25 years. They are talking about how there is no strong conservatives like Ronald Reagan anymore. Glenn is making a point that the two party system is more about elections than the people.
Ronald Reagan was a man who was interested in the people, who happened to be a Republican. Does that sound like someone I have been talking about for the past couple months? Who could that be? A few hints; He's from Hope, Arkansas, former governor of Arkansas... No not him. I'm talking about Mike Huckabee.

  • GLENN: Here's why. Because you had a party leadership. You had a leader in Ronald Reagan step to the plate and say, enough of this bullcrap. Here's what we are. And when you find that leader -- and maybe it's Fred Thompson, maybe it's Giuliani. I don't think it is. You know, maybe it's Mitt Romney. I don't think it is. But when you find that leader, I'll make sure that I point that leader out. But you know what?

He's mentioning that these guys aren't the leader that we need. Why won't he look at Mike Huckabee? Usually the phrase "elephant in the room" is negative. This time it is positive. Mike Huckabee is the (postitive) elephant in the room. Yet everyone manages to look past him. Even if he is standing in front of the TV and people see Fred and go "oooh!" All the people who say, "where's the conservative?" can't look at the (positive) elephant in the room. Sorry, Mike. I don't mean to call you an elephant in a bad way. How about a svelte elephant? As if Mike Huckabee has time to read this. Now who has a bigger ego than Mitt Romney?

  • CALLER: The only reason we got that leader was because of years of very hard work at the local level taking the party back by the conservatives. I mean thousands and thousands of activists are getting involved in the Republican party preparing the groundwork and the votes to get Reagan nominated.

What this caller said is exactly what we, the Huckabee supporters need to do. Let's take the Party back!

Huckabee/Griffith Ticket

I am stealing this idea from Kevin Tracy. He has a post about possible VP choices for future President Michael Dale Huckabee.
I just finished watching an episode of the "Andy Griffith Show." The episode centered around Opie going to camp, where he met some rich boys. Him and Aunt Bea went to have lunch at a mansion of one of the boys. Aunt Bea returned the favor by fixing lunch for the boy the next day. Instead of making the same type of lunch like what she usually makes, she made a fancy lunch. Andy got upset and had a talk about being yourself with Opie and Bea.
Later on he was invited to meet with the fathers of the other boys. He bought a new fancy suit. When he got there all the dads were dressed casually. He was trying to act like he had the same interests as them.
Opie ran into the room and told Andy that he was glad that he told him to be himself. Andy invited them fishing in Mayberry and that they could have a simple lunch of hot dogs.
The moral of this story was that people should be themselves.
This is the character that Mike Huckabee exudes. With a Huckabee/Griffith the American people would get two men who care about others and instill character in others. They get along with everyone. Both men are tough, but tender when they need to be. When there's a problem they both take care of it. We need someone who does not put on errs. Andy Griffith's biography on Wikipedia.
Just a thought. Don't take me to serious.

Mike Huckabee on the Today Show

Watch Mike Huckabee on the Today Show 7:05am on NBC, Thursday morning. He will talk about the '08 campaign and other issues.

Huckabee on FOX

I am having problems with the sound on FOX. My sound came on at the correct time. Allison is interviewing Mike Huckabee. He is talking about securing the border. He says we need to worry about a fence, before anything else.

He says that the war in Iraq is a 1,000 year war. And more countries need to get involved with helping the US. The jihadists are not just after the U.S. and Isreal. They are against anyone who disagrees with them, including moderate Muslims. There goes my sound again.

1950's, Ike, Civil Rights

The last Republican to really get involved with Civil Rights was probably Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower. Over at Grand Old Partisan is a few posts regarding Ike's involvement with Civil Rights and black Republicans.

Here are a few posts:

Check out Michael Zak's blog, Grand Old Partisan. Republicans need to know the history of the Civil Rights and the Republican Party's involvement.
Many bloggers and online media are talking about the fact that Mike Huckabee had almost 50% of the black vote in Arkansas. That is pretty dang good for a Republican. He didn't have to pander to anyone to get this turnout. He campaigned with truth, honesty and integrity. That is something that is not a black or white issue. It is an American issue. He appealed to all with his issues. We need a President who can cross over all age, ethnic and economic barriers. Mike Huckabee is the man for that.
If ya recall, Mike Huckabee is an ordained pastor. He has seen people of all walks of life. And he respects everyone, regardless of who they are. We need another leader like Ike. That is Mike Huckabee.

Things that are Goin in a Redneck Girl's Musical Mind

I am currently listening to my favorite singer, Brian Setzer. The CD? Ignition! This CD is more inspired by the sounds of Eddie Cochran. It's got a retro, in your face attitude. Damn, Brian Setzer is HOT! I wish there was more rock music available that has that pure unadulterated sound of the rock pioneers such as Elvis, Buddy Holly, J.P. "Big Bopper" Richardson, Eddie Cochran, too numerous to mention.
I am certain I was born in the wrong decade. I love listening to fifties music, collect anything from the fifties, cook the same style of food. I even save the bacon grease, use a stove-top percolator and grind the beans by hand.

My sewing machine? A Domestic Model 253 Deluxe. This was my grandma's from 1950. In 57 years, it has only had a tune-up once. That was after my grandma gave it to me. It had been sitting around for a few years not being used, so it needed one. I just need to make sure I keep it oiled properly. My grandma used to make Barbie dresses out of left over material from her's and her kid's dresses on this machine. I even still have an apron she made on that same sewing machine. I will add a pic of my sewing machine sometime.
I actually found Elvis fabric. I used it to make stockings and ornaments for my dad, brother and grandpa for Christmas. I even bought enough fabric to make an apron. I will definitely show a pic of that when I finish. Oh, ya gotta see the hot pink fuzzy leopard print chair cover I made for my sewing room.
Whatever happened to American ingenuity? Everything used to last longer and be of better quality; appliances, fabric, toys, cars, etc. Now I'm sounding like my grandparents.
My early 80's GE washing machine just gave out on me last week. The repair man told me not to replace it with another GE. He said they have crappy quality and your lucky if they can last a full decade. He told me to get a Whirlpool. Even still, the longest they last is 15 years. He was right, last time I had him come to my house, four years ago, to work on it he said I had another 3 years left on it. Well I guess that machine told him. It lasted another year. I still have my mom's harvest gold 1970's dryer, and it's still working.

Back to music. My favorite song on the Brian Setzer Ignition! CD is "Malaguena." This is an old Spanish acoustic guitar song. It is strictly instrumental. Brian Setzer's version is Electric guitar. It is very emotional, with many ups and downs, fast and slow. He gives it a fifties sound, while staying true to the music.

Sometimes I just like to make a martini, kick back and listen to Frank Sinatra. Sometimes a girl just needs to reflect on things and be taken back to a different simpler more kinder time.

Oh, before I forget. Go over to Capitol Offense's My Space page and vote for a song you would like to hear them play. You can vote as many times as you would like. So vote for "Jailhouse Rock" as much as possible. Help out Elvis. Show how much you love him. Elvis is still HOT! I have heard Capitol Offense on YouTube. They are pretty good.

Well, keep on rockin chicks and cool cat daddy-0s. Don't be a square.

Mike Huckabee on Fox and Friends!

Hey, Night Owls! Mike Huckabee will be on FOX and Friends at 6:15 EST this morning. I didn't wake up 'til 11pm, so I didn't get the email from the campaign notifying me until after midnight, so I'm letting ya know as soon as I recieved the email. Continue to stay awake or take a nappy-poo, don't forget to set your alarm. Drink lotsa coffee if you have to. Mike Huckabee on FOX and Friends, this will be awesome. I love both. Steve Doocey is such a cutey. I know, he is married. Ain't nothing wrong with looking ;).

Report from H@^^!

I am watching Chris Mathews. Think that's bad? Guess who his guest is? "Mann" Coulter. I am not watching it per say, as it's just background noise while I'm on my computer. The two of them are arguing. I will say I was quite surprised. I thought the episode would be broadcast from a cheap motel and the two would be pillow-talking. Like I said, I'm not paying too much attention. She said military personnel love to listen to "Ann and Rush." She will vote for "any nincompoop that the Republican Party puts out in the general election." I can't look directly into the TV screen, or watching her Adams Apple bob up and down will make me throw up my chocolate mouse whipped Yoplait yogurt. All her supporters are impressionable college kids. There is an eight year old girl in the background. Some of them are holding up McCain signs. Figures, they both are grumpy and hate-filled. Well, I'm off to pray to the porcelain god.

Ooh this is good, Elizabeth Edwards is on the phone. I will hold "it" back. This is too good to miss. Elizabeth is asking politely for her to stop personal attacks. I don't like John Edwards, but I will say that Mrs. Edwards is at least polite. Ann is acting like a twit and laughing at Elizabeth. If Elvis were alive today he would go through tons of shot out TVs. Now the subject of chubby legs, Hillary Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. I wish I could slap Miss Anorexia. Why is she making defend Democrat chicks? Thanks, "Mann." (said in snotty smart-ass voice)

What's up with this commercial for AT&T Broadband commercial? They are making a pun on Viagra commercials. They are talking about "connectile dysfunction." This dude is acting embarrassed while on his computer. This chick walks up to the dude. "Your not the first guy this has happened to." He gets broadband and this chick is sitting next to him and they make google eyes at each other. I hate when FOX News has the actual commercials for Viagra and Cialis. I guess men who watch mainstream media have "problems."

She says Republican Party is not the party of corporate America. This is the first time she's heard of it. She says Republicans are the party of the little man. It was Ann, until you and Rush came along. Now you have opened the door for Ebeneezer Scrooge.
Some dude in the audience is holding a sign that says "Marry me Ann." I guess some of these Viagra popping men like to be "whipped."
Now she called Monica Lewinsky a chubby Jew. Why "Mann?". Why do you make me defend....?
She just said of Christoper Hitchens The Creator is planning his destruction, smiling. She says "that makes me laugh." Christopher Hitchens wrote a book called, God is not Great.
She says Obama goes to a crazy church. Why "Mann?". Stop making me defend!!!! Why won't she say Mitty-poo goes to crazy church? Oh yeah, she's probably "sealed" to him and will be making babies with him on his planet he'll go to when he dies. But I don't think "Hipless" can have babies.

Finally, it's over!!! I kept the bile down all this time.
I hear the bathroom calling.

Blogger Call Part 1

Today I participated in another Mike Huckabee blogger call. In on the call was James Robinson, who has a Christian ministry since the 1060's in Texas.* Also in on the call was Micheal Ferris from the Home School Defense Association.
UPDATE: Ha, ha! Usually when I realize I made a mistake on my writing I usually delete and correct, but this was too funny to delete. I meant 1960's not 1060's. Wow that would make both these guys really old. I hope ya can laugh with me rather than at me.

I asked kind of a dorky question of both Mr. Huckabee and Mr. Ferris. I was nervous and my question was last so I tried to hurry when I asked. My question was about bringing more extensive home-ec curriculums back into schools. I asked this question because I have heard from ladies from church, who volunteer at the food bank, when people are given staples such as flour, rice and pasta the recipients ask, "What I am supposed to do with this."
I asked them if schools should bring back more extensive home-ec curriculms. Any woman over the age of thirty will tell you that home-ec is more than making meat loaf and a pretty apron. It also teaches how to live a life in the adult world, after graduating. My high school actually had a home-ec department. There were separate classes for sewing, food and life skills. In sewing we were taught how to use the most of fabrics, pick the best fabric for the value. Food class taught the basics of ingredients and spices and how to use best what's already in your cupboard. Life skills was just that. We learned how to get along with our peers, family, work relations, dating and future spouses. All three classes teach about family budgets.
Since both of them are men they probably weren't sure how to answer the question. I kind of feel bad about putting them both on the spot. Mr. Ferris' answer was rather quick, but made sense. He said that in the home schooling it's not part of a curriculm, but part of encouraging family values. He then asked Mr. Huckabee to answer. He said he might be able to answer the question better.
Mike Huckabee said, "I was afraid of that." His answer was more on the life skills end of the spectrum. He said that in our modern culture it's more caught than taught. There should be rules in the home. When he was governor of Arkansas the school system had classes teaching the principles of character. It was not religious based. The classes taught about manners. The kids were taught about basic life skills such as answering the phone, introducing themselves to new people, introducing friends and family to each other and using eye contact. They were also taught how to deal with problems. He said that they were taught about structures in life.
I am sorry if this sounds boring my heart was in my throat when I asked the question so my notes were rather sloppy on this. Both gentlemen probably wished they had gotten a different question for the last question. The recording will be up on the explorehuckabee website, so you can listen in on his answers.
I will be adding more from this call in a few more other posts.

Part 1 Chapter 5 Yellow Dogs Bite

Well, you've been waiting all week for this. I finally have the book report for Chapter 5 done! Whew! If you are new to this blog or missed previous book reports please read Intro,
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, before continuing to read.

So now it is time to join me on the front porch, have a cup of sweet tea, in fact take some banana pudding. Bring your own guitar or grab Stella and guitar pick while a write this.

The premise of this chapter is about the Democrat/Republican rivalry that goes on in Arkansas. And how Mike Huckabee overcame that through his political career. As you recall from my previous blogs and if you have read his biography, that he was only the third Republican to be elected Governor of Arkansas since reconstruction.

Mike Huckabee says that it is difficult for a Republican to run for public office in Arkansas. When he ran in the 1992 U.S. Senate race at dinners he was given the worst seat and ignored by the event organizers. He was always at the end of the line in parades.
During this time the Clinton presidential race dominated all the news in Arkansas. State and National media was covering Bill Clinton's campaign. This was the first time that anyone from Arkansas had been a nominee for a major political party in a presidential race. Thus the Senate race didn't get much national coverage.
Dick Morris had been Mike's pollster. How loyal were Mike's supporters? This is what Mr. Morris said to him, "Your voters would swim the Mississippi at flood stage to get to the ballot on election day." They did not believe anything negative that was printed about Mike Huckabee. They knew what he stood for and they stood for the same ideals. If you don't recall from previous he lost.
As stated in my previous reports, after Bill Clinton became President Jim Guy Tucker, Lieutenant Governor at the time, elevated to Governor. Thus there was a need to hold a special election for a new Lieutenant Governor, a spot vacated by Tucker. Mike figured that since he had had a dedicated staff from his Senate race, he would run for this position. He knew that this would be an uphill battle.
Mike knew that many Arkansans would choose to vote for the Yellow Dog Democrat before they voted for a Republican.* The newspapers did not cover him or his campaign. When he would be at parades or events middle age women would make obscene gestures and yell at him.

Mike points to three factors in his victory.

  1. Learned through experience in the Senate race.
  2. He had a message of honesty and integrity.
  3. Took opponents by surprise
After Mike finally got into his office, there was no furniture. See Chapter 3 When riding in the elevators in the capitol people would get off, because they didn't want to ride in the elevator. One time he attended a Summer festival where he was told to sit anywhere, this was while he was the Lieutenant Governor.
There were other politicians at this event. After they took their turns speaking one of the announcers mentioned, "We do have other members here in our audience, including a Republican Mike Huckabee." They didn't even mention that he was the sitting Lieutenant Governor. Many people were upset and embarrassed that their Democrat party would behave that way.
Governor Tucker and Lieutenant Governor Huckabee got along better than Governor Clinton and Lieutenant Governor Tucker got along. The rivalry between Clinton and Tucker went back to 1978. In 1982 Clinton and Tucker were planning on running against each other for Governor. In 1990, thinking Clinton would not run again, Tucker thought he would give it a try to run for Governor. Bill Clinton had called a press conference. Everyone, including Hillary Clinton, thought he would make an announcement not to run for re-election. To every one's surprise, Bill Clinton said "I'm going to run one more time." Sometime after that Dick Morris told Mike that Clinton's plan was to say he would not run again.
After the 1990 election, Clinton was not around much. He was already planning on running for President. Tucker was left to take care of business. He was ticked off at Clinton. Clinton never gave him the vital details to be able to properly take care of things. Clinton also left the state with a huge financial mess.
Tucker and Huckabee got along fine, until 1995. That was when the indictment for Tucker's involvement in Whitewater was handed down. Tucker wanted to look like a tough leader, before going into court.

Three things that Tucker tried doing.
  1. Change of public school funding.
  2. Highway construction program.
  3. Rewrite of state constitution.

For the school districts Tucker wanted to consolidate 311 districts into 35 super districts, adding country schools in with the city schools. Mike said this was a bad idea, since the country schools were doing better than the city schools. In Cabot, Arkansas Tucker was booed off the stage. His idea was unpopular.
In order to get the highway bill passed Tucker had to make promises to the state senators. Mike was told that the senators thought it was a bad idea, but they voted for it to get the things promised to them.
Mike was told that for the constitution convention he and other Republicans would be included in on the plans. When Mike was to speak at a Methodist Church, Tucker called him and told him the inclusive deal was off for the Republicans. Mike alludes this to the fact that Tucker caved into political pressure from the Democrats. This was also about the same time that Mike decided to run for US Senate again. This would be the first time in 18 years that there would be an open seat for Senate.
In December of 1995 the constitution convention failed 80% to 20%. The highway bill failed 87% to 13%. Mike had opposed this also. Due to the fact that it was going to cost too much money. Also, the Republican Party spent $200,000 for him to oppose it on TV.
After these failures, Jim Guy blamed Mike for being the reason these bills failed. Mike says Tucker just got egotistical. He wanted to look cavalier before he went into court. He looked anything but. Political cartoonists portrayed Tucker as a lame duck. After all this the only time the two ever saw each other was for two photo ops.

  • Changing Color Heart Leaders have the responsibility to think and to act in the context of their positions. Having been awarded their offices by voters, elected officials in particular must consider the effect their actions will have on others. In trying to pursue his interests instead of those of his constituents, Governor Tucker found that his own people turned against him. Even yellow Democrats had had enough. Changing Color Heart
* Yellow Dog Democrat: A cowardly despicable person. I admit it, I did have to look this one up.

In my attempt to butcher the Beverly Hillbillies closing credits, written by Paul Henning and sung by Jerry Scroggins:

  • Now it's time to say goodbye and read the next chapter
  • I would like to thank you folks for kindly reading this
  • You're all invited back again to this blog
  • To have a heaping helping of this hospitality
  • (Hillbilly that is. Set a spell. Take your shoes off. Y'all come back now, ya hear?)
I will try harder to get these book reports out faster. I will be honest, this one took a while because it was mostly about specific incidents about Jim Guy Tucker and Arkansas politics. I wanted the report to be relevant to Mike's point about character without getting too far off track.
The problem with doing a book report on a book written by Mike Huckabee is that he speaks so eloquently that I am afraid that I will either butcher his words and/or not relay the message to y'all correctly.
I have already started my notes on Chapter 6. I will be putting Chapter 6 and 7 together, since they match so closely.

Another Great Article from Baptist Press

I was reading Baptist Press today. Originally, I was just planning on taking a blogging break and just read the news and other blogs. But this article made me wanna call it to y'alls attention. As you recall I need a second job. And I am going through financial setbacks.
I was reading this article Live in The Sunshine.

  • EL CAJON, Calif. (BP)--Even when we don't understand our present circumstances, we can walk in the light. As the song says, "Farther along we'll know all about it. Farther along we'll understand why. Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine. We'll understand it all by and by." That's the whole lesson of the Book of Job -- trust Him! more...

The premise of this article is that God is always watching over you and no matter what, he is always in your life. Even when every thing's going wrong with God on your side you can walk in the sunshine. I feel better knowing that God will watch over me as I try to get a second job and pay my bills. Regardless of your current circumstances, good or bad please read this article.

I have few more blogs about some articles I read in Baptist Press. I need to go back to sleep I woke up in the middle of my sleep schedule, now I'm sleepy again.

Check This Out!

New polls from Texas. Mike Huckabee is gaining in the polls. I was just quickly checking in. I work third shift, so it is almost my bedtime.

State Blogs

Some good state blogs are from Arkansas GOP Blog and Michigan GOP Blog. The Arkansas blog is about Arkansas issues and national issues. The Michigan blog is mostly about Michigan issues. There are a few posts about national issues. Check both of them out, they're great! On each one agree with what's being said about 89% to 99% of the time. And my regular readers know that I don't agree with other Republicans just to follow the party line. I hate to admit it, but I like the Arkansas blog better than the Michigan one. If you think your state party has a decent blog, let me know and I will direct readers to it.

Mike Huckabee Wants to be Your Friend on MySpace

Go to MySpace and request Mike Huckabee, Capitol Offense and Janet Huckabee to be your friend. Also look for state based pages "for Huckabee" and request them as your friend. Capitol Offense needs to get 1,000 friends to be able to play at the White House.
If you don't have a MySpace account get one. Before I started blogging and supporting Mike Huckabee I thought of My Space as being for teenagers and perverts from Dateline NBC exposes. But there are older people, like me. If your state is not represented in a "for Huckabee" page make one. If there is one for your state but you live in a big city, make a special one for your city. I started a page for the Upper Peninsula for Mike Huckabee.
Some other ideas for "for Huckabee" state pages would be to add Republican State and US Senators and Congressmen as friends. Add your state chairpersons, other state party reps, district chairpersons, county chairpersons and whoever else. My thought on that would be when they accept your friend request their other friends will see the "for Huckabee" state page and get curious. Once these people find out about Mike they can't help but "Like Mike."

Pray for Me and Wish Me Luck

I hate to whine about my personal life, but I need to get a second job. I will be looking tomorrow. I have found quite a few "Help Wanted" ads in the paper. The antique store I used to work for in the Summer isn't going to open up this year. The owner is an older lady and isn't able run it.
I don't get this. In the state of Michigan unemployment is 7.1%. The highest unemployment rate in the country. Yet, in the Summer, resort towns hire Jamaicans and Europeans to work at their hotels and restaurants. When my county held a "pizza and politics" party one of our Republican State Senators spoke.
I asked him about this. Because I had also heard an urban legend in town that these foreign workers collect American unemployment during the winter. He told me that it wasn't true and the reason there is so many foreign workers is that they're doing the job that Michigan citizens don't want do. Don't or won't? That's crazy. In the UP there are tons of people who are on Government assistance. Let's get these people working first, then worry about the Jamaicans.
I used to work at a hotel that got bought by a fancy pants Republican from Charlevoix, Michigan. That's a richy-rich town in Michigan. It's also where John Ramsey, father of Jon Benet Ramsey, lives. Yeah, he did run on the Republican ticket in Charlevoix County. He lost. Wonder why? He said that no one knew he was. Yeah, they don't have tabloids in Charlevoix, OK.
Back to Mr. Fancy Pants. After he bought the hotel he hired Jamaicans and Europeans. No one even told me that the hotel was being sold. Since this was my part time job I would have to call in to see if I had to work. Every time I called to see if I was on the schedule they would give me the run around. Finally, a couple months later I got a call from the new people running it to see if I would want to work. They wanted me to work that night. They changed everything around and didn't want to re-train me. I just had to figure everything out.
I don't understand how these hotel owners think that hiring foreigners to answer the phone is helping them. On the surface they think they are saving money. But in reality, they are losing money, because when people call to make reservations nobody can understand nobody. So the potential guests call another hotel to make reservations. Now think about it. If every hotel in my town were to hire foreigners no one would stay in the town. They would choose another town to visit.
Now onto my thoughts about housekeeping. I have worked in housekeeping with Jamaicans and Europeans. They do everything half-assed. The rooms aren't as nice as those cleaned by locals. There are two reasons for this. One is that this is not their community, so they don't have as much invested. They will be going back to their home countries in the fall. The other is that the hotel owners want them punched in and out ASAP. I am not dissing on people who are not
Americans, just it's the circumstances. I am sure they do great work in their home countries.
Well enough of my blabbering. I just got a bank statement, balanced my check book and got utility bills at all the same time. I just hope I have gas in my house tomorrow. It wouldn't be so bad if my water heater was electric, but I do not want to take cold showers. Please do not think I am a flaming liberal for complaining. I am eligible for food assistance and other utility credits, but I refuse to take advantage of the tax payers.

I've Got a Crush on McCain!

I was setting down to work on my Chapter 5 book report. I was watching Glenn Beck and he was interviewing the "Obama stalker girl." He showed a video that he made called "I've got a crush on McCain." It is sung by a senior citizen. The theme is the same as the "Crush on Obama" song. The words are just changed. She's trying to talk to him on the phone and leaves messages for him. One line is "I walk with a cane you've got Cain in your name." I can't remember all of it. Something about he's who she'll vote for in 2008, if she's still alive. I don't know if there is video for it available on the Internet, but I will try to find it. If you are reading this before 9pm or 12 am you can watch it again on CNN Headline News Channel. It is absolutely hilarious. Now I got that freakin Obama song in my head. I can't stop singing it. Ugh!

Mike Huckabee Applauds President Bush's Veto

NEWS RELEASE

Mike Huckabee Applauds Presidential Veto of Federally-Funded Embryonic Stem Cell Research Legislation

Little Rock , Ark – Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) said Wednesday that he applauds a veto by President George W. Bush of legislation to loosen restrictions on federally-funded embryonic stem cell research.

“Without the President’s veto, this controversial legislation, which is wrong on moral grounds and based on inconclusive scientific research, would have become law. I commend the President for his strong stand in support of life,” said Huckabee.

Huckabee said he also supports an executive order by President Bush to direct the Health and Human Services Department to promote additional research into cells that might regenerate into different types of cells that could potentially be used to battle human disease.

“Vital scientific research can and is being conducted without the destruction of life,” said Huckabee.

Just Checking In!

My gramma is here visiting from Flint area, so I thought I would check in quickly. We are watching Glenn Beck.

Did you hear the news? Mike Huckabee pulled ahead of John "Mr. Grouchy Pants" McCain in the New Mason Dixon Poll in Iowa.

Romney 25%
Undecided at 21%
Thompson at 17%
Giuliani at 15%
Huckabee at 7%
McCain and Brownback at 6% each

On the explorehuckabee blog page the names are in bold, but I put Undecided in bold. That large gap shows there is still room for Mike to move up in the publics minds.

Home School Association Endorses Huckabee, click here.

I am making sure that Gramma will be driving away with a Mike Huckabee sticker on her car. I just have to keep reminding her that his name is "Huckabee", not "Hucklebee." Don't get me wrong, I love gramma. I will probably be worse when I am in my 80's.

Also, today is Juneteenth. To learn more click on Grand Old Partisan

Now, we will be watching Bill O'Reilly. I will update y'all tomorrow.

First Photo in the Mike Huckabee Bumper Sticker Photo Share

Lisa from "Massachussetts for Mike Huckabee"
sent me a photo of her 1991 Toyota Corolla with two, count 'em-two, Mike Huckabee bumper stickers. Way to go Lisa! There's no such thing as showing too much support for the next President of the United States.

If you would like to learn more about obtaining bumperstickers and sending pictures of your car with bumperstickers, go to this post.

Maybe there could even be a contest for categories. Like junkiest, fanciest, most tricked out, etc. Any suggestions? Send in your photos to gypzychik@yahoo.com, cheesecake and beefcake photos are also welcome. I should probably add rules on the cheesecake/beefcake pics. You must be posing with your car and pg rated only.

I will soon be adding a pic of my 1993 Grand Am with all my Huckabee and Republican bumperstickers.

Part 1 Chapter 4 Is God a Democrat?

It is now time to sit and have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, for the next installment of this book report. Tell ya what, let's go out on the front porch and have a cup of sweet tea. If ya forgot your guitar grab "Stella" and guitar pick on the front porch as I read this book report.* It is just too dang hot to sit in front of the fireplace with a hot beverage.

If you are new to this blog or missed previous book reports go to Intro, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3 and read first.

I have decided to install a new feature to me book reports. "I Heart Huckabee." Don't worry, I'm not the "Obama stalker girl." Nor will I give a link to that nasty asty video. What I will do is this, whenever there was something Mike Huckabee wrote in his book Character Makes a Difference that I felt like pointing to and saying I love that, that is awesome, I will add this symbol Changing Color Heart to the beginning and end of the statement.

Well, on with the book report. No, the title of this post is not a typo. That is the actual title Mike chose for Chapter 4. You may be wondering why a former Baptist Preacher, turned Republican politician would choose such a title. Read on and you will figure it out.

The premise of this chapter is about Mike Huckabee went from a church career to a political career and how there are some similarities in the two. Shocking, huh? That's what I thought, too. If you stayed awake through all that, let's get on with the book report.

As a teenager Mike was more interested in politics than pastoring. He did not see himself in the traditional pulpit ministry of pastoring. He wanted to fulfil a ministry in communications. His pastoring experience included six years at Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. And another six years at Beech Street Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas.

In 1980 He was invited to be a speaker at Immanuel Baptist. He eventually worked his way up to being full time pastoring. His time in Pine Bluff was rather unconventional. The church was into advertising, a radio program called "Positive Attitudes", TV stations in Pine Bluff and Texarkana. The TV stations broadcast both religious and local isssues.

In 1989 he was elected president of the Arkansas State Baptist Convention. He was the youngest person to hold this position. At this there was quite a bit of church politics. Mike credits the church politics for paving his way into governmental politics. There was quite a bit of media attention on the church politics.

Mike became interested in Republican politics when he was in high school. He had gotten involved with Boys State, a program designed to help young men in high school to become civic minded. When he was a pastor he did not get involved with party politics. He would speak and pray at political dinners and meetings, but that was as far as he took it.

In 1991 a friend he had met through Boys State encouraged him to run in the US Senate. At this time he was getting frustrated, not angry or bitter, with the way things were going in church. During his early years of ministry he felt that the congregation was looking for a "captain of warship leading God's warship into battle to change the world." He had become convinced that they wanted him to be captain of the Love Boat. While Mike was concerned with social issues such as marriages, teen drug problems and teen pregnancies, they were more concerned with menus, colors of softball jerseys, coffee pots, etc.

Mike was at a crossroads, wondering what to do. He calls Janet his best friend.** One night the two of them took a long walk around the neighborhood to talk about what he should do. That night he made a decision to run for Senate. The following Sunday he made the announcement to the congregation.

Senator Dale Bumpers was up for re-election. Mike knew it be difficult for a Republican to be running against an incumbent Democrat, but he was willing to give it a try anyways. At the time the Arkansas view of Republicans was that they were the wealthy and privileged few. Arkansans viewed Democrats as the party of the working man.

Mike realized that even when the parishioners get upset with the pastor, they don't go public with their grievances. After he announced candidacy, he realized, that he was fair game in regards to public criticism. Through this process friendships were unraveled. Many times he would be scheduled to speak at Southern Baptist Churches to speak. Just the week before the scheduled speaking engagements the pastor would call him and cancel the event. These were same churches that he would speak at when he was president of the ABSC. In the book Mike notes four similarities between pastors and politicians, other than (in his words) a closet full of dark suits. Those things are;

  1. The ability to communicate a message effectively.
  2. The ability to motivate volunteers
  3. A clear understanding of the media
  4. The ability to raise money

He also talks about good stewardship in both church and government. He realizes that pastors and elected officials should use other peoples money wisely. When he was a pastor he wanted to honestly be able to tell the widows who tithed with their Social Security checks that the money was spent wisely. Pastors and politicians need the ability to persuade people without holding a hammer over their heads. Neither pastors nor politicians can please everyone. Both pastors and politicians are living in "public fishbowls." Outside of their personal quarters their lives are on display for all to see.

Changing Color Heart I think there is difference between role-playing and role-living. Role-playing is a sham; role-living is being comfortable with who you are anytime an observe walks up to the fishbowl for a look. Changing Color Heart

Changing Color Heart Let me be clear. The Republican Party is not "God's party" either. Changing Color Heart God doesn't join our organizations. He asks us to join his. Changing Color Heart Political parties are simply vehicles to help us get to the place of changing public policy, and some vehicles drive better than others because of their features. Changing Color Heart

* Stella is the name of my guitar.

**While I usually say, "eww yuck, how phony" whenever politicians start talking about their wives and kids. With Mike and Janet Huckabee I think they truly love and care about each other without pandering to the public's sensibilities.

In my attempt to butcher the Beverly Hillbillies closing credits, written by Paul Henning and sung by Jerry Scroggins:

Shout out to Arkansas Genealogists

Charles and Stella Eaker Wells My grandparents on their wedding day in Germany
in 1920 in 1948

As I have said in a previous post my grandfather was a cotton farmer in Arkansas with an Eighth Grade education. He came up to Flint to work for General Motors.

since Mike Huckabee is from Arkansas and many of his supporters are from Arkansas I thought I would share who my Southern ancestors are, in case I have any "cousins" out there. If anyone in Arkansas is working on genealogy please contact me at gypzychik@yahoo.com.

Since my grandfather is still alive, I will not give his name over the Internet. His parents were Charles and Stella Eaker Wells. Charles was from Illinois. Stella was born in Union Arkansas in 1905. Stella's parents were Arnold Lee and Neety C. Mitchell Eaker. I don't know anything about the Mitchells. Arnold Lee was born in Arkansas. His parents were Jonas and Charity Jane Thomason Eaker. Jonas was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, lived in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Castor, Stoddard county, Missouri; Union, Greene County Arkansas. His first wife, in Castor Missouri was Nancy. Charity Jane was born in Tennessee; lived in Southern Division, Marshall County, Mississippi; Union, Greene County Arkansas.
I have noticed that on the post Civil War Census' in Ark. many of the adults were from other states and their kids were the first in the family to be born in Ark. Does anyone know why that is? If you know anything about any of these families please let me know. Or if you want to help. I can not afford to hire a pro. I am trying to upload pics of family but it seems to be slow. I will add pics later.

Nice Memorial Site About Ruth Graham

Thank you to Bill Bill Reichart for his comment and link to a memorial website set-up by the Graham family. Check out this link about Ruth Bell Graham. Definitely take time to see the pictures of her and Billy Graham throughout the years. There are many beautiful quotes by her. She showed that a woman could be beautiful inside and out no matter what age.

Again, Thank You Bill.

Ruth Bell Graham dies at 87
By Staff

MONTREAT, N.C. (BP)--Ruth Bell Graham, wife of evangelist Billy Graham, died at 5:05 EST June 14, surrounded by her husband and five children at her Montreat, N.C., home. She was 87."Ruth was my life partner, and we were called by God as a team," Billy Graham said in a statement after her death. "No one else could have borne the load that she carried. She was a vital and integral part of our ministry, and my work through the years would have been impossible without her encouragement and support."I am so grateful to the Lord that He gave me Ruth, and especially for these last few years we've had in the mountains together," Graham added. "We've rekindled the romance of our youth, and my love for her continued to grow deeper every day. I will miss her terribly, and look forward even more to the day I can join her in heaven."For several weeks, Graham had been confined to bed as she suffered from degenerative osteoarthritis of the back and neck, and two weeks ago she was diagnosed with pneumonia and seemed to be recovering, A. Larry Ross, a spokesman for the Graham family, told Baptist Press. But on the morning of June 13 she fell into a coma.At the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in San Antonio that day, SBC President Frank Page led messengers in a time of prayer for Graham, whom he called a "dear saint of God."Ross said Graham was alert on Sunday, June 10, to celebrate her birthday and was encouraged by visits from family members.Billy Graham released a statement June 13 announcing the plans he and Ruth had settled on for their burial."Earlier this spring, after much prayer and discussion, Ruth and I made the decision to be buried beside each other at the Billy Graham Library in my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina," Graham said. "We have held this decision privately and only decided to announce it now that she is close to going home to heaven."Graham called Ruth his soul mate and best friend, saying he cannot imagine living a single day without her by his side."I am more in love with her today than when we first met over 65 years ago as students at Wheaton College," he said. The worldwide evangelist said he and Ruth appreciated the prayers and letters of encouragement they had received."Our entire family has been home in recent days and it has meant so much to have them at our side during this time," Graham said in the June 13 statement. "We love each one of them dearly and thank God for them."Graham, 88, suffers from fluid on the brain, prostate cancer, Parkinson's disease and age-related macular degeneration. The Billy Graham Library was dedicated in his honor May 31 with three former U.S. presidents in attendance, and it opened to the public June 5.The Grahams married in 1943 and they have 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren in addition to their five children. Arrangements for a private funeral are pending.--30--Compiled by Erin Roach.

From Huckabee Campaign

Little Rock, AR – Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) made the following statement today in response to news about Ruth Graham, who died Thursday at her home at Little Piney Cove, North Carolina .

“Ruth Graham was not only the faithful life partner to modern Christianity's icon, Billy Graham, but she was, in her own right, the epitome of grace, faith, and steadfastness. People of all faiths can certainly appreciate this truly remarkable Christian lady. I extend my deepest condolences to the Graham family who are suffering from her loss,” said Huckabee.

Articles and blog Update

Speculation about Mike Huckabee as Veep? That's what some are saying. Hey, it's better than what a friend said in late March, that Huckabee would be leaving the race early. What is Mike's response to talk of possible Veep position?
Check out the first Mike Huckabee blog page, from before Mike even had a website. Mike Huckabee President 2008. There are quite a few new articles.
Also, check out this article. I found the link through Mike Huckabee President 2008.

More updates and links coming soon.

More Updates: Check out this interview from Pew Forum and this commentary from The Moderate Voice. A lot of questions & answers were covered in the interview. The commentary from the Moderate Voice is absolutely wonderful! Check both out!
More Updates: Ice cream and politics: Blue Bunny parlor on the political map Candidates have ice cream with Iowa families.
Two say they will be in straw poll Mike Huckabee and other candidates plan to participate in Iowa Straw Poll, despite the fact that Rudy Giuliani and John McCain will not.
Do positions on evolution really matter in 2008 race? John McCain answers whether or not he believes in evolution. He answers yes and no. The article goes on to call Mike Huckabee, Sam Brownback and Tom Tancredo, who believe in creation, wannabes. This is what I am getting sick of. When the media calls them wannabes then the uninformed public believes that's what they are. I guess if you get fed nothing but government cheese and powdered milk you don't know any better.

I have finished reading Chapter 4 of Character Makes a Difference and am working on a new book report.

Part 1 Chapter 3 The People Rule

Regnat Populus

"The People Rule"
(Arkansas State Motto)

Time to pull up a chair. Grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, in fact, take a piece of banana pudding. I have finished Chapter 3. It was a rather short, yet another great chapter. The thing with doing a book report on a Mike Huckabee written book is that it's hard not to just want to copy each and every one of his wonderful words. If you are new to this blog or missed previous book reports, first go to Intro , Chapter 1 or Chapter 2

The premise of Chapter 3, is about the power is in the hands of the people and that elected officials are not be all-end all. Rather they are the employees of the people, no matter how rich or poor.

I shall elaborate. Mike Huckabee says that his first day as governor of Arkansas, was better than his first day as lieutenant governor. Upon his first day as Lieutenant governor in 1993, the door to his office was nailed shut from the inside. When he questioned anyone they told him that the room was going to be used for the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission. No one would give him a straight answer. He was unable to enter his office for 59 days. John fund from The Wall Street Journal flew all the way from New York to see this for himself. It even took Mike four months to get personalised letterhead for his stationary. He had to pay for it himself.
On his first day as Governor, staff from the previous administration had not send resumes. They were told that it would be pointless, because they would all be fired anyways. Mike and his people told them all to submit resumes and they would be given fair consideration. With one or two exceptions, Jim Guy Tucker refused to discuss transition process, within the time frame of May 28 and July 15. This is normally done when one governor is making plans of departure to make room for the next governor.
When he started his new position, filing cabinets in the government offices were found empty. Paper and computer records had been destroyed.
He received a letter of public apology from Jim Guy Tucker.
He made a conscience effort to rebuild morality in the Governor's Office. He banned swearing. He has no patience for sexually inappropriate comments.* This was not because he is a self righteous prude, but because he feels it kills morality and productivity. He believes in the "Golden Rule", Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
He promised not to yell at any of his staff if they made mistakes. This was something they were not used to. His philosophy is that one who feels that they have to announce they are in charge, they really aren't in charge. He wanted people to do a decent job, not because they felt they had to, but because they wanted to.
He wanted to get to know all those who worked in the capitol. He would walk around and introduce himself. He looked at family pics of his staff. He truly wanted to get to know them. This transition took mere hours to days. Previous and new staff worked equally side by side. He treated everyone equally.
He wanted his staff and the citizens of Arkansas to know he was not " The Boss." Everyone on his staff were to work as a team. There was a chain of command, but he also believed that every job and position was important. Behind his secretary's desk was picture that was titled, "The Boss."

I want to share the whole paragraph from the book.

  • One week it might be a girl scout troop from Arkedelphia; the next week it might be a teacher from Mount Ida; the next week a retired farmer from West Memphis. These were the people we had pledged to serve.** All of us passed this picture frame several times a day. It was and effective reminder of our ultimate place in the chain of command.
He showed respect to all of the citizens who came to his office. Even those who showed up in tattered clothes and smelling bad were respected by Mike Huckabee. He has no tolerance for those who look down on others. Even when people who have less money, less adequate housing or poor job skills - those in state government are their employees.

Now I want to share the inspiring words from the last paragraph.

  • Servant leadership is the highest form of leadership. It's not the same as doormat leadership. To see your role as servant leader is the ultimate model of Biblical leadership. I expected our employees to treat others the way they wanted to be treated, to understand that their job was not to be served but to serve--that they were never to be rude. The people out there who called, wrote, or visited were not our problem, irritation or interruption; they were our job. Our challenge was not to get those people out of the way so that we could do our work; our work was to help those people. Those people are citizens are people of the state, they are our bosses.
  • Regnat Populus

* My Christian woman thought on this. Some so-called conservatives want to say that because the PC crowd says lewd, sexual comments or come-ons, or whatever is disrespectful it is OK. Hey, they don't want to look PC. It has nothing to do with PC or un-PC. It is good Christian common sense. To me, it looks like Mike Huckabee takes a Christian approach to the situation.

**This is one sentence that really got to me. Not only does he say we instead of I, he also mentions pledging to serve the people. We need someone who pledges to serve the people. Not someone who pledges to serve himself (or his cult).

In my attempt to butcher the Beverly Hillbillies closing credits, written by Paul Henning and sung by Jerry Scroggins:
