Michigan Might be Getting Another Debate

There just may be another Republican Debate in Michigan. There was already a Republican Debate in Dearborn, Michigan on Oct. 9. I thought this was the best, most lively and energetic Republican Debate. But then again I could be biased, being from Michigan and all. This possible debate, if it happens would take place at the auto show in Detroit, Michigan. That would be freakin awesome. Here is some of the article in The Daily Press, of Escanaba, Michigan. • GOP leader proposes debate at auto show
• WASHINGTON (AP) — Michigan Republicans are hoping to stage a presidential debate at the Detroit auto show two days before the Michigan primary featuring the top three GOP finishers from the New Hampshire primary and Iowa caucus.
• Michigan GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis said Wednesday that he was proposing to hold the debate at Cobo Hall on Jan. 13, the first day of the media preview of the North American International Auto Show. The presidential primary is Jan. 15.
• Anuzis said he has spoken to representatives for all the main candidates in the Republican field as well as potential television partners, but said no final decision has been reached.
• He said the debate would help showcase Michigan’s auto industry and by limiting the participants to the top three candidates from the Iowa and New Hampshire contests, it would be the ‘‘first debate in the country that actually starts narrowing the field of who participates in the debate,’’ Anuzis said.

This all sounds good. Except I think it should be up to four or five. Considering the way the Republican race has been going. There are still Republicans, nationally and state, that are undecided. Some are still switching back and forth. To be honest, I am kinda bummed with Mr. Anuzis, someone who wants to see reform in this process. Yet, here it looks like possibly he is letting new Hampshowa dictating how Michiganders should think. Don't get me wrong, I like Mr. Anuzis, I just think this is too narrow within the field. But then again, I am just some chick sitting at my computer typing my thoughts and he is the State Party Chairman.
The timing is going to be interesting. Chippewa County will be hosting a Lincoln Day Dinner Brunch on the same day. If the debate does go through I wonder how the LDD would play through? That would be kinda interesting.

Another Michigan Endorsement for Mike Huckabee and Tenth michigan Blogger for Huckabee

I would just like to take this op to announce a second endorsement for Mike Huckabee, from the great state of Michigan! The first Michigan Endorsement being by Rev. Keith Butler. Mr. Akindele F. Akinyemi of "Akindele Unleashed" blog has endorsed Mike Huckabee. Who is Mr. Akinyemi? Well I don't know a whole lot about him, but here is his blog description; Who is Akindele?

The Founder and CEO of A-1 Management, an affiliate of the One Network, Mr. A works very hard to educate our youth and our community on conservative values that can help transform people lives. Sounds like a pretty smart guy, huh? He may not be some fancy pants Senator or Congressman. He seems like a well known blogger who is more than just the average blogger who just talks about there opinion. But if he supports Mike Huckabee he must know a thing or two. I have read his blog now and again. I have liked what I read. He seems very down to earth and his posts are concise, not like when "yours truly" rants and raves about this and that. Here is his post about endorsing Mike Huckabee.

• Today, I am officially announcing the endorsement of Gov. Mike Huckabee for President. Whether he wins or not I am highly impressed with his genuine approach of solving issues here in the United States.
• I was watching the CNN/YouTube debates last night and Gov. Huckabee impressed me. Here is the final hook for me during those debates. An African American male from Los Angeles, CA asked a question on why African Americans do not vote for Republicans when most of us are originally conservative. Gov. Huckabee stated that the Republican Party has not done a good job in reaching out to African Americans and he clearly stated how 48% of African Americans voted for him when he was Governor of Arkansas.
• 48%?
• If the Republican Party want to find someone who can swing the votes in the African American community it will be Huckabee. No one else.
• Mayor Guilani cannot do it because he has been historically hostile towards Blacks. Gov. Romney cannot do it because Blacks are traditionally skeptical of the Mormon faith. Most Blacks do not even know Fred Thompson or the other candidates and they have not been reaching out to the urban community.
• Speaking of Blacks, the Florida Republican Party is on fire. Not only they have had two Republican debates in the state but they even hosted a Black Republican Conference recently to gain more support for Blacks who are in the Republican Party as well as expanding their outreach efforts to bring Blacks into the Party. I am impressed unlike some of us in the Midwest who want to continue the status quo and wait until election time to bring Blacks into the Party just for a vote. Not interested in Johnny Come Lately types of campaigns.
• In various national polls, Huckabee is coming in a solid third behind former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson. In fact,the former Arkansas governor is now running in a dead heat with Mitt Romney in the lead in Iowa.
• I think he will beat Romney in Iowa. Huckabee is the sleeper in this race.
• Republican voters rate him first in both honesty and morality. Some Democrats I know are even switching their vote for Gov. Huckabee. The very fact that he is in the South makes him a stronger candidate than Romney or Guilani, who are looked at as either an Yankee or Liberal Republican.
• The other thing we are not looking at is how this man, with his honesty and being genuine, is correct on many social issues that Huckabee, a Baptist minister, is the real deal. This is playing well among Iowa Republicans, a third of whom are evangelicals and 70 percent of whom are conservatives.

Being the first Huckabee blogger from Michigan I am so glad to see that the list of Michigan bloggers for Huckabee is growing. The cool thing is that after I announce a new Huckabee blogger from Michigan I receive a comment that I missed someone. So, if I missed you, comment away. you're even allowed to chew me out for missing you. I also want to add that where I found out about Mr. Akinyemi's endorsement of Mike Huckabee was on RightMichigan.com. This is another of my fave blogs.

I Like Mike Pillow

Where have I been? Ya would think after all the buzz after the debate I would be keeping writing. Some people think the debate wasn't all that great. I have to admit, if the debate hadn't taken place in Michigan, I would probably be thinking the same thing. But the debate took place in my home state. So I guess I do have some bias there. I went in watching it with total excitement. I already knew "I Like Mike" and having a negative opinion about Mitt Romney. Plus I had so much fun blogging up to the minute of the debate. Although it did tire me out. Don't think it will happen again, unless there is some other event in Michigan.

Anyways as to what I have been up to since after the second airing of the debate. I started making an "I Like Mike" pillow. I am using red felt for the pillow, blue felt for the lettering, and white thread for the zig-zag to attach the lettering.

First I started out cutting two pieces of 15in, plus 1 1/4in for seams, of red fabric. Then after those were finished, I cut out letters. Once the letters were cut I pinned them to the front piece of the pillow. Since the pins make the fabric puffy, I am in the process of basting the letters on. Basting is the process of of using long stitches to merely hold the fabric in place before actually sewing on the regular stitches. Sometimes these are taken out once the actual sewing has been done. If the stitching is directly over the basting, the basting is kept in.

What I am I going to do with this pillow? Great question. Since I can't afford to give a contribution to Mike Huckabee's campaign I am going to sell it on eBay. I will be making more items, such as pillows, coasters, an hostess apron, carry-bags, and anything else I can think of. I will be listening to Elvis and Rockabilly music while I sew. So ya know every product will be made with love.

Remember the bag I made when I went to the Iowa Straw Poll? Remember the videos I made during that time? I will be making more videos while I am busy in the sewing room. From now on my sewing projects will be posted to Hobbies for Huckabee. I hope my projects can encourage people to be creative and join me on this community blog. It is not just about sewing. It is about anything artistic and creative.

Well, I gotta get back to my sewing.

I just would like to thank all of you who came to read my live blogging last night during the debate. According to statistics, I had over 300 hits during and after the the debate. And most of those came from the South and GM towns in Michigan. All of you really made it worth the while I worked my booty off. For those of you who were first timers to this blog, I hope you keep coming back for Mike Huckabee news, Michigan news, Rockabilly music, cherry cars and vintage sewing. I would also like to thank Maritime Sentry for mentioning the blogging I was doing about the debate.
I also apologize for the many spelling and grammatical errors. I was in a hurry to get out the info, plus show off the great cars. Cars that great blue collar men like my Grandpa Wells and other men and women in the factories sent off the assembly lines. Men and women, like my grandpa, who came to Flint and other cities from the deep South to find a better life in Michigan. People who traveled on trains, buses and old cars carrying with them not much more than the few clothes they had and possibly a guitar.
I will soon be doing a post about both my grandpas and the time they spent working for GM. Both men grew up in different parts of the country, lived different lives, different levels at GM, different political views, but the one thing they had in common was they loved their families and wanted to give them the best lives they could.
Now it is time for me to get back to my sewing and listen to scratchy Elvis records.

Waiting for Debate in Michigan!

Hello Yoopers, Michiganders and Americans! I am home blogging from north of the Mackinac Bridge. I have my TV set to CNBC. One of the ladies from the network was talking about the housing market. She was talking in Dearborn near the Ford Performing Arts & Community Center talking in front of a house for sale. She said that because of Michigan's economic situation we never really went through the housing boom. Now that the boom is gone we are really feeling the hurt. Less than one minute left, til the debate. Check here throughout the day. I will add different pics of great cars we, the state of Michigan, has given you in the past 50 years.

Auto Industry to be Focus of Michigan Debate/Mike Huckabee's a Chevy man!

• GOP debate to spotlight Big 3 issues
  In Dearborn next week, candidates are expected to be quizzed about trade, fuel economy, jobs.
  WASHINGTON -- The future of the struggling domestic auto industry will be front and center Tuesday when nine Republican GOP candidates debate economic issues in the shadow of Ford's world headquarters in Dearborn.
  Detroit's Big Three say it is a critical opportunity to address the future of the industry. General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC are not only sponsoring the debate, but also, outside the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, showing off their vehicles.
  The debate, which will air live on CNBC at 4 p.m. Tuesday and will be replayed on MSNBC at 7 p.m., will include about 600 credentialed journalists from around the globe.
  It's a "pivotal debate where the Republican candidates have an opportunity to address the critical issues facing the automotive industry as well as Michigan businesses and families," said Chrysler spokesman Colin McBean. Asked what question he would pose if he had the chance, he said: "Do you support a strong manufacturing base in the United States?"
  GM will have a "keen interest in the candidates' responses to questions on energy, the environment and economic policy," spokesman Greg Martin said. The Michigan appearance will "remind the candidates of how vital this industry is to America's economy and competitiveness."
  CNBC President Mark Hoffman said the debate will focus on the economy, as well as taxes, fiscal discipline and government regulation.
  Detroit is the right venue for such a debate, a Ford spokesman said. "Michigan and American auto companies are a vital part of the U.S. economy," spokesman Mike Moran said. "They are debating in the right town."

Well, I am sitting here at the library waiting to hear Mike Huckabee live on The Glenn Beck Radio Program. While I am waiting I thought I would touch base. Get this, I tried to sign on to my blog on one of the computers and it said "adult filter has blocked access to this site?". Anyhoo, I found one that let me on.

Here's what I wanted to share with you. There is a lot of buzz over at the Huckabee campaign.

All these things look like fun. I will be excited to find out more info as the campaign gives more details. By the way I just got a reply from the Michigan Republican Party. My name did not come up on the Debate Lottery. What does that mean? It means I don't get a ticket to the debate. Oh well, I can just stay home and make my "I Like Mike" crafts. Unless $500 magically falls my way and I can attend the lunch at the Henry Ford Mansion. If you want to go to the debate and have $500 to spare to attend this lunch you will automatically get a ticket, that way you can sit in the audience to show your support for Mike Huckabee. • - Yesterday we finalized plans with the University of Michigan at Dearborn and CNBC along with the Wall Street Journal to host a Republican Presidential Debate in Dearborn to be held on October 9th.
  CNBC will broadcast the debate live from 4-6 pm to catch the evening media cycle nationwide and then again from 9-11 nationwide.
  This debate will be focusing on “economic issues” effecting Michigan and the rest of the country. I can think of no better place than the home of the domestic auto industry as well as the home of the “Reagan Democrats” to host this debate.
  As nationals Democrats continue to disenfranchise independent and Democrat voters in Michigan and Florida…we are excited about the prospects of having a monopoly type opportunity for our candidates to share their vision, frame the debate and most importantly make their pitch to the independent swing voters and Reagan Democrats in both Michigan and Florida!
  We need to take advantage of the Democrats blatant disregard for the voters of these two key states from an electoral college perspective. Democrats haven’t won the presidency without carrying at least Michigan in recent history.
  We will soon have a separate web page and information about the debate as the plans start to materialize. This is exciting news for Michigan and the Michigan Republicans!
