Comparing Fred Thompson with Mike Huckabee

Who looks more trustworthy to you?

So, I guess Fred Thompson is planning on running. In this article in FOX news online it says he is setting up a "Friends of Fred Thompson" committee and will make an official announcement in July. I keep hearing all over in the media how the dissatisfied Christian conservatives have been waiting for Christian conservative to enter the race and overtake Rudy McRomney. Umm, I don't know what rock these people have been living under, but there has been a conservative Christian in the race since about mid-Feb. His name is Mike Huckabee.
Some people are comparing him to Ronald Reagan. The only comparison I can find is that both have been actors. I don't know too much about Fred Thompson. I know he is a Washington insider and has been a lobbyist. Call me crazy, but he just reminds me of the stereotype that Democrats make of the fat-cat-white-middle-age Republican. Every time I see him on TV and speak he just seems like a smug country-clubber. I just don't trust him.
Mike Huckabee is likable and has conservative/Christian values. I trust him. He is pro-life, pro-marriage, he supports Fair Tax and supports Net neutrality.

Mike Huckabee Right to Withdrawl from Leftist Baptist Convocation...

...says Tony Beam on his blog on Crosswalk.com. This is in regards to Mike Huckabee deciding not to attend the New Baptist Covenant Celebration. Mr. Beam is more surprised by the fact that Mike Huckabee had agreed to even attend in the first place. The organization is a division of the leftist World Baptist Alliance. Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Al Gore have teamed up on this attempt to form a new group of Baptists. Both Clinton and Carter claim that the goal is to “counter the negative Baptist image and demonstrate Baptist unity around social concerns.”
Here he talks of the true nature of the group to "counter the influence of conservative Christians in the Political arena." He goes on to say that the speakers have leftists beliefs that go against the beliefs of true conservative Southern Baptist Convention, who in 2004 overwhelmingly voted to withdraw from the Baptist World Alliance.

Important Anouncement From Glenn Beck e-mail

Since I have Dial-Up on my computer I usually have two or three windows (is that the correct term?) going on at once. I was waiting for one page to change, so I checked my e-mail. I got this one from Glenn Beck about what he will be discussing on today's show. Since it is almost at 7:00pm you might be reading this after the first broadcast. It will also be shown at 9:00pm and 12:00am. Here is an announcement about "environmentally safe" light bulbs.
That's HOT
CFL's (compact fluorescent light bulbs) are the new hot button item for the green crowd. Hollywood celebrities are telling us to use them. School children are now being encouraged by overzealous teachers to tell their parents to get these new wonder bulbs. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has jumped on the CFL promotional bandwagon. And who could blame the EPA for wanting to get involved with a light bulb that has only one tiny little warning: "If it breaks, open the window, leave room immediately for at least fifteen minutes because of the threat of mercury poisoning. Scoop fragments with cardboard or sticky tape. Place in plastic bag, seal and dispose of properly. Do not clean with vacuum or bare hands." It's just that easy to be green! History of our Republican Roots

As many people know Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican President. President Lincoln freed the slaves. But what all else do you know about the Republican History? Back in 2005 I attended the Mackinac Island Republican Leadership Conference. It is a bi-annual conference for elected officials, candidates and grassrooters in the state to get together and hear Republican speakers. It is held on Mackinac Island in Michigan and takes place on Friday through Sunday during the third weekend of September. This is also where Somewhere in Time was filmed. That was the movie starring Christopher Reed and Jane Seymour.
About a week or two before the conference started I got a flyer in the mail stating what the events would be. One of those events was a workshop about the Republican Party not forgetting our roots. The speaker was Micheal Zak. He is an historian, speaker and author.
I will be as quick as possible in explaining what his speech was about. Basically he said that for a hundred years the Republicans in Senate and Congress had been the ones trying to push through the "Civil Rights Bill" that Democrat President Lyndon Johnson signed in 1963. It was the Democrats who kept it from going through. He also stated that Women's Suffrage for women's voting rights was a Republican issue.
According to Mr. Zac, the Republican Party has allowed the Democrats to take over the Civil Rights issues. Lyndon Johnson's New Society is basically a new version of the plantation system.
Read his book, it is called "Back to Basics: For the Republican Party. Please check out his website Republican Basics. He also has a daily blog where he honors a person in Republican Civil Rights history. Go to Grand Old Partisan.
Until I heard him speak I thought civil rights was strictly a Democrat issue. I thought it was all about making a big deal of some one's race, ethnicity or gender. That is not the Republican view of Civil Rights. It is not what Abraham Lincoln, Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower or Martin Luther King (I realize MLK was not a Democrat or Republican) would want to see. They all believed in equality of everyone and no special rights for anyone. Unfortunately many young Republicans don't know this history and think that it is funny to have "Ghetto Parties", "Immigrant Parties" or "White Trash Parties." This is gross and disgusting. As a Republican I ask myself, WWALDO, meaning What Would Abraham Lincoln Do? Personally I don't think he would think such parties were funny.

Brian Setzer Still a Hottie After All These Years

This has nothing to do with Mike Huckabee, politics or news. I am all caffiened up and bored. I am listening to what has got to be my favorite CD, Brian Setzer "Rockabilly Riot Volume 1". Brian Setzer is STILL a hottie after all these years. I have been listening to him since I first saw the Stray Cats Rock this Town on MTV. That was back in the day when MTV played only videos. BTW, The Stray Cats are getting together for their first American concert in 15 years. They will be in Detroit on July 25, 07 aaahhooww yeah!!!!! I am soooo going, or at least try! They will be playing with ZZTop AND the Pretenders. Go to http://www.briansetzer.com/tour_main.htmlriansetzer.com/tour_main.html for all the tour dates, as of present.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

From now on forward, I will try to be more professional (at least in terms of unpaid blogging). I will call Mitt Romney by his true name, not Mitty. Same goes for everyone else I write about. As I thought about I realized I would get ticked off if someone acted the same about Mike Huckabee. I will also be blogging more about Mike Huckabee.

From the Union Leader-Huckabee vs. Richardson Would be a Dream Presidential Contest

From the Union Leader in New Hampshire. David Broder writes that Huckabee vs. Richardson would be a dream Presidential contest. Beginning paragraph, "THE LIVELIEST pair of candidates in the large fields of Democratic and Republican long shots, Bill Richardson and Mike Huckabee, are also -- not coincidentally -- the likeliest to break through into the top ranks of their parties if anyone ever does."

Some good things Mr. Broder says about Mike Huckabee.

"...Richardson and Huckabee communicate a good-humored enjoyment of the chase that is as refreshing as it is rare."

"Nonetheless, the early going has shown Huckabee and Richardson poking their heads above the others who are striving to break out of the second tier -- seven of them on the GOP side, five on the Democratic."

"Huckabee has been the source of some of the best lines at the two Republican debates, including his comment that Congress has 'spent money like John Edwards at a beauty shop.'"

"He is a good-natured fundamentalist, both in his religious values (a Baptist preacher before he entered politics) and in his basic conservatism. But he has an independent streak. He has the guts to call Alberto Gonzales an embarrassment to the administration and, at home, he defied the legislature in a losing battle to allow the children of illegal immigrants, when they graduated from an Arkansas high school, to go to college for the same tuition paid by other state residents. And he advocates a radical overhaul of the tax system, abolishing all federal levies in favor of a retail sales tax with progressive protections for the poor."

He also says of Mike "Huckabee is hurting for money and still searching for an early-voting state where he can plant his flag. He may never find it, but given the question marks hanging over the three Republican front-runners, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney, there could be room for him."
Yes, the money thing. Currently Mike doesn't have the money to bombard the people with advertising. That's where the grassrooters come in. All the Huckabee supporters need to do everything we can for him, whether it be through blogging, financial support or telling as many friends as possible about him.

Yes, there are question marks over the three biggies. There are no question marks lingering over Mike Huckabee. He is who he is, and that's a good thing!

Does Music and Arts Matter?

You sure bet! Why? As Mike Huckabee has said, kids need to use both their right and left sides of their brains and it helps bring kid's creative sides out. With the many technology jobs out there creativity is just as important as math, science and history.
IMHO these arts and music are just as important as football and cheerleading. Some kids may not be athletically inclined. And at that young of an age everyone wants to fit in.
In this presidential election arts and music are also important. We are in a war that is like no other before. This country needs a leader who is able to think outside the box to accomplish the mission. Someone who has a background in arts and music is able to think outside the box. It is also a sign of a person who is disciplined. Currently the Republicans who are involved with arts and music are Rudy Giuliani (theater) and Mike Huckabee (rock band "Capitol Offense").
Mike Huckabee is the true conservative of the two. He never wavers on issues. He stands firm for what he believes. Rudy Giuliani seems like a good enough guy, but he is not a true conservative. I implore everyone to look at the issues, not just support someone because the media chooses them as the "alleged" top tier. Which is more important, a popularity contest or the future of our country? Thought so.

Open Secrets

If you would like to get statistics about campaign fundraising go http://www.opensecrets.org/. This is a completely bi-partisan look at the campaign finances of all the '08 candidates. There you can find out who has raised how much money, how much money they have spent, compare different candidates fundraising to another's. There is also a US map where you can get state by state statistics. If your curious about previous elections the '00 and '04 presidential info is there too. You can also find info on the '06 midterms. For the '06 midterms you can find donation info by individual donor of who donated more than $200. I know that sounds voyeuristic, but if you want to spy on your neighbors donating and whatnot it's all there. There is much more info than I have described. Have Fun!

Mike Huckabee' Guest Blog on Red State

Great blog by Mike Huckabee about the Fair Tax Read Here: www.redstate.com/stories/policies/taxes/its_time_for_the_fair_tax

Miss USA booed in Mexico

Was watching FOX News. John Gibson reported that Miss USA was booed at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico. Pageant officials say they weren't booing her, but the American policy. Donald Trump who owns the organization says that Miss USA represents American policy. Really? What can I say about this? I thought elected officials represented American policy. I must have missed this lesson in government class.
BTW, Miss USA finished 4Th place, if you care. I am not knocking the pageant. I just think there is more important things in the world.

The Commies are Coming, The Commies are Coming, Duck and Tuck!

A while back I had wrote about the teen pregnancy school movie from the fifties. I tried to find it on YouTube to show on my blog, no such luck. I did find this school-educational cartoon about communism. Watch and think. Ask yourself questions while viewing. Does any one American political party have communist leanings? Or can you see a bit of communism in both parties? What about Ronald Reagan's 11Th commandment? Don't get me wrong I like Reagan, except when someone is told not criticize someone just because they are in the same political party it makes ya stop and think. When Reagan said this the party was different, now there are too many opportunes, who could, can and have taken advantage of this statement.

Again, Another Great Television Performance by Mike Huckabee

Yesterday Mike Huckabee appeared on Chris Wallace's "Fox News Sunday." Watching this interview, it dawned on me who he reminds of. On Sunday there is a plethora of TV pastors. I watch many of these shows. One of my favorites is Joel Olsteen. Mike reminds me of Joel. His demeanor, friendliness and smile. Both men are very calm, yet able to mean business on what they say.
Seeing Mike and Chris talk on the show was like watching two local guys having coffee at the local cafe, talking of the "news of the day." Rather than a stiff rehearsed television interview. Unlike many candidates there was emotion in Mike Huckabee's eyes while he talked about the Fair Tax. He explained it in a common sense approach, while using numbers at the same time.
He is able to talk about the front runners without running them down. He shows that he has respect for Rudy Giuliani, while stating how he disagrees with his position on abortion. He called John McCain an American hero and refused to run him down on Memorial Day Weekend. He said of Mitt Romney that he was a good colleague as governor. But he also said that on most issues Mitt has had 180 degree turnarounds. An analogy Mike made was of an Arkansas saying that "if you don't like the weather wait five more minutes and it will change.
He also addressed the issue that the most important part in immigration is securing the border first and foremost. When asked about the campaign/money situation, his response was that the voting public is smart enough to realize that it is more about just money. It is about the ideas and plans. He called the "health care system" the "sick care system." He talked about implementing art and music education into schools to help with student's learning from both the left and right side brains. The Iowa straw poll was also addressed and it's importance in the race.

Blogger's Call Part 2

I already posted my question and answer with Mike Huckabee, from yesterdays blog call. Other people had great questions for the former governor. And he gave great responses, so now it is time to talk about those.

Mr. Huckabee started off thanking everyone for taking time to listen. He also wished everyone a safe and Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It was also his 33rd wedding anniversary to Janet (McCain) Huckabee yesterday. In my opinion she has a better last name now.

Former Governor David Beasley, of South Carolina, had many kudos and respect for Mr. Huckabee. He praised Mr. Huckabee for his performance at both debates. He said he had great skills to be the next president. Mr. Beasley has received many calls from South Carolinians having positive comments about Mike Huckabee. He says South Carolinians are waiting for someone to support. He believes he will see more support for Mike Huckabee within the next few months. He said he and South Carolina will do everything to help Mike win.

Due to the fact that "Americans for Fair Tax" is a non-profit organization they won't endorse him, or any other candidate. But he will endorse them. When president he will do everything he can to get the Fair Tax passed. The Fair Tax will work for everyone. It won't penalize anyone, regardless of how much or how few goods they buy. It will help productivity. He also stated that 80% of Americans would like to see an overhaul of of the current tax system. Only 2% are actually satisfied with the way the system is.

Kevin Tracy, another blogger asked about the Net Neutrality Bill, Senate Bill 215. I am rather unfamiliar with this. You can go to his blog to read more about Governor Huckabee's response. He knows more about it and can explain it better. Titled Gov. Huckabee on Net Neutrality.

Don't forget to watch Mike on Fox News tomorrow at 9am est, interview with Chris Wallace!

450 Already!

Mike Huckabee's campaign already has 450 contributions and there is still time left, 24 hours. Click on the barber's pole. I am still working on my blog about the blogger's conference call. It is taking me a while, since I am adding cool retro graphics and writing at the same time. I will probably have to make it in two parts.

I Like Mike and Still Like Ike/Bloggers Call

Mike ain't just full o' jellyeans

Ok, so I participated in the bloggers conference call. I did ask a question. I probably sounded like a "square", stuttering and stammering.

I asked him about the slogan "I Like Mike." As a fan of anything from the fifties this is the slogan that caught my attention before I even knew anything about him. I asked him if he was thinking of Former President Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower when he came up with the slogan. A friend of his came up with it when he first ran for senate in 1992. He said he wished he had been the one to come up with it, "cause it was pretty good." He has kept the slogan during other campaigns. He joked that, "So far the Eisenhower family hasn't sued. Maybe because I am a Republican." Mr. Huckabee you are way to modest. It's more than just being a Republican. The "I Like Ike era" was everything Mike Huckabee stands for.

I asked if he had any admiration for Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower, and why. He made two points why he still "Likes Ike." The interstate system was the first point. He said it brought great growth to the American economy. He felt Ike was under appreciated for that accomplishment. The tourism economy rose due to the new and safer roads. Transporting of goods was made easier, thus the American people were able to get more choices at the local stores at cheaper prices. I have to admit that there is one downside to this, the "tourist traps" weren't visited as much. But the Mackinac Bridge was also built during this time, completed in 1957. This bridge brought together both the Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula in Michigan.

Another point he made was of Eisenhower' strengths. Mike said of Ike that he had a driven purpose to lead America during one of the greatest times in history. Mike called Ike a man of vision.

Straw Poll on GOPBLOGGERS

Good morning y'all, just woke up. If you have the time take this quick poll on GOPBLOGGERS StrawPoll. Admittedly I only take polls with a grain of salt. Although they are fun. So go and show your support for Mike Huckabee!

Well I am excited. I get to participate in another bloggers call. I may ask a question this time. I am a bit "phone shy." Writing is different. I don't know if you recall the old Stray Cats' song, "Little Miss Prissy", but that song describes me. "...she talk talk talks all night, but she ain't got much to say. She don't need no ones opinion, don't want no interruptions..." Except I don't "live down London Way."

Well I am a bit tired to write. I still need to fire up the percolator. Coffee is a bloggers best friend! I promise to start writing serious stuff again, soon. Remember to check out the message board, link on top of page. Let's get conversation going.

What is "Looks Presidential"?

Politician
Vote Mitt Romney for Ken Doll!

I keep hearing about Mitt Romney, John Edwards and Barack Obama looking presidential. What does that mean? How petty is that? Just because they are handsome, or some people think so. In this day and age of reality and makeover shows it is hard to get the American people to look beyond a pretty face. In my humble opinion, if I were to elect someone based on looks I would vote for the average looking candidate. Not that I would vote based on looks. No offense, Mike Huckabee is not "Prom King" material. Not saying that he is dog ugly.
He kind of reminds me of one of the guys in town I might run into at the grocery store. Yelling across the aisle, "Hi Mr. Huckabee. How is Janet and your kids...That's good. I sure bet Jet can't wait to go fishing...Well, have a nice day!"
These guys that are being described as "looking presidential" remind me of yuppies that you would run into at Whole Foods. I don't shop at gourmet stores, but I'm going to assume conversations are about golf, different types of wines, caviar and expensive cheeses.
Maybe I am putting too much thought into it. I guess I am just saying that if you want someone to represent the average American you need to look at who has lived the life of an average American. Mike Huckabee didn't grow up in a life of privilege, in Hope, Arkansas. Everything he has he earned. He had to pull himself up from his bootstraps. To me that is a true American. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against rich people who were born into money. They have every right to run for office. All I am saying is, what are the motives? If they truly want to see a better America then cool. If they are planning to give their big business buddies handouts (yes handouts is not just a phrase for the welfare state), then not cool.
I would rather get a gem of a gift that is wrapped in a plain wrapper tied with twine, than a gift wrapped with pretty papers and big bows with nothing inside. That is what Mike Huckabee is. He is a gem wrapped in plain paper.

P.S. Doesn't the haircut of the emoticon look like John Edwards?

Mike Huckabee's Houston visit promoting Fair Tax

Yesterday Mike Huckabee was in Houston, Texas promoting the Fair Tax Plan. "The Fair Tax, which was given birth here in Houston, Texas, is the most reasonable and most logical, and it's the most doable way to completely revolutionize our current tax structure", he said.
The Fair Tax Plan began in Houston, Texas. To read more about Americans for Fair Tax click here.

Elvis Has Not Left the Building

Sometimes reading about politics and blogging about it can be stressful and a real downer. When I blog I try to be a little lighthearted, while being serious at the same time. When I see polls that put Rudy McRomney in the double digits and Mike Huckabee in low numbers I get frustrated. Or I read about his contenders do or say things that are not what the Republican party truly stand for. I realize it has to do with the "money factor" and name recognition. I wonder why people fall for this tripe. Then there is the trouble in the middle east, immigration and the economy.
While writing, I listen to music that lifts me. The best CD I have in my collection is Elvis' Amazing Grace. This is a 2 CD collection that has everyone of his gospel recordings. Even some that have never been released are included. Hearing Elvis sing gospel goes directly to my gut and heart. All the songs in the collection are spectacular, especially "Amazing Grace." Thee best song has got to be "You'll Never Walk Alone." While listening to this song I feel that even though things may seem like a bummer, everything will make sense as long as we "walk on, walk on, walk on and you'll never walk alone." When I close my eyes and sing along it brings tears of joy to my eyes. For anyone who has never heard this song, you will cry the first time you hear it. I believe God will hear our prayers as long as we are sincere. He knows everything that is going on in this country and the world. Just remember "All things are possible, If You Only Believe." I believe this country will get back on track, as long as Americans pay attention to what is going on and find out where all the candidates stand on the issues. Not just listen to sound bites.

Mike Huckabee on Hannity and Colmes

Just finished watching the Mike Huckabee interview on Hannity and Colmes. First Allen Colmes asked Mr. Huckabee about declining from attending the Baptist Covenant Program Celebration, where Jimmy Carter will speak. Mike told him it was because he didn't think it would be appropriate to attend a conference that is supposed to focus on religion, after Jimmy Carter made a political statement about a sitting president. That comment, in case anyone forgot is "...this administraion has been the worst in history." Mike addressed the issue that it is unspoken rule that a former president should not personally attack a sitting president. Allen said that other former presidents have attacked sitting presidents before. Mike said it may be true, but it is wrong. Especially someone like Jimmy Carter, considering Jimmy Carter's record compared with his immediate successor Ronald Reagan. He went on to talk about the comparison of the two. He addressed the economy and foriegn policy during Carter administration. He talked about how Reagan uplifted the country during his administration.
Allen and the British dude (sorry I can't remember his name) that is filling in for Sean Hannity asked him about being happy with not being in top-teir candidate. Mike said that he will wait it out and watch the "'big three" duke it out like Rosie and Elizabeth." He believes that after all that is over he will be noticed on the issues. He feels he will come out on top as the true conservative on issues such as pro-life, immigration and music and arts education.

My thoughts: Allen may be right, about former presidents criticizing sitting presidents. But this is only recent, like Clinton dissing on Bush. Other than that I don't think so. Former presidents may have said how they would have handled a situation differently. That is fine, so long as it is not personal attacks. What Carter did was make a personal attack.

So far 300 contributions!

I was just on the Mike Huckabee website. He has 300 contributions so far. It hasn't even been 24 hours. Way to go Mike!!!!!! To make a contribution click here! Do whatever you can, even it's less than $50. For just the price of one haircut you too can support a candidate. We need Mike Huckabee to be the Republican nominee.

Great Line Fred!

Below is a funny video of Fred Thompson responding to Micheal Moore, that I found. You may be wondering why I would put up a video of one of Mike Huckabee's possible contenders. Here's the deal, there is a funny line about a mental institution that you have to see.

From the beginning. Fred Thompson criticized Mikey "no Moore" for making a movie called "Sicko". I guess this is Mikey's autobiographical documentary? Actually it has something to do with praising Cuba's health care system. Mikey challenged Mr. Thompson to a debate about Cuba's health care and Thompson's love of Cuban cigars. The video below shows Thompson's response to Mikey. Enjoy!

Statement from Mike Huckabee on Jimmy "Mr. Peanut(head)" Carter

I was in the middle of a blog when I decided to check my e-mail and I noticed I got an email from the Huckabee Campaign. It is a statement on Jimmy Carter's comments about President Bush. The same comment can be found on his website. Instead of blogging about it I thought I would just simply copy and paste. His statement just shows he has common sense. Anyways I need to get off the computer my cat, Joe, thinks it's funny to get on top of my computer desk and throw music CDs at me. Please take time to read.

Statement by former Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) on the New Baptist Covenant Celebration:

"While I continue to have great respect for President Carter as a fellow Christian believer and Baptist, I’m deeply disappointed by the unusually harsh comments made in my state this past weekend regarding President Bush, and feel that it represents an unprecedented personal attack on a sitting president by a former president which is unbecoming the office as well as unbecoming to one whose conference is supposed to be about civility and bringing people together. "President Carter violated an unspoken code that you don't make personal attacks on others who currently hold the job -- you just don't. "I tentatively agreed to participate in the Baptist meeting with the understanding that it was a celebration of faith and not a political convocation. In light of the program and roster of speakers, as well as the very harsh comments toward our president this weekend, I feel it would be best for me to decline the invitation and to not appear to be giving approval to what could be a political, rather than spiritual agenda. “Had I spoken at the New Baptist Covenant Celebration, they would have heard a very conservative message which would be unapologetically pro-life, pro-family and by some definitions, fundamentalist in theology. But I’m a conservative who’s not mad at anyone else and would not want to knowingly participate in a program if the focus was to tear down others instead of to lift Christ up.”

Huckabee Supports Abstinence Only Program

I have been having writers block all day today, even when I found good Huckabee articles. I did save them in my browser. I just couldn't come up with the right words to write. Until just now. I have been listening to my Brian Setzer "Rockabilly Riot 1" CD. If you don't remember or haven't heard of him, Brian Setzer was the lead singer of the Stray Cats. This CD is cover songs of many great songs from the best rock era ever! All these songs were originally recorded at SUN Records in Memphis Tennessee. Listening to this great music gets my creativity flowing.

David Brody of Pat Robertson's CBN network asked the presidential candidates about House Democrats wanting to stop funding for abstinence only programs in schools. Read his full article here. The only two to respond were Mike Huckabee and Sam Brownback. Rudy McRomney campaigns didn't respond. I would expect ol' Giuliani to not respond. Not sure if this surprises me about McCain. I would think Mitty would have, if only to pander.

Some highlights from Mike Huckabee. "I do not believe in teaching about sex or contraception in public schools. That is the responsibility of the parents. I miss the America where Gideons gave Bibles to Fifth Graders instead of school nurses giving condoms to eighth graders...."

In an article Mr. Brody refers to Michigan Representative David Dingell (D) of Michigan is quoted as saying "the decision to stop funding wasn't difficult at all. Abstinence only education seems to be a colossal failure." Why do the dorks (professional word of the day) of Michigan seem to get the national attention?

My rant and rave for the day.
Now, Mr. Dingell is it the abstinence only that is a failure or is it the parents? Too many parents want to be "buds" with their kids. They are scared of their kids not liking them. Oh boo-hoo! As a gen-xer, I am probably from the last generation to be raised where kids were taught to respect themselves and that kids are NOT "little adults". The problem is mothers and fathers don't respect each other. It doesn't matter if they are divorced or not. Of course it is best if they are married and married for the right reasons. When kids see the men and women who are closest in their lives not respecting each other how can they respect themselves? If they can't respect themselves they can't respect others. Boys AND girls need a father who doesn't think women are blow-up dolls. They also need a mother who does not talk down to or about the father. Parents need to teach their kids that dating and marriage is about more than love/lust.

I recall a while back seeing on TV where in the '50's that they used to have life lesson films. One of these films was "Suzy" the teenage girl was walking around town with a baby carriage, her baby not babysitting, and all the other teenagers were pointing and laughing at her. And the "announcer guy" was talking about how "Suzy" used to be popular and now nobody talks to her. I think schools should bring these films back. Except they should also show "Suzy's" boyfriend being laughed at also. It goes both ways. It may be politically incorrect, but I don't care. Nowadays, it is almost a status symbol to have a kid while in school. During this time in American life boys respected AND liked girls who said "no." In this era boys, and grown men for that matter, respect girls/women who say "no" but don't like them. Or they like girls who "put out" but not respect them. This confuses both males and females. Gloria Steinem and the whole "sexual revolution" has ruined male/female relations.

Crowd Cheers Mike Huckabee... Oh yeah and Sam Brownback

Mike Huckabee and Sam Brownback spoke to a crowd of conservatives in Orlando, Florida on Saturday. The group was the Florida Family Policy Council. The message from both candidates at the dinner was about strong values rather than health care, Iraq or taxes. The attendees were impressed by both men. "I am completely blown away by the two men we heard tonight", said by Sen. Mel Martinez (R) of Florida. Many in the crowd were looking for alternatives to "Rudy McRomney." "The top tier,...does not fit the definition of what a true conservative has historically been"..., Roy Tanner of Orlando. The Florida group was urged by both candidates to continue to work on efforts to put a gay marriage ban in the states constitution. Mike Huckabee talked of his covenant-marriage law.

Added Additional Videos

I have added a few new videos. These highlight the best moments of Mike Huckabee's performance at the debate. No matter how many times I watch the video about the John Edwards joke it still makes me laugh. Maybe Mike Huckabee can teach Ann Coulter about how to tell a proper John Edwards joke. One that is within context.
I was unable to see him in the interview with Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes when it aired, but found it on Youtube. Absolutely Great, is my reaction! He was calm and seemed more like an average American than a politician. He didn't seem to pretend to be something he's not. Both Sean and Alan seemed to like him. How often can those two agree on anything? Thought so.
The videos will stay at the top of the page, so that they can be easily viewed. Enjoy!

Another Pet Peeve is Spell Check (Huckabee is too a word)

Considering that my blog is mainly about Mike Huckabee, everytime I do the spell check "Huckabee" gets highlighted. I understand that last names are not included, but famous last names are. Mike Huckabee is running for Republican nomination of Republican for the '08 presidential race. That should put him in the well known catergory. Giuliani, McCain and Romney are in spell check. Although I can never spell Giuliani correct. Anyways, that's enough babbling for now. I am hungry. I think I will make a nice Czech dinner of pork roast, asparagus and bacon dumplings.

Mike Huckabee Shows He Can Run with the Bulls

Many pundits and analysts have been noticing Mike Huckabee. It's about time. I have been following his campaign since I came back from the Michigan Republican State Convention in early February. At this convention Mitt Romney and Sam Brownback spoke on behalf of themselves. Other big wigs in the Michigan Republican party spoke on behalf of McRudy. I left there thinking Romney wasn't too bad. Except I did have a problem with his flip-flops. I left there thinking there has to be something better. Well, I found something better, and that was Mike Huckabee. Now others are starting to see what I saw back then. Click here to see the praises others have lauded on him. Richard Galen has said, "Huckabee did well enough so that the big three is now the big three and a half." I would not call Mike Huckabee half of anything. He is definitely "All that and a bag of chips."
And just think, I am just an average American without any fancy title at the Republican Party. Maybe the average American is smarter than we are given credit for.

Huckabee Uncertain on No. 2 Slot

Mike Huckabee has said he would probably "have to think long and hard" about being a running mate to a pro-choice candidate, when asked. Click here for the article. Mike Huckabee has his convictions and sticks to them. In a conference call with reporters he said, "This is an issue to me that is very crucial. It's one of the reasons I got into politics..." Good for you Mike! This is why "I like Mike."

Weirdos are Going to Protest Jerry Falwell's Funeral

Anti-gay Kansas Church Members Plan to Picket Jerry Falwell Funeral, click here to read full story in FOX News. Westboro Baptist Church plans to protest the funeral of Jerry Falwell. Yes, this is the same group that protests at the funeral of soldiers and anyone else in the news. Like I said before I was not a fan of Jerry Falwell. But still, there is no reason to protest a funeral. These people are sick. According to the article they even recorded a song and video "God hates the world", sung to the tune of "We are the world."

Shut Yo' Mouth Chris Mathews

There is a good article about Mike Huckabee in The Times Record of Fort Smith, Ark. about Mike Huckabee. It is a review of his performance at the debate. Many people had praise for him, such as Rich Galen and Mike Steele. Rich Galen is a former advisor to former vice president Dan Quayle and Newt Gingrich. Mike Steele is the former lieutenant governor of Maryland.

Except Chris Mathews had to keep dissing on Mike Huckabee. First he harassed Mr. Huckabee at the first debates. Now he has said of the John Edwards comment that he thought the comment was prepared in advance. He said, " It is an embarrassment that they have to come up with these jokes." He claimed this was pandering on the part of Mr. Huckabee. Pish. Would he say the same thing if it were one of the big name money boys that had said anything nearly half as funny? He would probably praise them.

What crawled up Chris Mathews butt and died? First he harassed Mike Huckabee at the first debates, now he has to dis on him for a comment that got great reviews and national attention. Did he not hear the laughter and applause? There is no way that was statement rehearsed. Mr. Huckabee would not have been able to make such a good delivery if that were the case.

According to Rich Galen, "He has vaulted himself. He has to be taken serious", said of Mike Huckabee. From Micheal Steele, "You saw, in my view, an expansion from three to four." This is in regards as to the top-tier positions. So if smart observant people such as these two gentleman can see what a great asset to this country Mike Huckabee will be, why can't Chris Mathews?

My Computer is Acting Stupid

I don't know what is up with my computer. It was working fine this morning and then it started acting stupid. I kept losing the connection while I was using it. I would try to reconnect and nothing. Well at about 10:30am I gave up due to the fact that I was to participate in a conference call for Mike Huckabee. After the call I was all psyched to get on my computer and blog. So, I tried to connect, nothing again. I was doing everything I was told to do, in the help section. I gave up. I decided to come up to the library and work on the computer. Anyways, my mind is not functioning well to blog about the call and I left my notes home. I will get my mind clear by tomorrow. I will also be watching last nights debate and blog about that, maybe not tomorrow, but soon. I guess I am just babbling, so I shall go now.

It has just been announced that Jerry Falwell has passed away after being found unconscious in his office. He had had heart problems within the past recent years. I was not a fan of his, but he was decent man. Read the article here

Setting my VCR for the Debates

Regretfully I am unable to watch the debates live tonight on FOX News 9 pm to 10:30 pm . So I decided I will record it. Maybe this will be more fun. I can stop, rewind and dissect everything everyone says.
I have already set up my VCR to record the debates. I don't normally use it. Rarely less do I record. It is a combo VCR/DVD. It took me about an half hour to set it up. The instructions kept telling me to press the "menu" button. But the menu never came up on the screen. It took me a while to figure out that I needed to press "VCR" button, then I was good.
I found some good ideas on SLATE. It is about readers ideas to make the debates on both sides a little a more interesting. I know, I know, SLATE has very liberal slant. Personally I like to read and watch info from both sides. Otherwise I would feel like a clueless zombie if I only read and watched sites and channels with conservative slants. For the article click here. Also read some of the readers comments on the article. Beware, some of the comments are from liberals, actually most of them are.

When Mike Huckabee "Faced the Nation"

Since my old blog is lost for good I thought I would refer to some older Huckabee news articles and videos. This blog is about Mike Huckabee on "Face the Nation" from April 8, 2007. The cool thing about Mike Huckabee is that anything about him from months ago is still relevant currently, due to the fact that his positions are never wavering. Even if one were to look for info on him during his governorship in Arkansas anything he did then would reflect his current views as he is running for the Republican nomination.

Bob Schieffer introduced Mike Huckabee as "one of the few candidates who says what he means" also calling him "one of the more interesting candidates in politics." At the beginning of the show Bob Shieffer asked him about something he said in an Arkansas publication when he addressed the hypocrisy of holding Bill Clinton to a different standard, in regards to infidelity, than the Republicans. Mr. Schieffer asked if he was talking about Rudy Giuliani. He said that he was talking about the evangelical right. He feels that all the candidates should be analyzed in all aspects. Basically his message was that what Bill did was not right, but those who have said anything about it should hold conservatives to the same standard. I am in total agreement.
Lately Republicans have been talking about how Hillary Clinton handled Bill's infidelity. The rich end of Republicans who talk about "family values" go out and fool around with the cocktail waitress at the country club or their secretary. Yet, their rich wives stay with them. He didn't say that. That is just my opinion.

He also addresses the issue of Hillary Clinton. He has called her focused, disciplined and brilliant. When asked about this comment he said this is not a compliment just an observation. I don't know if I would call her brilliant, but I definitely would call her focused and disciplined. She has been focusing on the presidency since the end of her husbands term. He also calls her dangerous and addressing the issue of knowing what she can do.

He also addresses the issue of candidates not being afraid to stand up for who they are. One being Mitt Romney joining the NRA and claiming to be a lifelong hunter when he has only been hunting twice in his entire life. The other is Rudy Giuliani's abortion stance. While the two are in disagreement with one another Mr. Huckabee does admire his ability to stand for what he believes in.

He talks about the role of fundraising in the campaign. That it's more than just money.

He also talks about the role of religion in the "public square." That it should not tell people what or how to worship. The best quote, "Government shouldn't tell people how to worship or that they should worship." How refreshing to hear this from a Republican candidate. As a Christian who believes in free will from God I am equally perturbed with people who get upset with ACLU trying to control the government as I am the ACLU. Too many people who oppose the oposers can be just as bad.

He also talks about his position on the war. And he is against time-tables.

Guns, Gays and Abortion, Oh My!

Years ago, long before my time, these things were never a part of politics. Now that they are there is no going back. So the American public needs to look at not who is saying what, but who is saying these things because it is their belief instead of trying to appease everyone. Mike Huckabee is an avid hunter who believes in gun rights. He was the first elected official in the state of Arkansas to get a concealed gun permit. He doesn't support gay marriage or unions. While at the same time not judging them. He believes we are all God's creation and that the only one to judge over us is God himself. His pro-life stance has been consistent. The thing that really strikes out at me is that while a pastor he had talked to young girls who were going through unplanned pregnancies. He knew these girls had weighty issues to consider. How many of the other candidates could say this?

Political Pet Peeves

I have a few political pet peeves that have stuck in my craw since the '06 election.

First one that really disgusts me beyond belief is a flier I got from Right to Life of Michigan. I am pro-life, but some stuff that other pro-lifers do creeps me out. Last election I got a flier in the mail. On the front was a picture of a little girl no older than seven years old. She is holding a sign or a banner that says, "Mr. DeVos please don't let them kill babies." The Mr. DeVos this is referring to is the Republican gubernatorial candidate, Dick DeVos, who unfortunately lost. This is sick and disgusting beyond belief. When I saw this my eye went to the picture before I saw who sent it. At first I thought it was from Dick DeVos campaign. Upon thinking that, I was determined right then that I was not going to do any more volunteering for him or the Michigan Republicans either. As I was taking the flier to the trash can I looked closer and realized it was from Right to Life of Michigan. After I tore it up I spit on it.
I don't know who the parents of this child are, but they should not be allowed to have children. What kind of sick twisted people take an innocent little child to a pro-life, or pro-choice for that matter, rally? What did they tell their child about what was going on? How did they explain the words on the sign to her? When I was that age I was under the belief that, "married mommies and daddies pray to God for a baby and God puts one in the mommies tummy." So I figured that if a woman was pregnant it was because she was married and she asked God for it. Now, how does any reasonable adult explain abortion to a child? I don't think I want to know the answer to that. I want to know what was in the minds of the people who marketed this trashy flier? Did they think that if they put a cute little girl on their flier it would tug at peoples heart strings? The only thing it tugged at me was me tugging my hair out in frustration.
Conservative Republicans say that the reason they don't want sex ed taught in school is because they don't want innocent children exposed to it at such an early age and that the parents should explain it to their kids. Agree. I believe it looks rather hypocritical to let kids know about abortion at such a tender age and say they are too young to know about sex. I guess it depends on how it fits their personal agenda. I didn't know what abortion was until about late junior high or early high school.
When I was volunteering at a local phone bank one of the callers whose wife was at home brought in two of his kids that are still in elementary school to help out on the phone bank. It's not like he had to bring them because his wife was at work, a committee meeting, PTA or church meeting and couldn't get a babysitter. There were about four or five questions that callers were to ask of respondents. One of them was, "Do you consider yourself pro-life or pro-choice or no comment". First off children have no business at these phone banks. Teenagers, fine. Second, the kids should not be asking adults a question like this. The father of these children is a nice guy, so I will say that his heart was in the right place. Though a little misguided. I think most people who get these calls with the children talking feel a little uncomfortable. It's not cute to have kids act like little adults. They have enough to deal with regarding things like school violence and hoochies like Britney and Paris.

This brings me to my next pet peeve, "The Happy-ass Family." A few years ago Hillary Clinton wrote a book called It Takes a Village to Raise a Child. The Republicans made fun of her for this. I think the book idea was ridiculous too. But now it seems like Republicans act like they think it takes a village too. During the campaign I kept seeing print and TV ads and fliers with pictures of the Republican candidates posing with their wives and kids. The ads were about "I have a perfect family everything is hunky-dory." They would even list the happy-ass family as qualifications for why he should be elected. "I have been married ? years. I have ? wonderful kids. My wife is a member of the Junior League. I am coach of my sons soccer team. My daughters are in ballet/cheer leading." That's nice. How is this going to help with the person being elected? As long as the person isn't an alcholic, drug addicted, wife beating, child abuser I really don't care about his family life. In fact the more I see of the politician pushing his family life in my face the more I think he is a lyin, cheatin, adultaratin dog. It's like he has to prove something to everyone. Maybe I am just the village idiot for not wanting to raise the village children. Don't get me wrong, I think it is nice to see the candidate and his family. My point is there is a difference between bringing the family along during campaigns and shoving them in my face to have him say, "Look at my kids. Aren't they cute?".
Ohhh, those Christmas cards the guys who have been eyein the Presidential race for quite a while now. When I get Christmas cards I like them to have nice wintry or religious pictures on them. The candidates send cards that have the happy-ass family on them or the couple. Please, if they want to get peoples attention they shouldn't be so egotistical on their cards. "Jesus is the Reason for the Season." Or so I'm told, by these same people. Why not send me a card that has a Christmas scene on it and the picture inside.
Believe it or not I have more pet peeves. Even though I am a Republican and most Republican bloggers write about what is wrong with the Democrats I think that sometimes my own party needs a good makeover and I will tell it like it is, nor matter the party affiliation. When I was a kid and me and my little friends got caught for doing something wrong I would tell my mom, "but 'Suzy' did it too". My mom would tell me that she didn't care what Suzy did. I was her kid and that I was her responsibility. I think Republicans should stop worrying about "Suzy and Johnny" and worry about themselves. I am positive that there will be a change, for the better. Hopefully sooner than later.

Candidates Favorite Music (Republicans and Democrats)

Sometimes following politics can be stressful. Well, I found an article about the Primary Candidates that is fun and lighthearted. As a music fan I find this great as an insite into the candidates personal side. A question asked of the candidates by the AP was, "What was your last music purchase?".
Here is thier answers:

DEMOCRATS
Joe Biden of Delaware-"My Sisters Playlists"
Hillary Clinton of New York-Carly Simon's "Into White"
Chris Dodd of Connecticut-soundtrack to Jersey Boys
John Edwards of North Carolina-U2
Dennis Kucinich of Ohio-likes Willie Nelson
Barack Obama-Ray soundtrack from the movie about Ray Charles
Bill Richardson of New Mexico-George Strait "50 Number One Hits"

REPUBLICANS
Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas-Micheal W. Smith
Rudy Giuliani of New York-Verdi's "Macbeth"
Mike Huckabee of Arkansas-Evanescence
Rep. Duncan Hunter of California-likes country and Gospel
Sen. John McCain of Arizona-fave album "Sounds of Summer-The Very Best of The Beach Boys"
Mitt Romney of Massachusetts-"Selection of Roy Orbison songs from iTunes"
Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado-Frank Sinatra "Duet Combo"

As I am listening to my Stray Cats "Built for Speed" CD, here is my personal take on the selections. Some of the music I don't know too much about. I kinda figured Hillary would like Carly Simon. Nothing wrong with that. The only Carly Simon song I really know is "Your so Vein", maybe others that I have forgotten or didn't know she sang them. I have to admit that I like this song. I'm guessing this is what she sings to Bill. U2, now that surprises me about John "Mr. $400 haircut" Edwards. IMHO, I think of U2 as being for people who are in tune to the world. Yes, Bono has money, but he knows of what's going on in the world, besides the AIDS in Africa. It may be his pet project, but I think the majority of his fans use $400 to pay for a good portion of their rent or mortgage. Anyways U2 is cool. I like them and remember them on MTV back in the day when MTV played strictly videos. I don't know much about Dennis Kucinich. I do like Willie Nelson though, despite the fact that he is liberal. I like his music. His music is pure unadulterated country. Ray Charles, I can't quite say this was a surprise nor can I say it was predictable for Barack. Unfortunately I didn't get to see Ray. I do like his music though. This shows that Barck has a fun, let loose kinda side. "Hey hey what I say!" Yes, I said something nice about a Democrat, that doesn't mean I will change party affiliation and support Barack. But when someone likes good music, they like good music and he deserves credit for that. I may not be a fan of Bill Richardson, but I am a fan of George Strait. This shows that he has a down to earth personality and keeps it real. Now I feel like packing my bags to get to "Amarillo by Morning". Hey when someone likes good music....

Now for my take on the Republicans music choices. I like both Sam Brownback and Michael W. Smith. This shows that he likes music about his faith. If someone listens to music about their faith that shows that they have a passion for it and not ashamed to show it. Verdi, I admit I did have to look this one up this on Wikipedia. Giuseppe Verde was an Italian opera composer. This would be predictable of Rudy Giuliani. After all, he is Italian from New York and into theatre. His choice shows that he is cultured and is a deep thinker. After reading about Verdi and the "Macbeth" opera I might even be interested in buying the CD or if I can find it in record format. I have to admit that I am surprised about Mike Huckabee listening to Evanescence. This surprised me. They are a group from Little Rock. Personally, I would have thought that if he would of chosen an Arkansan artist or group it would have been Johnny Cash. I have never really listened to them. I have heard them on the radio and saw them on MTV. They aren't too bad. His choice shows that he is open to other ideas and thinks outside the box. Nor is he one dimensional. I think it is cool that Duncan Hunter, from California, would like country and gospel. I found that rather unpredictable. I guess when I think of Californians music choices I would think of old school surf or modern rock, nothing wrong with that. It shows that he is in tune with the average American. OK, for real, Beach Boys, that is predictable of John McCain. Maybe I wouldn't have thought that before his "Bomb, Bomb Iran" ditty. According to his choice, it looks like maybe the Beach Boys did do the parody of the song. Look back to my blog about the debates. It looks like the old dude has a fun side after all. I disagree with anyone who says that him knowing Beach Boys songs shows his age. When one listens to the Beach Boys they think of fun, sun, sand, surf and music. Their music is inter-generational classics. Mitt Romney listening to Roy Orbison, that is a BIG surprise. Anyone who is a fan of "Roy the Boy" would have to agree. I have just been inspired to switch from the Stray Cats CD to my Roy Orbison record. Back to Mitty. Roy Orbison was about the blue collar lifestyle and the hardships of the working man. "Uptown" he is singing about being a doorman in a fancy high-rise where he has the hots for one of the residents who lives there and he wants her to notice him. "Working for the Man" is a song about a miner who works for this rich dude. And he wants to become "the man" so he can get the daughter of the mine owner. Most of his songs are full of heartache and sorrow. He ends up losing the girl to some fancy-pants guy. Maybe this will make my feelings of Mitty soften. He can't be that bad of a guy if he likes "Roy the Boy". Roy's music speaks to my heart and gives me deep feeling in my gut. If ya sing along to many of his songs ya can't help but get teary eyed. Maybe someday I'll get to "Blue Bayou". I'm going back someday I want to see the those fish play on "Blue Bayou" to see my baby again and see some of my friends. The world will be mine on "Blue Bayou" to take away this hurtin inside. Those are not his exact words, it's just a feeling I get when I think about Corpus Christi, Texas. Frank Sinatra is an awesome choice for Tom Tancredo. His choice doesn't really fit what little I know about him, but who doesn't like "ol blue eyes"? This might say that Tom Tancredo is a layed back kinda guy who keeps his cool under pressure. Frank Sinatra music is the kind that just makes one want to fix a martini and sit back, relax and not worry.

Why "I Like Mike"

Mike Huckabee is a former governor Arkansas, from 1996-2007. This is not a big political state, in terms of national politics. Before he was governor he was a Baptist pastor. He does not shove his faith down anyone's throats. While at the same time he is not afraid to speak about his own faith and how it affects him in his everyday life. Mr. Huckabee knows what life is like for the working class, having been born to a working class family. He is down to earth and honest. His pro-life stance has never wavered. Nor are his beliefs due to living up to the status quo. It is the real deal. Music and arts education in the schools is a passion for him. He cares about the poor, without giving handouts. While governor he reduced the welfare roles by half.

There are some narrow minded Clinton bashing Republicans who may not give him a chance due to the fact that he is from Arkansas. As someone who has a grandfather from Arkansas I do not like it when people bash Bill Clinton because of what state he is from. It is quite fine to criticize Mr. Clinton for his policies while in the White House. The fact that Mr. Huckabee is from Arkansas should be a positive not a negative. He was a citizen of the state during Clinton's time as governor. Of all the Republican candidates he is most likely to predict any tricks from Hillary Clinton without resorting to dirty tricks. When, not if, Mike Huckabee becomes the parties nominee he will defeat Hillary through sheer honesty of the issues.

Introduction

My name is Kathy. I had started a blog Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas a few months ago on my genealogy website. I went for quite a while without writing anything. At first there wasn't much to write about him since the media wasn't getting the word out about this wonderful candidate who is running for the Republican nominee for the '08 Presidential race. Now he is all over on the TV and plenty of print interviews.
I have now started this new blog. I promise to write more about him, general political opinions along with goings on in the great state of Michigan, and music too! I feel this is a better venue to write about politics than on my former blog. Most people are not looking for political commentary in a genealogy website.
