Hobbies for Huckabee

I started a new blog about sewing and hobbies and Mike Huckabee. It will be focused on creativity and Mike Huckabee's support of arts and music. I have already posted an introduction over at Hobbies for Huckabee. Take time to read it and if you want to participate I would like to make this a community blog.

Huckabee, Gingrich and McCain-Feingold (and Romney)

There is a Michigan blogger that I like to read on occasion, American Princess. Today I found this post, talking about McCain being behind why Newt can't run for president, and most importantly why Mike Huckabee could not fly to Mac Isle. I will include just the things about Mike, but I encourage you to check out the post, along with reading her whole blog.
The Real Reason Behind McCain-Feingold

  • On Mackinac, there's a strip of runway where people can land their private planes. When Mike Huckabee missed his hopper to the island, he was going to have to charter a jet, and with Mitt Romney unwilling to share, was going to have to foot the $15,000 bill himself. Why? Well, because according to McCain-Feingold, he'd blown his one, well-crafted shot at travel expenses and now he was wholly depended on the cash in his pocked to make his lunchdate.
Just today, Newt Gingrich found out that McCain's campaign finance reform was standing in the way of his finding solutions and actually implementing them as the leader of the free world
  • So, first Huckabee and now Newt...is the Republican's lagging candidate subversively destroying everyone who dares to challenge him for the nod through a carefully crafted decades long initiative to replace existing campaign finance laws with ones he could foresee as being destructive?

In case you missed what I put in bold, here it is again, Mitt Romney unwilling to share

Oh, you missed it? OK, here it is again, larger. Mitt Romney unwilling to share

In case your tired, larger yet. Mitt Romney unwilling to share

Better? Well of course Mitt was unwilling to share. He knew that Mike Huckabee would be at the Dollar-a-Day reception to be able to mingle with Michigan's monied Republicans. He knew that Mike Huckabee was expected to speak at the same lunch as him. He knows Mike is a better speaker than him. He knew that even though most of the people who had meal tickets to said lunch were going to see him, Mike would steal the show. The fence sitters, the ones who wanted to hear everyone at every meal to be able to make up their minds, including some Mitt fans would go to Huckabee like bees to honey.

I tell you what, even if Mike Huckabee talked about nothing more than his hunting trips with his dog and how his dog chases it's tail, for the allotted fifteen minutes Mike would have had a better speech than Mitt's droning on for thirty minutes. Any of you who were at that luncheon, we have both John Boy and Mitty-poo to thank for having to listen to Mitt speak for half and hour instead of fifteen minutes. How about a big hearty smart alack THANK YOU!

I feel much better knowing more of the details about Mike not making it. I am working on a post about my visit to the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. It is very wordy, with quite a few pics, so it is taking a while. But I thought I would drop in to let ya know about this. Again, check out the full post from American Princess.

God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

Disclaimer: While my post ripped on Mitt, that is not what her post was doing. She is ripping on McCain.

Huckabee Notes of Interest

Here is some video of Mike Huckabee talking about where the GOP has been, where it's at, where it could be going in regards to Civil Rights, fifty years after Little Rock Nine.

Watch the video of last night's debate, here. Mike Huckabee had a great performance. But what's new?

Mike Huckabee on Foriegn Policy.

  • Mike Huckabee on Foriegn Policy;
  • September 28, 2007
    NEWS RELEASE:
MIKE HUCKABEE DELIVERS MAJOR FOREIGN POLICY SPEECH IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
Washington, D.C. – Former AR Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee delivered the following speech, “Paths and Priorities in the War on Terror,” at a foreign policy forum hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C. this morning.
The following text is a copy of his prepared remarks as written:
“Saying American foreign policy needs a change in tone and attitude, or an opening up and a reaching out, is as obvious as saying O. J. Simpson might be having a bad month. This Administration’s bunker mentality has been counter-productive both at home and abroad. They have done as poor a job of communicating and consulting with other countries as they have with the American people.
“A more successful foreign policy begins at home with better communication to the American people about Islamic terror. Six years after 9/11, it is still difficult for us, with our religious tolerance, our separation of church and state, to grasp how these people think. After we attend different churches on Sunday, or no church, Americans share meals or movies -- we don’t slaughter each other. We have thrived on our diversity – religious, ethnic, racial -- to become the world’s only superpower. We don’t merely tolerate diversity, we embrace and celebrate it. To Islamic extremists, the concept of a melting pot is as alien as the concept of a theocracy is to us. It takes an enormous leap of imagination to understand what these people are about, that they really do want to kill every last one of us and destroy civilization as we know it.
“The Administration has never done an adequate job explaining the theology and ideology behind Islamic terror, never done an adequate job of convincing us of their ruthless fanaticism. The first rule of war is “Know your enemy,” and most Americans don’t. To grasp the magnitude of the threat, we first have to understand what makes Islamic terrorists – and their suicide bombs – tick, and the Administration has not explained it well. Very few Americans are familiar with the writings of Sayyid Qutb, the Egyptian radical executed in 1966, and the Muslim Brotherhood, whose call to active jihad, influenced bin Laden and the rise of Al Qaeda. Qutb is to bin Laden as Karl Marx is to Lenin. Qutb raged against the decadence and sin he saw around him and sought to restore what he considered the “pure” Islam of the seventh century. Besides opposing non-Muslims, besides opposing Shiites, he was a Sunni who opposed Sunni governments because he believed they required their citizens to worship them like “gods,” and so were guilty of a polytheism forbidden by Islam. To him, the only answer was a return to a theocratic caliphate without national borders, and he saw nothing decadent or sinful in murder to achieve that end. Americans, who go to extreme lengths to save lives, can’t comprehend human beings who delight in taking lives, it just doesn’t compute. In our culture, the death of a child is about the worst trial a person can endure, while parents of suicide bombers feel joy, not grief. We believe that every individual has intrinsic worth and value. This culture of life is a cornerstone of our society, illuminated by the conflict with the Islamic jihadists and their culture of death.
“It is also difficult for us, with our culture of assimilation, to understand that life for European Muslims is different from life for American Muslims. Muslims in Britain or the Netherlands or Germany are second-class citizens because those countries have more homogenous populations that don’t readily integrate outsiders. Instead of melting pots, Europe has separate pots boiling over with alienation and despair. In some countries, like France, it is more a lack of economic integration, while in others, like Britain, it is more a lack of cultural integration, but whatever the reason, Europe is a much more fertile breeding ground for terror than the United States. Unintentionally, some of our closest allies are producing some of our clearest threats. Because of our special relationship with Britain and all our similarities with them, most Americans don’t realize that it is very different to be a Muslim citizen of Britain than a Muslim citizen of the United States, so we have trouble accepting that doctors in Britain become terrorists. We have to understand that while educated Muslims in Europe may not be materially deprived, many of them feel socially and emotionally deprived by a lack of acceptance. Earlier this month we saw the arrest of German citizens plotting a terror attack against American targets there. Also this month we saw Danish citizens arrested for plotting an imminent bombing. Both plots had links to Al Qaeda.

Fair Tax at Mac Isle

I found this report from FairTax.org about their visit to the Mackinac Leadership Conference.

  • Every other year, the Michigan Republican Party holds a Republican leadership conference on beautiful Mackinac Island. The Island is located in Lake Michigan and is situated in full view of the Mackinac Bridge that connects Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas. Because the presidential primaries are approaching, the candidates identified this as a desirable event to attend to win favor with Michigan Republican leaders and activists. Our objective at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference was to be visible everywhere all the time. We wanted the presidential candidates, their staffs, Republican leaders, activists, and the media to understand the amount of support there is in Michigan for the FairTax. We wanted to be at every conference meeting and hospitality event with our FairTax signs, T-shirts, hats, lapel stick-on labels, bumper stickers, literature, etc. We also wanted to engage attendees in conversation about the FairTax in our effort to educate them, answer questions, and obtain their active support. We especially wanted to inform attendees about the two workshops, "Perspectives on Tax Policy," in which we directly participated. Pat Toomey from the Club for Growth, John Berthoud from the National Taxpayers Union, Grover Norquist from Americans for Tax Reform, Michigan Representative Fulton Sheen, and I served as panelists, and all but Grover Norquist are FairTaxers. I had worked with the Michigan Republican Party to invite most of the panelists. It was an unqualified success! We had the Island and every event covered with FairTax activists identified with signs, T-shirts, hats, lapel stick-on labels, and our tax perspectives workshop was attended by approximately 400 Republican activists (second only in attendance to the Newt Gingrich workshop). At our workshop, the FairTax emerged as the best solution for Michigan and America. Grover was selling his flat income tax and expressed concerns about a national sales tax. I appreciated the opportunity to answer his predictable concerns. It was almost like I had asked him to express his concerns so that I and the other panelists could hit his concerns out of the ballpark -- which we did. Michigan FairTaxers drove great distances and spent their own money and time to participate in this premier political event. All but two presidential candidates attended, and they couldn't miss our organized FairTaxers. I was delighted to have Marilyn Rickert, Rich Johns, and a couple of their volunteers (Beryl Nichols and Barbara Wilson from Illinois and Ohio, respectively) attend to help, as we had to man the vendor tables while covering many simultaneous events. We had about 250 people working with us, and it took every one of them to cover every event in such a way as to have it appear that the FairTax was dominant at every event at the conference.
Many presidential candidates' staff members attended our workshops, and the candidates saw us every time they turned their heads. Jeri Thompson (wife of Fred Thompson) told our state internal communications director that she was impressed by the organization by us at the conference and how polite and nice the FairTax volunteers were. We educated a lot of influential people in Michigan, and many top political leaders now want to meet with us to discuss the FairTax. The supplies provided by AFFT were essential to our visibility and success, and we look forward to continuing to push the FairTax “primary strategy” in Michigan!

Mike Huckabee Embarassed for the GOP and Cndidates who Didn't Show Up

Here is some coverage of last night's debate.

  • BALTIMORE — Republican presidential candidates discussed the importance of reaching out to people of color during a minority issues debate Thursday night and criticized the leading four Republican contenders for skipping it.
"I think this is a disgrace that they are not here," said Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback. "I think it's a disgrace to our country. I think it's bad for our party, and I don't think it's good for our future."
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said he was "embarrassed for our party, and I'm embarrassed for those who didn't come."
The four no-shows — former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — cited scheduling conflicts in saying they could not attend the debate at historically black Morgan State University.
"Fortunately, there are those in the Republican Party who do understand the importance of reaching out to people of color," said talk show host Tavis Smiley, the debate moderator, thanking the six other candidates for participating.
Besides Brownback and Huckabee, the other candidates who participated in the debate were: Reps. Duncan Hunter of California, Ron Paul of Texas and Tom Tancredo of Colorado, and conservative activist Alan L. Keyes.
The forum, which had black and Hispanic journalists questioning the candidates, was broadcast live on the Public Broadcasting Service.
The candidates answered questions ranging from what they would do to help minorities, their views on illegal immigration, the war in Iraq, minority unemployment rates and their position on capital punishment.
Huckabee said he would want his legacy in helping minorities to be more equal treatment for them in the criminal justice system. Brownback said he would continue to push for the National Museum of African-American History and Culture in Washington. Keyes spoke of bringing more religious values into schools.

Funny Picture of Ted Kennedy

I thought I would share this funny picture of Ted Kennedy included in a transcript for Glenn Beck's radio program about popcorn lung.
  • GLENN: Popcorn lung is something that Ted Kennedy is fighting, and me personally, I love this. Exposure to microwave popcorn additive linked to a deadly lung disease that has been swiftly regulated under a bill passed on Wednesday, defined the White House veto threat. So I just want to make sure that I understand this. The house has passed a bill on popcorn lung, something that I've never heard of until about a week ago. Have you heard of this, Stu, popcorn lung?STU: I heard -- no, I don't think so.GLENN: It was about a week ago that we fist heard, well, maybe a couple of weeks.
Popcorn lung is something that Ted Kennedy is fighting... well that and obesity.
STU: It's a great name. Let me be honest. It's a fantastic name. It's a horrible disease perhaps but a fantastic name. GLENN: And if I'm not mistaken, the Bush administration is being criticized by the Democrats because of their insistence on not pushing OSHA for stiffer regulations on popcorn lung, and this had been identified several years ago in popcorn workers in Missouri, Iowa, Ohio, New Jersey and Illinois, and scientists say that popcorn lung is -- I'm quoting -- astonishingly grotesque and it's all from popcorn.

Mike Huckabee Clears the Record

From Mike Huckabee's blog page, post regarding misinformation.

  • Little Rock, AR -- Former AR Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee today issued the following statement in response to a news story stating that he is "open to state-sponsored civil unions that would bestow the legal rights of marriage on gay and lesbian couples":
  • "This report is simply inaccurate. I do not support legal recognition of alternative unions. I strongly, firmly and unequivocally believe that the traditional definition of marriage is for 'one man, one woman, for life.' That is why I worked hard in Arkansas to enact legislation at the state level to protect traditional marriage, and why I have vowed to work hard for federal language as President.
  • "While I believe that people have a right to decide how they live their personal lives, they have to respect not changing the definition of marriage."

While I believe in the sanctity of marriage and I wholeheartedly believe Mike Huckabee believes in the sanctity of marriage, I have never really talked about this aspect of Mike Huckabee. I am too poor to really care about who's fooling with who. I believe marriage should be limited to one man and one woman. But when someone spreads such a lie about Mike Huckabee I wanted to post Mike Huckabee setting the record straight.

In fact when I was in Iowa, some lady came up to the booth and said "I heard Mike Huckabee is for civil unions." I told her this was untrue and to check out what Mike truly believes in regards to the sanctity of marriage on his website. I also asked where she heard that and she said she got something in the mail. I asked her who sent it. She said she didn't know. I had heard that just before the straw poll rivals were sending negative info about the candidates. So I am guessing this is coming from a scared rival of Mike Huckabee's.

Newt Speaks Up

Well, my local PBS affiliate has "Outdoor Michigan" on, not the debate. Anyhoo, I am channel surfing. I came across Hannity and Colmes. I caught the end of Newt Gingrich being interviewed. Hannity went off saying to Newt, "You have said nice stuff about Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Fred Thompson." Newt says, "Oh, I have also talked about Mike Huckabee." Sean didn't want to hear it. But Newt was saying that Mike Huckabee has great ideas and he is a formidable candidate. I guess maybe Newt gave him a head slap during the break. After the next guest came on they were talking about Hillary Clinton. Sean mentioned the comment Mike Huckabee made about Hillary "kissing George Soros' backside." That was the first time I have heard Sean mention anything positive about Mike. Come on Sean, that was nice but start talking about more meatier issues regarding Mike Huckabee. I guess I will keep the channel on Glenn Beck.

Fall for Mike Huckabee

The Fall Season is upon us, and I would like to suggest that you "Fall(believe in) for Mike Huckabee," or get others to fall for Mike. Like many of you out there, I live in a small town. This time of year many small towns have Fall festivals, whether they be parades, town picnics, sidewalk sales, apple bobbing contests, largest pumpkin, etc. There is usually something going on with large crowds gathering. If you are fortunate enough to live in a tourist town you will see many people from far away towns and even states just to see your town's festivities. I live in such a town.
Now here's where "Fall for Mike Huckabee" comes in. Go to this link and print out as many push cards as you think you will need. Hand them out at your town's Fall events. I will be doing this at the Apple Days and Great Pumpkin Roll on Oct. 6. The Pumpkin Roll is fun and it is just what it says, ya roll a pumpkin down a hill. Many people and families will be there for all the festivities. The Apple Days has activities for mom, dad, big bro/sis, little bro/sis, baby bro/sis and even fun for grandma and grandpa!
This is perfect timing for Mike Huckabee's exposure. This is the Saturday before the Republican Michigan Debate. Most of the people who show up to this event don't usually go onto the computer to research political candidates. The Michigan tourists who will be there will find out about Mike Huckabee, get interested and when they watch him on the debate they will realize that he's the man. Also the out of state tourists will learn about Mike too. If you are thinking about planning a trip to the UP, come up that weekend and help hand out flyers. Probably not on the top of your list of vacation activities. Or ya can just do something in your town. Ask your friends, family or people in your church to help out.

BD Bopper's Donation Challenge

Check out this link to BDBopper's post on Oh Baby that's What I Like. He has a post for sports fans, but anyone can participate. Basically he is challenging all Huckabee supporters, regardless of what sports team you root for, to be a cheerleader and untite for Mike Huckabee. As a huge Rockabilly fan, I love both his nickname and blog name. That reminds me, I need to do another music post, possibly about JP "Big Bopper" Richardson.

Why I Still Like Ike

No that is not a misspelling. I Like Mike, but I thought I would bring this to the attention of anyone who is concerned with border security. I found this interesting article from the Christian Science Monitor. It is about how and why Dwight D. Eisenhower took care of the border issue in 1954. I am including the entire article.

Some people may think that what happened 53 years ago isn't important, but as you will see Ike did all this with less than one-tenth the amount of border agents. Dwight Eisenhower ardently stood up against corruption. That's how his words became actions. This country needs another Ike. This country needs someone who is honest, someone who is willing to ruffle feathers to do what is right and buck the "business as usual" system.

  • from the July 06, 2006 edition
How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico
By John Dillin WASHINGTON – George W. Bush isn't the first Republican president to face a full-blown immigration crisis on the US-Mexican border.
Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America's southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents - less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.
Although there is little to no record of this operation in Ike's official papers, one piece of historic evidence indicates how he felt. In 1951, Ike wrote a letter to Sen. William Fulbright (D) of Arkansas. The senator had just proposed that a special commission be created by Congress to examine unethical conduct by government officials who accepted gifts and favors in exchange for special treatment of private individuals.
General Eisenhower, who was gearing up for his run for the presidency, said "Amen" to Senator Fulbright's proposal. He then quoted a report in The New York Times, highlighting one paragraph that said: "The rise in illegal border-crossing by Mexican 'wetbacks' to a current rate of more than 1,000,000 cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government."
Years later, the late Herbert Brownell Jr., Eisenhower's first attorney general, said in an interview with this writer that the president had a sense of urgency about illegal immigration when he took office.
America "was faced with a breakdown in law enforcement on a very large scale," Mr. Brownell said. "When I say large scale, I mean hundreds of thousands were coming in from Mexico [every year] without restraint."
Although an on-and-off guest-worker program for Mexicans was operating at the time, farmers and ranchers in the Southwest had become dependent on an additional low-cost, docile, illegal labor force of up to 3 million, mostly Mexican, laborers.
According to the Handbook of Texas Online, published by the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas State Historical Association, this illegal workforce had a severe impact on the wages of ordinary working Americans. The Handbook Online reports that a study by the President's Commission on Migratory Labor in Texas in 1950 found that cotton growers in the Rio Grande Valley, where most illegal aliens in Texas worked, paid wages that were "approximately half" the farm wages paid elsewhere in the state.
Profits from illegal labor led to the kind of corruption that apparently worried Eisenhower. Joseph White, a retired 21-year veteran of the Border Patrol, says that in the early 1950s, some senior US officials overseeing immigration enforcement "had friends among the ranchers," and agents "did not dare" arrest their illegal workers.
Walt Edwards, who joined the Border Patrol in 1951, tells a similar story. He says: "When we caught illegal aliens on farms and ranches, the farmer or rancher would often call and complain [to officials in El Paso]. And depending on how politically connected they were, there would be political intervention. That is how we got into this mess we are in now."
Bill Chambers, who worked for a combined 33 years for the Border Patrol and the then-called US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), says politically powerful people are still fueling the flow of illegals.
During the 1950s, however, this "Good Old Boy" system changed under Eisenhower - if only for about 10 years.
In 1954, Ike appointed retired Gen. Joseph "Jumpin' Joe" Swing, a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, as the new INS commissioner.
Influential politicians, including Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson (D) of Texas and Sen. Pat McCarran (D) of Nevada, favored open borders, and were dead set against strong border enforcement, Brownell said. But General Swing's close connections to the president shielded him - and the Border Patrol - from meddling by powerful political and corporate interests.
One of Swing's first decisive acts was to transfer certain entrenched immigration officials out of the border area to other regions of the country where their political connections with people such as Senator Johnson would have no effect.
Then on June 17, 1954, what was called "Operation Wetback" began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.
By mid-July, the crackdown extended northward into Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, and eastward to Texas.
By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.
Unlike today, Mexicans caught in the roundup were not simply released at the border, where they could easily reenter the US. To discourage their return, Swing arranged for buses and trains to take many aliens deep within Mexico before being set free.
Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships, the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships ferried the aliens from Port Isabel, Texas, to Vera Cruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles south.
The sea voyage was "a rough trip, and they did not like it," says Don Coppock, who worked his way up from Border Patrolman in 1941 to eventually head the Border Patrol from 1960 to 1973.
Mr. Coppock says he "cannot understand why [President] Bush let [today's] problem get away from him as it has. I guess it was his compassionate conservatism, and trying to please [Mexican President] Vincente Fox."
There are now said to be 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the US. Of the Mexicans who live here, an estimated 85 percent are here illegally.

Also, check this out.

  • Border Patrol vets offer tips on curbing illegal immigration
One day in 1954, Border Patrol agent Walt Edwards picked up a newspaper in Big Spring, Texas, and saw some startling news. The government was launching an all-out drive to oust illegal aliens from the United States.
The orders came straight from the top, where the new president, Dwight Eisenhower, had put a former West Point classmate, Gen. Joseph Swing, in charge of immigration enforcement.
General Swing's fast-moving campaign soon secured America's borders - an accomplishment no other president has since equaled. Illegal migration had dropped 95 percent by the late 1950s.
Several retired Border Patrol agents who took part in the 1950s effort, including Mr. Edwards, say much of what Swing did could be repeated today.
"Some say we cannot send 12 million illegals now in the United States back where they came from. Of course we can!" Edwards says.
Donald Coppock, who headed the Patrol from 1960 to 1973, says that if Swing and Ike were still running immigration enforcement, "they'd be on top of this in a minute."
William Chambers, another '50s veteran, agrees. "They could do a pretty good job" sealing the border.
Edwards says: "When we start enforcing the law, these various businesses are, on their own, going to replace their [illegal] workforce with a legal workforce."
While Congress debates building a fence on the border, these veterans say other actions should have higher priority.
    1. End the current practice of taking captured Mexican aliens to the border and releasing them. Instead, deport them deep into Mexico, where return to the US would be more costly.
    2. Crack down hard on employers who hire illegals. Without jobs, the aliens won't come.
    3. End "catch and release" for non-Mexican aliens. It is common for illegal migrants not from Mexico to be set free after their arrest if they promise to appear later before a judge. Few show up.
The Patrol veterans say enforcement could also be aided by a legalized guest- worker program that permits Mexicans to register in their country for temporary jobs in the US. Eisenhower's team ran such a program. It permitted up to 400,000 Mexicans a year to enter the US for various agriculture jobs that lasted for 12 to 52 weeks.

There will be more Ike articles to come soon. Please read and ask yourself if we need someone like Ike again.

Gotta Love this quote!

Huckabee slams Clinton on Petraeus vote

  • WASHINGTON, 25 (UPI) -- Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Republican presidential hopeful, said Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., will be the Democratic Party candidate for 2008.
  • However, in an interview with The Washington Times, Huckabee slammed Clinton for not voting for a Senate resolution last week condemning an ad in The New York Times by the Moveon.org political group that criticized U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus' performance as top commander in Iraq.
  • Clinton wasn't among the 22 Democrats who voted in favor of condemning the attack, although on Sunday television interviews, she condemned it.Referring to billionaire philanthropist and political activist George Soros, one of Moveon.org's benefactors, Huckabee lashed out Clinton in the interview.
  • "If you can't get your lips off the backside of George Soros long enough to use those lips to say it's wrong to declare a sitting general ... guilty of treason, how would you ever expect to have the support of the very military you might have to send into deadly battle?" Huckabee told the Times.

Don't ya just love that quote? It is so dead on correct.

Newt's Terrific Video from Mackinac Island

Since I believe in giving credit where credit is due, this was uploaded to Google by Nick from RightMichigan.com. In this video Newt Gingrich is speaking to attendees at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.

Newt Gingrich Talks about Michigan and Iranian President Mahmoud "IdiotJob"

I recieved this email from Joel Westrom, 1St District Chairman. It is Newt Gingrich talking about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at Columbia and Michigan along with other important issues.

  • Iranian Free Speech: Only in America ; and Learning From the World That Fails by Newt Gingrich (more by this author) Posted 09/25/2007 ET
I don't know if you saw it, but the decision of Columbia University to invite Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak in their "distinguished" lecturer series took a truly bizarre turn last week. Seeking to justify the soapbox Columbia has given to a man who is actively engaged in killing American troops in Iraq , Columbia Dean of International and Public Affairs John Coatsworth told Fox News that even Adolph Hitler would have been invited to speak at Columbia .
Well, across town from Columbia in New York City is the New School , another institution of higher learning. I was with the New School 's President, former U.S. Democratic Senator from Nebraska Bob Kerrey, yesterday morning. As the protests over Ahmadinejad's speech raged, he had some powerful things to say about what the New School could teach Columbia about history, about the real meaning of free speech and about common decency.
Could Hitler Come to the New School? 'Yes, If He Was Dead.'
By way of history, you should know that the New School is a university that from its very founding has been dedicated to academic freedom and democracy.

During the 1930s, the New School was a haven for intellectuals and artists who had been banished by the dictatorships of Hitler and Mussolini.
And after World War II, the New School was the first academic institution to establish a program designed specifically for returning soldiers to complete their education. For those who had sacrificed to serve their country, the New School offered the opportunity to get ahead in civilian life tuition-free. It remains today an all scholarship college.
And so it came as no surprise that when I asked New School President Kerrey if he would have allowed Adolph Hitler to come on his campus, his reply was powerfully blunt:
    "Yes, if he was dead."
It's a standard that I agree with wholeheartedly. It's too bad that the leadership of Columbia University hasn't learned the lesson of the New School : America honors freedom of expression by being a refuge for the oppressed, not by giving a soapbox to the oppressors. This is not about free speech, the Iranian dictator can stand on any
New York City streetcorner and say what he wishes, but we do not need to legitimize his hate-filled holocaust-denying diatribes by giving him a platform at a "distinguished" lecturer series at Columbia .
Learning From the World That Fails
If the Iranian dictator's speech at Columbia is an example of one institution's failure to learn, there is an opportunity coming up later this week for all of us to learn how to change our country.

You've heard me talk before about Solutions Day, coming up this Thursday and Saturday, and how we're going to focus on moving our government from the world that fails to the world that works.
Last weekend, I went to a state that illustrates better than any other state in the union the consequences for real people -- real families, real jobs, real lives -- when government is mired in the world that fails.
Will the Last One to Leave Michigan Please Turn Out the Lights?
In 1950, Michigan was one of the most prosperous states in America . There were 1,800,000 people in Detroit , and Detroiters enjoyed the highest per capita income of any large city in the country.

Today, Michigan is an economic basket case. Its unemployment rate is a crushing 7.2 percent -- the highest in the nation. And to make matters worse, Michigan taxes are higher than the national average.
So with no jobs and high taxes, it's no surprise that Michiganders are going elsewhere to live and work. Its population is declining so much that the wry joke in Michigan is that the last one to leave please turn out the lights.
Michigan and the Virtual Circle of the World That Works
But there is a way forward for Michigan . It's not complicated, and it's not theoretical. It's a simple story, taken from Michigan 's recent history, of government in the world that works.
When former Gov. John Engler (R.) was leading Michigan , its economic outlook was much different. Gov. Engler brought Michigan to 3.2 percent unemployment, the lowest unemployment rate in the state's history. And he did so while cutting taxes and controlling spending.
And Gov. Engler did something else that was critical to Michigan 's prosperity: During his time as governor, Michigan regained its AAA bond rating. The reason this is critical is because a state's bond rating determines how much its taxpayers pay on the state's debt. The better the rating, the less taxpayers pay. The less taxpayers pay, the more money is available for tax cuts or other priorities.
It's the virtual circle of prosperity of the world that works: Lower taxes means more jobs means higher revenue from a bigger economy means controlled spending means a better bond rating. And a better bond rating means a lower cost of debt which means more money available for lower taxes which means the creation of even more jobs.
'Like a Teenager Getting a Credit Card and Not Realizing He Has to Pay'
That's the world that works. Now we get to the world that fails.
In 11 short months after gaining power, Democrats in Michigan managed to lose the AAA bond rating. As I told my audience of Michigan Republicans gathered on Mackinac Island last weekend, it was like a teenager getting a credit card and not realizing that he has to pay. (You can view the entire speech here.)
So, today, Michigan is in the virtual circle of the world that fails: It's losing jobs, losing people and losing money, and now it has to pay even more to service its debt.
And, predictably in the world that fails, the solution that Democrats in Lansing are proposing is a huge tax increase to close the gap between the state's higher costs and declining revenues.
Higher taxes are precisely what Michigan does not need right now. So far, the battle over the tax increase has been a fairly partisan one -- with a Democratic majority in the legislature and a Democratic governor pushing for the taxes, and Republicans, under the leadership of state party Chairman Saul Anuzis and others, pushing for lower spending.
But this doesn't have to be a partisan battle. The guiding principles of the world that works aren't red versus blue. They're red, white and blue. Michigan simply needs to do what we know works and have the courage to carry it out.
    Solutions Day Begins This Thursday
The same problems that effect government in Lansing today effect government, to a greater or lesser degree, virtually everywhere in America .

Solutions Day, which begins this Thursday, will be a genuinely bipartisan opportunity for Americans to move government -- from the level of school boards and city councils all the way up to Congress and the White House -- from the world that fails to the world that works.
These events get underway in just two days, including:

Roy Romer, a Democrat who is the former governor of Colorado and superintendent of schools in Los Angeles , will be giving a workshop on reforming public schools.
Elaine Kamarck, the head of President Bill Clinton's reinventing government initiative, will give a workshop on reducing the bureaucracy.
Former FDA Commissioner Mark McClellan will lead a discussion on creating a 21st-Century intelligent health system.
Congressman Brian Bilbray (R.) of California will broadcast from the border on enforcement first in the illegal immigration debate.
Solutions Day will be this and much, much more. For more information and to sign up, just visit AmericanSolutions.com or call 866-580-6398 (866-580-NEWT).

A Radical View: American States Shouldn't Fail
As you know, I have a very radical view of our government: Levies shouldn't fail, bridges shouldn't fall and states shouldn't lose their citizens.

The effort that my organization, American Solutions, is putting forward this week draws on my experience working with Gov. Reagan, candidate Reagan and President Reagan -- developing over a 16-year period a plan to create a Republican majority in the House of Representatives and ultimately creating the Contract with America and being speaker of the House.
Experience has taught me that if we care about future generations, it is the duty of this generation -- now -- to be committed to real change.
Thursday is an historic opportunity to begin that change. It's our chance to give our children and grandchildren a country that is as safe, prosperous, innovative and free as the country our parents and grandparents worked and fought to give us.
    I hope you'll join us.
    Newt Gingrich
  • P.S. -- You may have noticed that the media has been persistent in asking if I will run for President in 2008. I have consistently said I will not even begin thinking about such a race until after the American Solutions workshops this week.
As I detailed above, American Solutions is developing a broad set of nonpartisan solutions for all 513,000 elected officials across America . Its polls are available with equal access for Democrats, Republicans and independents. And American Solutions workshops are available for free to all citizens without regard to party affiliation. Democrats, Republicans and libertarians are giving workshops on September 29.
In short, American Solutions is not a campaign but a movement.
Because there has been so much speculation about a possible candidacy, I have asked my friend and adviser Randy Evans to consult with people after the workshops, but not before.
My most likely course of action will be to focus on creating a series of state solution programs (we had great response to the idea of a nonpartisan solutions in Michigan last weekend) and to begin preparing both for a series of bold new initiatives in developing training, education and collaborative tools on the Internet and beginning to develop a vastly larger and more comprehensive second annual American Solutions Day for September 2009.
If Randy Evans reports such overwhelming interest in a candidacy that we have to think about a different future, I will report to you promptly.
Until then, you can rest assured that I am focused on solutions and not campaigns.

Arkansas Republican Assemblies Has a Post about the Little Rock Nine Fiftieth Anniversary

Commemorating 50th Anniversary of the integration of Little Rock Central High School
by U.S. Rep. John Boozman (R-AR): On Sept. 25th, our state – and our nation – recognized nine brave men and women who, when they were teenagers, came forward to claim their Constitutional right to an equal education despite protests, threats of violence and even the Arkansas National Guard. This date is not only a red-letter date in our state’s history, but a seminal event in the movement to unite our country as truly one people, indivisible.Fifty years ago, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Thelma Mothershed, Melba Pattillo, Gloria Ray, Terrence Roberts, Jefferson Thomas, and Carlotta Walls, climbed the steps of Central High School. Few other moments in our history can compare to the ascent made by the Little Rock Nine. It was an ascent to a new plateau in the relations of Americans to their fellow citizens and a new plateau on the path to the American we now know. On Sept. 25, 1957, when the Nine made it to the top of those Central High School steps, they stood in a place where, up till that point, others said they could not go. Then, they did what was, in fact, the most important thing that day: They went inside to learn. While Central High School will always be the event at the forefront of our memories when it comes to the history of desegregation, it is my hope that, as we remember the Nine, we can also remember the other schools in our state which preceded them, including Fayetteville, Hoxie, and the community of Charleston – who first broke down the barrier in Arkansas on Aug. 23, 1954. As we spend this day reflecting on our past, we should remember all the brave children, families, and educators across the state that – by their courage – set in motion a chain of events which created the Arkansas of the present and will resonate in the Arkansas of the future. 40TH Anniversary Transcript

I found the transcript, on the campaign website, from when Mike Huckabee spoke at the 40Th Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine, in 1997. This is a must read! Honest words from an honest man! I have embolden some of the important words.

  • The following is Governor Huckabee's speech from the 40Th Anniversary of the Central High School Integration Crisis back in 1997.
Thank you very much, mayor, Mr. President, Mrs. Clinton.
We welcome the world to Arkansas today because 40 years ago the world watched as a most unfortunate event happened on this very campus. Forty years ago there was a lot of tension that filled the air in Little Rock, Ark., and on the campus of Central High School. And today we come back exactly 40 years later and we recognize that there is still some tension.
There were those who perhaps hoped this event wouldn't take place because it only might open up old wounds. But we come today because it is important to have tension every now and then. After all, it is tension that builds our muscles and gives us strength. And if it is necessary for us to have some tension in order that we can change things, then tension can be a very necessary and positive thing for us.
In the Proverbs it says that "he who conceals his sins does not prosper. But whoever professes and renounces them will find mercy." Today, we come to confront the pain of the past, to celebrate the perseverance of some very courageous people and to continue the path to prosperity.
It is important that we confront the pain of the past because, frankly, there are some times when as we look back on our history we are disturbed, and we ought to be disturbed. The children of Israel wandered for 40 years in the wilderness, and in many ways Arkansas and the rest of the nation has wandered for 40 years in the wilderness as it relates to race relations.
Essentially, it's not just a skin problem, it's a sin problem. Because we in Arkansas have wandered around in ambiguity, all kinds of explanations and justifications. And I think today we come to say once and for all that what happened here 40 years ago was simply wrong. It was evil, and we renounce it.
What the people did who tried to hold those nine from entering the doors of this high school may be forgivable, but it is not excusable. I remember those photos, and they will always haunt me as I look back and see the faces of those teenagers -- the same age as my own children -- and realize those teenagers were simply reflecting the values and the teachings they got at home. And what is really tragic that we today come to renounce is the fact that in many parts of the South it was the white churches that helped not only ignore the problems of racism, but in many cases actually fostered those feelings and sentiments. And today, we call upon every church, every pulpit, every synagogue, every mosque in every part of Arkansas and the rest of the world to say never, never, never, never again will we be silent when people's rights are at stake.
We come today to celebrate the perseverance of some extraordinary people. The nine who have been introduced today had the courage to risk their very lives for an opportunity that the white students in Little Rock took for granted in 1957. And we celebrate them today.
But I'm so glad the mayor made mention of some heroes we often forget, and that's the parents of the Little Rock Nine. As a parent of a high school student here in this school, I will tell you that I often have anxiety about my daughter going to school, or my son, and the reason is very simple: I'm wondering if they are going to get into trouble, make bad grades, and that happens.
But I cannot even begin to imagine the anxiety on the part of the parents of the Little Rock Nine whose greatest fear was not that their son would come home having had an argument with a fellow student or a teacher, not the fear of coming home with an F, but the fear of never coming home because of a mob. That, my friends, is something that I cannot even begin to comprehend. But these brave parents not only had to comprehend it, they had to live with it. And they had to live with the deprivation -- economically and physically -- that they often faced because many of their lives were forever changed by those who haunted them and taunted them through levels of racism that we read about and see the photos of. Photos that we will never forget, and we shouldn't. We come today also to continue the path to prosperity. I say "the path" because we haven't arrived. And let's be very honest and very clear and very certain about it. We've come a long way in 40 years -- a long way. But we're not home yet. We're a long way from the time when we can say all things are as they should be. But we can also say that all things aren't as they once were, and that should give us hope and that should give us courage and that should give the commitment to continue on today.
I know that when Mayor Dailey and I sat down a little more than a year ago and first talked about what we hoped might be some way to commemorate the events of 40 years ago -- and I use the word commemorate, not celebrate -- we celebrate progress, but we don't celebrate what happened 40 years ago, but we mark it, and hopefully we move from it. But when we sat down, we had a great anxiety and fear that we would end up with little more than simple ceremonies and testimonies of those of us who are politicians coming to congratulate ourselves for all the things that we had done.
And I will tell you today what I believe is in the heart of every person on this platform, and I think I can say with genuine sincerity that none of us here would for one moment claim that we are the ones who have moved this generation in the 40 years so much as it is the courage of individual citizens like these parents, the Little Rock Nine and those who came after them. And for those white students at Little Rock Central who understood it was the right thing to do to welcome those classmates and to accept them and to receive them. And for every one of them who had to put up with the jeers and with the insults, a heartfelt thanks.
We celebrate the progress, but now we must navigate the future. Some have asked: how long are we going to deal with this Central crisis situation? Are we going to have to relive it every few years? And I know there were some who were frankly made to feel very uncomfortable about all of these activities because some felt that it would just resurrect feelings and anxieties. Well, let me tell you how long we will deal with it -- until justice is the same for every human being whether he or she is black or white, we will deal with it. Until the same rules apply to get a bank loan for every person regardless of who he or she is, we will deal with it. As long as there are whites who turn around and see a black person coming and bring fear to their hearts, we will deal with it. And as long as there are blacks who look and see and have resentment toward a white person, we will deal with it. We will deal with it until the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King lives in all of our hearts, and that is that we will judge people by the character of their hearts and not by the color of their skin.
Let me remind us: Government can do some things, but only God can change people's hearts. Government can put us in the same classrooms, but government can't make classmates go home and be friends when school is out. Government can make sure that the doors of every public building are open to everyone. Government can ensure that we share schools and streets and lunch counters and buses and elevators and theaters. But let us never forget that only God can give us the power to love each other and respect each other and share life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness with every American, regardless of who he or she is.
Today, as we dedicate the Little Rock Central Visitor Center, I will tell you that last Friday my daughter and I went there. We walked through that exhibit and it brought memories to me of the time when Sarah was 11 and we went through Yad Vashem in Jerusalem to visit that incredible place that is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust -- another one of our history's horrors. And as we went through Yad Vashem, she saw the pictures of the horrible treatment and of the extraordinary injustices of the evil that was marked by that time. I never will forget when we came to the end of that exhibit and there at the guest book, she stood and took my pen and started writing her name and address. And underneath there was a space for comments.
As long as I live I will remember as my daughter paused and then wrote words that will forever be in my mind. She wrote simple words. I wondered as we went through it, did she understand the message of it, did she get it? If there was any doubt, it was erased as I looked as those words. Because those words simply said, "Why didn't somebody do something? Why didn't somebody do something?"
In silence, we left and I knew she got it. Today, as the world once again revisits Little Rock and the great state of Arkansas and its great people, I hope that never, ever, ever does someone have to ask why didn't someone do something. As for those who go through that visitor center and may ask why didn't someone do something, I hope they will take a good, long look and realize that today we celebrate nine people who did do something.
God bless you, and God bless America.

Some people may think this is old news. Yes, it did happen 50 years ago. If we forget the bad that happens in history, history can repeat itself. We need to remember the good, the bad and the ugly of history so that the good can be repeated and the bad can never be repeated.

I really like what he has to say about government making the physical rules change, but only God can change hearts to make people see what is right. In summary, this is proof of two things about Mike Huckabee. One, God guides him in his life. Two, there is no possible way this was a scripted speech by a speech writer. This entire speech was Mike's own words, directly from his own heart. If you are new to the Huckabee wagon and/or you have not been sure if Mike Huckabee is "presidential", this speech should make everyone out there realize that Mike Huckabee is "presidential."

God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

RHatch's post about Dr. Land

Go over to read Buck for Huck and read his recent post about Dr. Land's views on Fred Thompson.

It's Official!

  • Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee Makes it Official

On the computer screen Republican candidate Mike Huckabee explained, “Somehow it escaped us to ever actually officially change the name of the committee over from 'exploratory' to 'election'.”
  • And with that, Mike Huckabee announced that his presidential exploratory committee is now officially an election committee. He made the announcement over an internet webcast from his headquarters in Little Rock.
  • Later Huckabee explained why he announced online, “We wanted to do something different. No candidate has ever done a 24-hour launch of a major campaign effort that was solely based on the internet using a whole variety of sources. And we thought it would also help us to drive a lot of traffic to the website and bring interest up.”

Huckabee: Bush wanted to be in Arkansas for Central celebration

Here is the first article I found for Mike Huckabee's attendance at the Little Rock Nine Fiftieth Anniversary.

  • LITTLE ROCK - Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee says President Bush likely would have attended ceremonies commemorating of the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of Central High School if he had not needed to be before the United Nations today.
The former Arkansas governor told reporters this morning in Little Rock, "he can only be in one place at one time." Huckabee also said that had Bush failed to travel to the U.N., he would have been criticized for that decision.Huckabee said "all eyes are on Little Rock" with the anniversary.
  • He also noted that his daughter Sarah attended Central while he was governor.
I will try to find more, meatier, articles tonight.

Tickets for the Michigan Debate

The new website adress for the October 9 Republican Debate in Dearborn, Michigan is www.migopdebate.org. I was checking it out and found out that people can fill out the online request form for tickets. Once you submit your info someone will let you know if a ticket will be available for you, by Oct 5. The webpage for the tickets is www.migopdebate.org/tickets.asp. Perhaps if enough Huckabee supporters obtain tickets we can all meet up to show our support.

What I Want to Wear to President Mike Huckabee's Innaugaration

I am taking a break from my sewing, again. Sometimes when I get bored I like to look at patterns and material online. I found this gorgeous vintage pattern for a formal dress. This is the dress I have had in my mind to wear to the Inaugural Ball. Yeah, I know it's a bit soon to start thinking about a dress, but formals take much longer than average dresses. Plus I have total confidence that Mike huckabee will be our next president. Here it is.

or...

Which do y'all like the best? For a limited time I can get one free pattern if I buy another. So I want to pick an everyday pattern and then get one of these free. Must get back to pajammies!

Check Out this Great Post!

The Vertical Day is Still going on at www.mikehauckabee.com. There is an artcile from Dr. Laurence White.

  • After months of coy flirting and media maneuvering former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson has finally admitted that he is running for president. He made it official - in a manner completely consistent with his style over substance approach to date - on the Jay Leno Show rather than the New Hampshire Presidential Candidate Debate held the same night. CNN reports today that on his first official day of campaigning in Iowa the core of his pitch was electability - he’s the man who can beat Hillary Clinton. (CNN “Thompson: I Can Stop Hillary Clinton” Thursday, September 6th, 2007) My response, as a Christian conservative who is deeply concerned about the future of this country, is “So wha t?” Beating Hillary Clinton is not good enough at this critical moment in America’s history. Thirty-four years into an abortion holocaust that has produced the slaughter of nearly fifty million defenseless infants we need more than an election victory. We need to transform American culture and put an end to abortion.
For years we have foolishly heeded the counsel of pragmatists who have advised us to be realistic and settle for Republican establishment candidates who promised us by and large pro-life judiciary appointments in return for our support. These guys don’t see abortion as a crucial factor in America’s future. They say as much about being “Pro-Life” as they have to pacify us during the primaries. But once they have been nominated they promptly head for the safety of the Center. After they are elected the same pattern prevails as abortion and the other controversial “social issues” are relegated to the back burner. That’s the way “politics as usual” works in this country. In the meantime the little ones continue to die and with them the soul of America is dying. The establishments of both of our political parties are complacent and corrupt. They care only for the continuation and expansion of their own power. There is no possibility of ending abortion as long as Christians are content to continue to play “politics as usual.” ite about the election not being about "electability."

Anyways, continue checking out the Vertical Day until 11am. I have been trying to finish some pajamas bottoms since 2:00am Monday. I should have been done by now, it's been more than 24 hours. I want to get started on the top today. I will check back in soon.

Important Presidential Survey

Today I got this letter from the Michigan Republican Party about a Presidential Survey. It asks two questions. One is "who will be the toughest Democrat to beat in Michigan?". The second question asks "Which Republican candidate for President has the best chance of winning Michigan's 17 Electoral Votes?". If you get this in the mail fill it out and send in by Oct. 13. Let the Michigan Republican Party know that you think Mike Huckabee can beat Hillary Clinton. If you are not from Michigan or are from Michigan but not on the mailing list you can go onto this webpage and you can vote there. I already checked it out. You do need to pay $5 dollars and of course give them your address and contact info. On the fill in for states all fifty states are represented for click on choices, plus armed forces. So I am asuming this means anyone can vote.

Going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

As we all know there is the Vertical Day going on at http://www.mikehuckabee.com/. But I want to put a spotlight on some of those behind the scenes. Earlier this afternoon I had posted the photo of Mike Huckabee speaking at the Fortieth Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine. I want to post it again. I was cleaning out my inbox and clicked on the forwarded email from Chris Maiorana again. In the forwarding conversation the picture can be traced back to a jpeg from video media from one of the local TV stations in Little Rock. When I asked if there was an available pic from this event, I just assumed that if I would receive anything it would be somewhere along the lines of a still photo that was in Mike Huckabee's archives or in Arkansas Government Archives. I never expected anyone to go to such lengths. All of you out there reading this please give a huge hand clap to all the people who went above and beyond what would be expected of them. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Imagine seeing Mike Huckabee behind that Presidential Podium again. Next time it won't be because another guy is president. It will be because Mike will be president.

After the Vertical Day is done I might start a reader interactive Michigan Project.

Mike Huckabee's Former Classmate Talks about Mike's Character and Personality

Have you been checking the Huckabee website today about the Vertical Day? If not, start now. On the blog page I found a really cool post by Dr. Larry Sitzes. He talks about what type of kid Mike was growing up and about Mike's character.

  • What can I say about Michael Dale Huckabee that you don't know?
  • Depends on how well you know him. I don't find any unbiased person whoknows Mike saying anything negative about him. Mike is truly the sametoday as he was yesterday, last year, 40 years ago.
  • Mike doesn't have a preacher face, a politician face, a hunter andfisherman face or a marathon runner face. He is just Mike all of the time.
  • Does he like to have fun? Oh, we had lots of that in grade school, junior high, high school and college. Having Mike in your classroommade the time pass faster. He and his friends were famous for doing original and witty things. I don't remember ever doing anything to hurt anyone's feelings purposely. We did have some fun at ourteacher's and school administrator's expense though. Mike is very good at impressions!
  • We had so much fun radio broadcasting high school football andbasketball games. Mike found ways to make it entertaining for thelisteners even if the game was a little dull.
  • Looking back to high school I really don't remember our fellow students being considered as rich, poor or whatever. With Mike we werejust all the same. Mike encouraged that attitude by his actions, setting the example for everyone.
  • What have I seen him NEVER do? Lie. Never, ever, ever. Even when it would have been easy to tell a"white lie". I'm sure this characteristic came from his family's influence. I still dare anyoneto prove that Mike has told a lie. There's been no takers, anywhere, anytime.
  • Do you know Mike Huckabee? I hope you do. If not, I hope you cansomeday. He is the real deal, every day.
  • Dr. Lester Sitzes III
  • Best Friend then, now and later.
  • Hope, AR

Newt is Awesome!

Two things, Newt Gingrich has a guest post on Mike Huckabee's Vertical Day and over at RightMichigan.com is the posting and video of his Mackinac Island Speech. First I will give a part of his guest post.

How You Can Help Achieve “Real Change”

  • I’d like to thank Governor Huckabee for having me here as a guest today. Over the past few months I’ve been very impressed with the Governor’s openness to new ideas and solutions for improving our country. He showed genuine leadership a few weeks ago by being the first candidate to sign the Nine Nineties in Nine debate pledge. By committing to a much more in-depth, solution-oriented political dialogue in our country, Governor Huckabee showed that he’s truly interested in real change.
But it’s not just candidates for President that have the ability to bring about real change. Real Change is powered by citizen movements and you have the opportunity to take part. More on that below, but let’s focus first on that phrase – real change. In Washington, we hear a lot of talk about change but too often we see too few results. That’s because even as elections are won and lost by different candidates of different parties, the underlying idea framework and lexicon of our politics and government changes at a much slower pace. Control over Congress and the White House may change parties, leading to new laws and programs influenced by different governing philosophies, but it is still the same cadre of permanent government officials and Washington lobbyists controlling the machinery of government. The result is that even if the American people vote for real change, we end up with change at the margins.
Read the rest of Newt's great words here.

To watch Newts speech from the island click here. As I have said, I am unable to watch video on my computer, but hey, it's Newt. It's gotta be good. Everyone I talked to on the island said his speech was the best. So i will take their word for it. I have no reason to doubt them.

Check This Out!

Y'all gotta check out this blog by Mike Huckabee, for real!

  • Our political parties in America have become too predictable. One of the reasons that our political system has become so divided is because the people who support those parties are predictable as well.
  • One of the ways my candidacy is unique is that I am not a Republican from Wall Street , nor am I tied to the lobbyists on K Street in Washington . At my heart, I'm a main street Republican. As the prophet Isaiah said in the Old Testament, “Look to the rock from which you were hewn and the quarry from which you were dug.” I know where I have come from. I was raised in a small town in the middle of America in a working-class family that didn't have much of an education. We didn't have much money, and nobody ever cared what yard sign we put out in front of our house.

Commited to Michigan on October 9

Mike Huckabee will be participating in the October 9th Republican Debates in Michigan.

  • LANSING, Mich. -- Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has agreed to participate in an Oct. 9 Republican presidential debate in Dearborn.
Candidates Mitt Romney, John McCain, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, Sam Brownback and Ron Paul already have said they will attend.
The debate will be held at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center and is being sponsored by CNBC, MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal, the city of Dearborn, the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the state Republican Party.
At this point, it's unlikely a similar debate will be held with the Democratic candidates.
They're continuing to honor a pledge not to campaign in Michigan or Florida because the two states broke Democratic party rules by moving up their primaries ahead of next Feb. 5.

Info from Channel 5 in Saginaw, Michigan.

Wouldn't that be awesome if Mike Huckabee came out on top of this debate, beating out Mitt Romney in his homestate? Some people may underestimate Michigan's significance in this election cycle. Michigan is very important due to the early primary, plus the Democrats snubbing Michigan. I have said here over and over again that if any Republican can sway Michigan Democrats to the right side it is Mike Huckabee. Who knows what Mike's standing will be after the Michigan Primary, I think if he gets enough exposure here he can win Michigan, primary and general. What is really needed is for Mike to win the Primary.

Fiftieth Anniversary of Little Rock Nine/Pic of Mike Huckabee at the Fortieth Anniversary

Here is a post about the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine from an email from Micheal Zak at Grand Old Partisan.

  • On this day in 1957, Republican President Dwight Eisenhower ordered federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas.
In September of that year, a few days after passage of the Republican Party's 1957 Civil Rights Act, Orval Faubus, the Democrat Governor of Arkansas, ordered the state National Guard to prevent the court-ordered segregation of a Little Rock public school. At first, Republican President Dwight Eisenhower tried to negotiate with Faubus, but after several fruitless weeks the President lost patience with his Democrat foe. Eisenhower had not been afraid to take on the Nazis, and he certainly was not going to be fazed by Faubus or any other Democrat challenging the Constitution.
On the advice of his Attorney General, Herbert Brownell, Eisenhower placed the Governor's soldiers under federal government control and ordered the 101st Airborne to Arkansas. Senators Lyndon Johnson and John Kennedy publicly criticized the President for enforcing a federal court order. Many Democrats actually compared the President's act to the Soviet invasion of Hungary the year before.
Today is the fiftieth anniversary of this great Republican achievement to protect African-Americans from their Democrat oppressors.
Your contacts may appreciate this link to the story -- http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=7sil9ecab.0.exsh8ecab.gszhqvbab.15422&ts=S0280&p=http%3A%2F%2Fgrandoldpartisan.typepad.com%2Fblog%2F2007%2F09%2Fpost -- on Grand Old Partisan, each day celebrating 153 years of Republican heroes and heroics. The article is adapted from Back to Basics for the Republican Party.

Tomorrow the festivities about the event will happen tomorrow in Little Rock Arkansas at the Central High School. Mike Huckabee will be in attendance. Unfortunately he will not be making a speech. I will post about the event. If Mike does any interviews afterward and makes a comment I will let ya know.

I want to share a photo I recieved from the campaign. This is when Mike Huckabee spoke at the Fortieth Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine. I had made a post about Mike Huckabee planning on attending the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine and so I emailed Chris Maiorana and asked if there was an available picture of Mike speaking at the event. He went above and beyond the call of duty and contacted those in the communications department for me. So I want to give a special thanks to Chris and those in the communications department. A PERFECT example of what happens when everyone "Organize and Win/Vote Republican."

One of the great things about Mike Huckabee is that he believes in Civil Rights, not because of pandering, but because it is part of God given human rights.

Also, check out what the campaign is doing in regards to Vertical Day. I know I came a little late to this. But better late than never. Go to the main site and the blog site. Maneuver around and point and click to your little heart's desire.

There is a link to the Demand Maps. Again, if you are from Michigan, it is very important that you demand Mike Huckabee to come to your town, especially if you are from north of Midland. Oops, sometimes I need to read things more careful. The map is a donation map. All ya need to do is go to the home page at http://www.mikehuckabee.com/ find the map on the front page, click. Donate, anywhere from $5-2300 or if you are a couple up to $4600. When you do this a little banner that says "I Like Mike" will show up above your hometown.

This Really Touched my Heart

As part of the Vertical Day that is going on at www.mikehuckabee.com there is a post by James Robison titled A strong Pro-Life Leader. Now, from the title, one might think this is simply about the Pro-Life movement to not end a pregnancy. Far from it. Of course Mike Huckabee is an ardent pro-lifer, but he is more than that. His pro-life stance is for people to have a pro(positive) life, from womb to grave. I know the usual phrase is "cradle to grave" but I wanted to include womb due to the fact that is life also and Mike believes that. Anyways, here is the parts that really touched my heart.

  • Gov. Huckabee can stand with unshakable resolve to face any enemy and any challenge, yet he is willing to listen to the opposition and, when appropriate, reason together to seek consensus. He welcomes open, focused debate to find the best possible solutions.
  • The times demand that our nation's leader be able to communicate clearly with the American people, our allies and the world at large. The next president must be comfortable dealing with the press whether hostile or friendly, yet be determined to reach the populace when media bias misrepresents the truth.
  • This governor has been popular in his own state with both political parties and people of all ethnic backgrounds. He received overwhelming support from minorities. Given his less-than-privileged childhood, he relates to those who struggle in life. Texas Governor Rick Perry told me personally that no one responded as effectively to the Katrina crisis as Gov. Huckabee. He was the ultimate example of crisis management and assistance. He is a true conservative with a heart to assist the helpless.
  • Gov. Huckabee is exactly who he appears to be. There is no pretense. He is a strong pro-life leader who understands the importance of inspiring people to see the value of the innocent, unborn life so our country will want to protect every child. He has also established programs to care for children born into difficult circumstances. As he has indicated many times, we must not only care for the unborn, but those who face challenges after they are born.

Please check out the ENTIRE post. It is a must read!

Awesome Blog Post from Mike Huckabee

Check out this post from Mike Huckabee on his websites blog page. It is titled Our Faith Makes. I think the title says it all about what kind of man he is. Nonetheless, I will still post it.

  • Recently, out on the campaign trail, a voter asked if my personal faith informed my decisions. My answer was simple, just as it always has been: my faith is my life - it defines me. My faith doesn't influence my decisions, it drives them. Real faith makes us humble and mindful, not of the faults of others, but of our own. Because of our faith, we become less judgmental in that we see others having the same frailties as ourselves. Faith gives us strength in the face of injustice and motivates us to do our best for "the least of us." Our forefathers birthed this great nation in a spirit of faith - not a mandate telling us what to believe, but an acknowledgement that divine providence pervades our world. I firmly believe the greatness of our nation then, does not come from our government or politicians, but lies in the hopeful, optimistic spirit of everyday Americans. Americans who acknowledge that providence has set us apart. At the beginning of our nation we were ill-equipped for revolution, yet we persevered and gained our independence. Our country was once divided by a costly Civil War, but we survived to heal and build a stronger union. Through the 20th century and into current times we have seen great conflicts and economic upheavals. However, the same spirit that guided the inception of our country continues to lead us out of times of trouble better than we went in. In spite of our trials we remain a people of hope, a people of faith, and we are stronger because of it.
In July, I addressed this same topic in a sermon in Little Rock. The video from my sermon is below. If you are a blogger, I encourage you to blog about this. Then leave a link to your blog post and we will add it below the video as an update to this post. If you aren't a blogger, I encourage you to leave a comment to this blog post.

Click on the link I provided to see a video. Since my computer doesn't have sound and it's too slow to play videos I am unable to see it. But I can tell you one thing, if it is Mike Huckabee is speaking, it has got to be good.

Remember to keep going to the website and to the blog page and help the campaign to celebrate Vertical Day.

I Met Rudy Giuliani Twice

No, I have not switched over to the other side. I got to meet Rudy Giuliani first when I was on the porch of the Grand Hotel. I was talking to friends and he was walking by. I saw him and said to myself, "that's Rudy Giuliani." I wasn't sure at first. He looks much healthier and of average weight in person. He walked by and shook peoples hands, including mine.
My mom was unable to attend anywhere at the Grand, so she didn't get to meet him. She rode a bike around the island while I was at the Grand. After we met back in town we went shopping and ate dinner.
We didn't get back on the ferry until the 9pm boat. Almost everyone waiting for the boat was Ron Paul supporters. They were obnoxious. I will get back to that more in detail in another post. While we were waiting they got really loud, shouting "Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul....!!". There was some security, police and sheriff deputies. People were getting out cameras. My mom said that must be Ron Paul coming. I left my camera in my bag, thinking I didn't want to get a pic of Ron Paul. Then someone said it's Rudy Giuliani. So I rushed to get out my camera. By the time it was set I missed him. Once he got up to the boat entrance on the dock non Paul supporters went up to him and got pictures. My mom and I went to get pictures. He got on the ferry to go to Mackinaw City. I guess he had to catch a plane late tonight. My mom and I were going to take the St. Ignace Ferry back. We found out that the last ferry for St. Iggy was at 8pm. So we had to take the Mackinaw ferry back and grandma picked us up in Mac City.

Comment by Gov. Mike Huckabee on Michigan Visit

NEWS RELEASE
Comment by Gov. Mike Huckabee on Michigan Visit

Little Rock, AR - Former AR Governor Mike Huckabee made the following comment tonight regarding his previously-scheduled trip to Michigan:

“Thanks to a new law by Congress that went into effect Monday, we were prohibited from using the air transportation that was being provided that made getting there possible. Commercial airline schedules couldn’t get us there until after things were over Friday – and we would have to have left even before they started on Saturday. The new rules are fine if a candidate has unlimited money or its own plane, but for those of us who don't, it has really hampered our ability to get places.

“I was really looking forward to attending the Michigan event this weekend, but unfortunately the realities of my schedule overcame my ability to get there, on time to speak and meet with supporters. I called the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party to express my regret and the rationale for my decision, and I appreciate his understanding of this most unfortunate development. I know that this will be a tremendous event and I wish all participants a successful weekend in what is truly one of the most scenic parts of the country.”
Now comment from Kathy.
I understand why Mike Huckabee is unable to make it to Michigan. Although I feel like a big dork. I was the last person to know this. This is not Mike Huckabee's fault. I think my fellow bloggers and the Huckabee campaign were afraid to tell me. There was also a straw poll that I had no idea about. I definitely voted for Huckabee! Those of you out there who may be upset that Mike is not there, remember, it is not his fault. It is Congresses fault. You go right ahead and vote for Mike. You have until tomorrow. And do it with a big smile on your face!
I am kinda bummed though. I had talked to some of the bloggers about going in together to make a Michigan welcome basket for Mr. and Mrs. Huckabee. After all, Mac Isle is a resort area and not only that but after Mike's 2nd term a room at the Grand Hotel would be named after Mrs. Huckabee. Every first lady, Democrat or Republican, who has been to the Grand has a room named after her. Fortunately for them, they did not pay for any of it. Unfortunately for me, I did. So either Grand employees are getting a nice treat or all candidates are, no one gets a treat, I get the box back, I get my money back, or it gets sent to the Huckabee's in Arkansas. I have no problem with it getting sent to Arkansas, but it doesn't make sense. How would Michigan teas, honey, mugs and stuff make sense if it is being sent to Arkansas?
I know i said I would keep y'all up to date on the event. I just got home and was unable to get to a computer during my time there. My mom, who is visiting from Alaska, was with me and she couldn't go on Grand Hotel property so I wanted to spend time with her too on the island. Keep checking here tonight.

Be Sure to Watch FOX News and other Media this Weekend

"Oh what a beautiful morning, Oh what a beautiful day, I've got a wonderful feeling that everything's going my way!"
As I have been talking about the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference for the past month, this is finally thee weekend! Yay! There is going to be all the major national news outlets, along with local news outlets from the state's big cities and northern Michigan. Two major events to watch for will be Newt Gingrich speaking at a workshop at 11:10am Sept. 22 on Saturday. Check C-Span, it could be live. I am hoping the Romney/Huckabee luncheon at 12:30pm-2:00pm Sept 22 will be broadcast live, or at least recorded. If there is a Michigan endorsement for Mike Huckabee, I will be the first to let you know. Oh boy, I am so excited! Keep checking this blog all weekend for up to the minute updates on where I am, where I've been and where I am going. And also, don't forget to look for the crazy redhead wearing a pink rayon blouse and smokey gray tweed skirt, I might be on TV!

"Go for It. Hand Out as Many as You Can."

I was responding to an email from Chris Maiorana from the Huckabee campaign about something to to thank him (you'll get the details soon enuogh on that) and in the email I asked if it would be alright to hand out some of the push cards at the parties and anywhere else on the island this weekend at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. He responded with "Go for it. Hand out as many as you can." So, if I can do that, you can too. If you are going to the Mac Conference go here to download the push cards. I don't know if it would be alright to use the door hangers, considering that people living on the island probably don't want to be solicitated by "crazy Republicans" this weekend.
Again, I want to remind Huckabee supporters to look for me on the island. Maybe we can get together and attend events together. My email is gypzychik@yahoo.com.
Oh I have to let y'all know that I stuck my foot in my mouth again. Previously I said that Mike Huckabee won't be on the island 'til Saturday. I was wrong, which is highly unusual. Today I received something in the mail about joining the Dollar-A-Day program through the Michigan Republican Party. There is going to be a reception Friday, hosted by Dollar-A-Day, that will include Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Ron Paul and Sam Brownback. You can only attend if you belong to the Dollar-A-Day.
Keep checking this blog this weekend for more details about the event. I will keep everyone informed throughout the weekend.

New Michigan blogger for Huckabee!

I just want to take this time to let ya know that there is a new blogger from Michigan who supports Mike Huckabee. Check out Grand Rapids for Huckabee. All are great posts!

I Demand that You Demand Mike Huckabee to come to Michigan!

First I will include the email from the campaign then speak to you.

  • This week we launched a new grassroots tool on our campaign website designed to build support for Governor Huckabee in Michigan.
  • I would like you try it. Visit our blog and read about how to use the interactive map of Michigan to build support across the state for a potential campaign swing through Michigan.
  • All you need to do is demand Governor Huckabee in your hometown and email your friends, family members and co-workers across the state and ask them to do the same.
  • If you don't see your hometown be the first to demand Governor Huckabee. We will add your hometown to our Michigan Map after at least three people Demand the Governor.
  • Our campaign is trying new ways to reachout to voters and build support for Governor Huckabee.
  • Michigan is a critical state and one where polls indicate we are gaining support. Help us increase that level of support today.
  • Click here to get started.
  • Chip Saltsman National
  • Campaign Manager

Well obviously we all know Mike is coming up to Mac Isle, Saturday to speak. I wish he was going to be here Friday too, to attend the barbecues and parties. But I guess he will be in DC. Oh well, I am going to the barbecues and parties. I will definitely be talking up Mike to everyone willing to listen. Dang, I feel like Elly May Clampett dressed like Scarlett O'Hara (movie was good, but book was full of racism and anti-Republican lies). I got so many invites to parties.

All kidding aside, click on the links for the Demand Map and demand that Mike come to your town. Let's be honest here. Even though Mike Huckabee will be on the island, it is "Michigan's playground for the rich." Not there's anything wrong with that. I just think that Mike's best audience would be the blue collar working class, the backbone of America. When ya see the map you will see that most of the demands for Mike Huckabee are concentrated in the Detroit, Flint, Lansing and Saginaw areas. These are where the factories are. I tell you one thing. If Mike comes to Flint I will be visiting family and take the whole Wells' family with me, aunts, uncles, cousins and even distant relatives. I doubt grandpa will go. He likes his Yellow Dog Democrats.

If you live in the northern area, DEMAND that Mike come back to the area. There is only three towns north of Midland demanding Mike. It makes the rest of the country think we are nothing but country bumpkins without access to computers. I want to end saying that I think Mike might have a Michigan endorsement, by weekend's end. That's all I am saying. I don't want to put my foot in my mouth, in case I am wrong, which is rare.

That Song from the Honda Commercial

If you are like me, you have been wondering and wondering about that song from the Honda commercials. Ya know the one I am talking about, with that great rockabilly song. Well, anyways I had to look this up on a search engine. Here's the kicker, it's not sung by a rockabilly artist or group from the 50's. It's sung by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) in 1981. Yeah I know, I am shocked too. From the voice quality I thought for certain it would be Gene Vincent or Eddie Cochran, especially when the lead singer goes "oummm yeahhh." I guess I can't be too surprised. This was the same year the Stray Cats came out with "Rock This Town."
Whether or not ya know the song and/or commercial I am talking about I thought as a treat for ya I would add the video. Many of the commentors said they thought it was cheesy and corny. I love the vid. It is making a parody of the old B-movies of the 50's. At the end, when the screen says "Coming to a Drive-in Near You", I got to thinkin. There is only 10 working drive-ins in the state of Michigan. I am not sure how many throughout the country. I miss going to drive-ins. That is part of American culture that can never be reclaimed, or maybe it can. I like the idea of two for one rates. The snack bar was more than just candy and popcorn and soda. It had hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and nachos, along with the candy, popcorn and soda. Don't forget the dancing cartoon food during intermission. Many of these still working drive-ins play those same intermission cartoons, fifty years later. Anyways here is the video.

I won't be able to post too much this week. I was hoping to be able to post a lot about Macinac Island, but I am busy cleaning house cause my mom and grandma will be here this week. Plus I have to get ready for the conference. I will fill you in on all the details about the conference this weekend with up to the minute details.

AP News Analysis: Central High 50th could boost Clinton, Huckabee

Upcoming is the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Little Rock Nine. That is the incident when the Democrat Governor of Arkansas, Orval Faubus barred nine black students from attending Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Republican President Dwight Eisenhower called in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army to let in the black students to attend school. They were treated cruelly by segregationist even after they were let in. Read more info here.

Mike Huckabee and Hillary Clinton will be attending the Anniversary event on Sept. 25. I have highlighted some important statements from the article in The Pine Bluff Commercial Online.

  • LITTLE ROCK - When Mike Huckabee was Arkansas' governor, he built inroads with the black community through his ties as a Baptist minister and appointments to boards and commissions.
  • Organizers say neither Huckabee nor Clinton will have a speaking role at the event marking the day then-President Dwight Eisenhower sent federal troops to the all-white school. But both may still benefit symbolically from their presence.
  • Huckabee could have the chance to highlight his 10 years as Arkansas governor and show that he may be the best hope for the Republican Party to gain support in the black community after wariness with the Bush administration.
A year after he was sworn in as governor, Huckabee joined Bill Clinton on the steps of the city's largest high school to mark the 40Th anniversary of its desegregation. During his speech there, Huckabee renounced the racism that nine black students encountered and called prejudice a "sin problem," not just a skin problem.
  • The Southern Baptist minister even singled out his fellow clergy.
  • "What is really tragic that we today come to renounce is the fact that in many parts of the South it was the white churches that helped not only ignore the problems of racism, but in many cases actually fostered those feelings and sentiments," he said.
  • It was rhetoric like that and his record in appointing blacks to boards and commissions that helped Huckabee build support unusual for a white Republican in a Southern state, political scientist Jay Barth said.
  • "I think that Huckabee clearly for a Republican did some explicit and legitimate outreach to the African-American community when he was here," said Barth, a professor at Hendrix College. "He was able to use his ministerial background as a starting point for that outreach.
  • "Though he's presented himself as a conservative Republican who can win the South, Huckabee as a presidential candidate hasn't strayed from his moderate stances on issues of race and civil rights. On immigration, he hasn't backed away from his claims that some of the more outspoken opponents of illegal immigrants are partly motivated by racism.
  • "It pitted a president against a governor," Virgil Miller, chairman of the anniversary commission. "It was not an insignificant event as it relates to the struggle for civil rights in this country. I would hope the presence of these high-profile individuals is a testament to that."
  • Both candidates may benefit more from who's not there rather than from anything they say. Miller said the commission had not yet heard whether President Bush would attend the anniversary ceremony.

This last sentence shows that Mike Huckabee is a man of actions, not just words. My momma always says, "actions speak louder than words."

Testing the Waters and "Get Organized and Win"!

One vodka and cranberry, two Kahlua and creams later, I just got back from the reception. I was unable to hand out Mike Huckabee cards. But I will find other places to hand them out. Perhaps my next visit to the island.
I did have a chance to test out the waters about reaction to Mike Huckabee. I will get to that in a later post. It is positive though.
I also had time to think about a vintage button I like to wear to Republican events. It dates back to the Ike era. It says "Organize and Win," and an elephant on it. When ya tilt it a little it says "Vote Republican." Well anyways I will get back to that later.

Mike Huckabee Talks about Reaching out to Minorities

Here is some snippets from a recent CBS article.

  • (AP) Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee of Arkansas said Friday his fellow Republicans would be making a devastating mistake in the race for the White House if they ignore minorities, unions and other traditionally Democratic groups.
  • While the proliferation of debates has cut into the time candidates have to campaign and raise funds, Huckabee said he has reached out to the AARP, the National Education Association and other groups that tend to vote Democratic.
  • He said he also plans to participate in a PBS debate on minority issues because he believes it is critical that Republicans speak to these concerns. "If Republicans don't win minority votes and votes that we traditionally don't get, Hillary Clinton's the next president," Huckabee said in a teleconference with reporters while campaigning in Iowa.
  • "I want to be the president of the United States, not just the president of the Republican Party," Huckabee said. "I'm still a conservative and I still believe in lower taxes and less government. I'm pro-life and I'm pro-family, but it doesn't mean that I'm not going to listen ... and it doesn't mean I'm not going to govern with a view to being a president to everybody."

This is why Mike Huckabee is the best choice, not just for Republican nominee, but to be President. Nothing gets done when ya have childish partisanship. It shouldn't be about Republicans winning over Democrats just because. It should be about Republicans winning over Democrats because of ideas. And Mike Huckabee has the right ideas. Mike Huckabee is the only one willing to tell everyone about his ideas.

Mike Huckabee is the most like Abraham Lincoln than any other candidate out there. Abraham Lincoln was more concerned about people than party lines. The party of Lincoln started out as a party of the people. Mike Huckabee can bring it back to the party of the people. The Republican party began as a party concerned about minorities.

Meet Up on the Island!

As many of my regular readers know, I have been talking about the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, quite often. I am really excited about the conference, in less than one week! I have been excited about attending this since before I even heard about Mike Huckabee. When I heard about Mike Huckabee's campaign back in March I was hoping that he would attend. Last month my dreams came true, he will be attending, along with every '08 presidential candidate.

If you have already signed up, you have probably received a few reception invites in the snail mail. Perhaps you are considering attending these events. If you are let's all go together as Huckabee supporters. We could all meet up on the Grand Hotel porch. I will give my email here. Contact me at gypzychik@yahoo.com and we can talk about what to do. We can also sit together or nearby during the Huckabee/Romney luncheon. We need to show support in numbers.
Again, I want to stress, that if you have not registered, you can do so on the island Sept. 21 starting at noon. If you have registered, but not signed up for the luncheon you can do so when you get on the island. Just purchase the meal tickets at the Grand. Let's do whatever we can to tell people about Mike Huckabee. Remember, all the national media will be there.

Display Your Huckabee Bumpersticker with Pride!

I probably should have posted about this earlier. When you go to the Mackinac Repbulican Leadership Conference you will have to park your at the Shepler's Ferry dock. Your car will be sitting there all day or weekend. Make the most of your car sitting there. Put a Mike Huckabee bumpersticker, or two, three, four or... on your car. Let people see his name. Hopefully you can get one in time. If not, make a banner with construction paper and other crafty stuff and put it in the back window of your car. Or, ya know those windshield covers that ya put in your windshield? What ya can do is get some construction paper and cover your windshield cover with construction paper and be as creative as possible mentioning Mike Huckabee. This will work best with the cardboard style. If you don't have one, buy one. They can be found at Wal-Mart, Family Dollar, automotive stores, etc.
If you would like, take a picture and I will post it here after the conference.

I Finally Finished My Outfit!

Well, I finally finished my outfit. One pic is the buttons on the blouse. The other is the finished outfit.

Women's Reception that will Include Janet Huckabee

Over at Saul's blog, Jane Abraham, co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, has a post about a Special Women's Event that will take place at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.

  • Mackinac Conference -- Special Women's Event
The Mackinac Conference is fast approaching. It is going to be the best conference in the history of the Michigan Republican Party. I hope you are planning to join us.
I want to be sure everyone knows about a special event I’m hosting at the conference for our POWER program. POWER is "Power Of Women Electing Republicans". This is a major donor program at the Michigan Republican Party that we have been working hard to build. The membership fee is $1000 contribution to the State Party each year. This can be contributed in a lump sum or in quarterly contributions of $250. Our members have enjoyed several special events, including a special reception with The Honorable Elaine Chao, Secretary of Labor, and a roundtable breakfast with US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX). Kay is the Republican Policy Committee Chair for the Republican US Senate Conference.
At the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, POWER members will be invited to attend a special reception with invited guests:
    Mrs. Mary Brownback
    RNC Co-Chairman Jo Ann Davidson
    Mrs. Callista Gingrich
    Mrs. Judith Giuliani
    Mrs. Janet Huckabee
    Mrs. Lynne Hunter
    Mrs. Cindy McCain
    Mrs. Carol Paul
    Mrs. Ann Romney
    Mrs. Jeri Thompson
If you are a woman and a Republican click on the link above to find out more info.

If I could afford it I would. Mrs. Huckabee is a very nice, down to earth lady. I will try to get up a post about this. It has to do with how she was willing to accept a pop can tab as an "engagement ring." I will be including about other candidate's spouses. I don't want this to be a fluff peice.

Huckabee tells how he would help nonprofits help the country

Check out this article about Mike Huckabee talking about non-profit organizations.

  • DOVER — Leaders from nonprofit organizations across New Hampshire and Maine gathered in the McConnell Center on Thursday to hear presidential hopeful and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee address how he would approach the needs of the nonprofit sector. The event kicked off the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits' presidential primary project, intended to educate presidential candidates about the size, scope and importance of the sector. The project is a first-time, nonpartisan effort by nonprofit leaders to introduce the needs of the sector into the national conversation, N.H. Center for Nonprofits Executive Director Mary Ellen Jackson said.
  • The organization, which is a division of the National Council of Nonprofit Associations, extended invitations to all candidates on both sides of the aisle, but Huckabee, a Republican, was the first to accept.
  • ....
  • "I've spent most of my adult life doing work with nonprofits," Huckabee said. As an ordained Baptist minister, he has worked with churches as well as the United Way and the American Cancer Society. As the governor of Arkansas, the state often used nonprofit organizations when the government was unable to provide the same services, he said. Nonprofits were essential for this purpose after Hurricane Katrina refugees poured into the state, increasing the population by 3 percent almost overnight. "We partnered with churches and Scouting facilities in the state who had just closed camp facilities for the season," Huckabee said. "Rather than congregate everyone in one area, we had 39 places spread around the state that provided lodging, dining halls, recreation facilities and security."

I am almost done with my outfit. I just have to add buttons and I will be done.

Mackinac Conference Workshops

I just got my package for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference! There are some cool workshops and other stuff going on. I have previously talked about the meal programs, now I want to talk about the workshops.
First will be the Welcome Reception on the Grand Hotel porch. This is where the attendees will gather.
After the reception will be the first workshop, presented by the Institute for Energy Program. The topic will be about "Energy Realism for the Public Policy Debate." I will try to make it to this one.
The next workshop won't be until late Saturday morning. That is the one that has Newt Gingrich speaking.
After that are two workshops taking place at the same time. One is Perspectives on Tax Policy. The other is Web Activism: Blogging and the New Media. I want to go to both. Have no fear, there will also be afternoon repeats of both in the afternoon.
Of course the best event will be the luncheon with Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney
Besides repeats of the tax and blogging workshops, Saturday afternoon workshops will be two sessions presented by Citizens for Traditional Values. This will be about "Can the Reagan Coalition be preserved?".
There will also be a workshop presented by GOPAC. This will be about "Enlisting a new Generation of Republicans to Lead America."
There will also be an afternoon session with Ward Connerly. Forgive me, I have no idea who this is. I have heard the name. I will have to do an inet search.
Then of course will be the Chairman's Reception on the Grand porch. This one is awesome! It will be hosted by State Republican Chairman Saul Anuzis. When I went in '05 he gave out free beer from Lithuania. There was also a cash bar and appetizer table. This was the first time I had sushi and caviar. It wasn't too bad. I wouldn't pay for it, but if it's there I will try it. Also, I had the best blue cheese ever in my life.
At some point will be some sort of golf tournament on Saturday.
Finally on Sunday will be a non-denominational faiths service.
Guess what y'all? There will be a media room open to all attendees. Included will be computers and phones. I will try to keep y'all up to date up to the moment. I would love if I can talk a friend into letting me use their laptop to live blog during the Huckabee/Romney Luncheon. If not, I will try to get to a computer ASAP.
I hope those of you in Michigan have signed up. If not, you can still register the same weekend.
God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

Help Me Pick

Hey everyone, I need help picking whether or not I should wear my outfit with or without the belt. Here are the pics of both. Which do you think looks better? I still have to put buttons on the cuffs and front. Sorry if ya came here for politics. I will be back to talking politics, soon. If you are interested in finding out about Mike Huckabee go to http://www.mikehuckabee.com/. If you haven't signed up for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference yet, go to http://www.mackinacconference.com. Today is the last day to sign up. Also, once you sign up to attend you can purchase meal tickets for the Huckabee/Romney luncheon on Saturday 12:30-2:00PM.

PS, I may not listen to you and choose the opposite ;-P.

Which Southerner Would Michiganders Like Better?

Originally posted on 8/30/07. Today is the last day to register online for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. If you are sa Mike Huckabee supporter and have not registered, please register. I get to make some coffee and get back to my blouse. I will be back to my blog soon.
I was thinking about Mike Huckabee coming to the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference and the fact that he will be in the great state of Michigan, along with the recent support from Machinist and Aeronautics Workers. Michigan, especially in Flint (where I grew up), Lansing and Detroit is Union Country.
During one of the earlier blogger's conference calls I asked Gov. Huckabee about his slogan "I Like Mike," if he took that idea from the old "I Like Ike" slogan. He answered that it was a friends idea, but wish he had thought about it originally. He said something to the effect of "Speaking of slogans, I didn't know there were any rednecks in Michigan." While he was well meaning, there are quite a few rednecks in Michigan. More on that later.
As I have said before, one of my grandfathers was an Arkansan with an eighth grade education before working for General Motors. This is the story of many GM workers from GM's heyday, 1940's through 1960's. Many people in Flint and Lansing, possibly Detroit, are either from the South or have Southern roots.
While I don't agree with this, these people will look to Southern candidates. This is due to "voter identification." They will take a closer look at who they identify with more. Most members of the Union of Auto Workers of the above mentioned cities are Democrats. Like my grandfather, many of them vote for "Yellow Dog Democrats."
This time might just change. While I don't like the actual organization of the UAW, I have the utmost respect for the men and women who work in the shops. These people have a high regard for family values. A family values candidate will resonate with them.
On the Republican side, the Southerners are Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson. I don't know either of these men's schedules for in Michigan, except the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. Now, there won't be too many UAW workers at this conference, if any. But, there will be newspapers and TV news stations that represent the cities these people are from. I doubt to many people in Flint will care to pay much attention to the conference. I will get my family in Flint to pay attention and tell their friends along with the distant side of the family.
This, along with other reasons, is why I pray that Mike Huckabee doesn't change his message of "Main Street" Republican, just to appease the base that will be there. People who are not "Wall Street" Republicans will be watching. Everyone in Flint, Lansing and Detroit need to see that Mike is for us "little guys," the blue-collars. They need to see that he cares about all Americans; rich or poor, Republican or Democrat, black or white.
I would love to see him in Flint. I would not be able to actually see him there, but I sure would send my family. Why would I like to see Mike Huckabee in Flint, such a liberal town? His message would resonate with Flintites.
Flint used to be such a nice town. Not quite in my time. In my time that's when the city started going downhill. Back then it was fun to pile up the family in the car and to go into town to watch them blow up or bulldoze an old GM plant. In hopes, perhaps of them building a newer facility.
That never came. Now it is sad to go to Flint. There are boarded up houses and factories. So many people layed off, on unemployment, gang activity and whatnot. I WANT MY FLINT BACK!
Mike Huckabee can make people realize that it is about more than just Democrats versus Republicans. It's about people. It's about the economy. It's about the Fair Tax being fair for everyone.
Mike Huckabee came from humble roots, in Hope, Arkansas. He was the first male in his family to attend college. His father worked two jobs to put a meal on the table and shoes on his kids' feet. Mike Huckabee knows what it is like to struggle and work hard to make his dreams come true. That is what the shopworkers from the forties to the sixties know about. That is what their children and grandchildren know about.
Now about the other Republican Southerner. I don't know much about Fred Thompson. He seems rather lazy. Another blogger said Fred reminds him of a rich Plantation Owner. I say he reminds me of the foreman. The meanest guy on the plantation who did all the cruel stuff. But perhaps the fellow blogger has a point. The plantation owner sat around and let the other guy, the foreman, do all the dirty work, along with those in the field doing the backbreaking work. This smugness does not work in Flint. The people of Flint would not welcome someone like Fred.
Now about the Democrat Southerner. I do know John Edwards is the son of a millworker. I do know he has a big mansion. I do know he wants everyone to get rid of their SUVs, while he continues to drive his. The part about him coming from humble roots would generate with those in Flint who have Southern backgrounds or ancestry. That's where it ends. They don't like big shot lawyers. They don't like hypocrites.
The UAW may go all out to tout their prized Democrats. But I think once the good people who belong to the UAW, along with those retired from the shops, would give Huckabee a chance once they got to hear about him. No freakin way would they go for Hillary or Barack. As much as I hate to say it, while it's not right, they will look at gender and skin color. It shouldn't be this way, but some older Flintites are set in their ways. But also the liberalness is what will ultimately turn them off to those two.
Now, about other Michigan rednecks. I think, or at least hope, that Flintites are getting sick of the limousine liberals. People in Flint are humble, from humble backgrounds. My dad or grandpa told me that back in Arkansas and when first in Flint he would hunt rabbit and "varmint" (as Mitt Romney has so eloquently put it) to put food on the table. Also, when I went to my grandma's funeral I was told that the family also used to raise chickens along with veggies and fruits. Who plucked those chickens? My aunts.
There were other families doing the same things. These are people who came from states like Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and of course Arkansas. The remaining people of Southern backgrounds are family values, love the American Flag (don't say it...), support our troops, pro-lifers once they figure out the truth, don't believe in gay marriage, etc. These decent folks have been abandoned by the Union that was supposed to help them. And the Democrat Party that they were told would "take all their troubles away," which never happened.
While I have been talking about the white side who came from the South, I haven't forgotten about the black people of Flint, Detroit and Lansing. Most of these people have Southern roots also. Some of them are descended from slaves who came to Michigan to work other types of industry, just after the Civil War. Some of them were GM workers who came up to Michigan from the South for the same reasons as my grandfather, to make a better life for their families. And now, like the white descendants of Flint, their descendants are wondering "what now?".
As a white girl, I don't feel appropriate talking about what it is like to "grow up black" in Flint. But it is definitely appropriate to have empathy.
Sorry for such a long post. I hope ya didn't fall asleep ;). I am only getting started. I haven't even said everything on my mind about this.
God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!
If you are in Flint or near Flint, demand that Mike Huckabee come to Flint.

A Czech Living in the New York Recalls 9/11

  • Jiri Boudnik is a Czech architect who has been living in the United States for the last 20 years. On September 11th 2001, he witnessed the fall of the Twin Towers from his office in Brooklyn, and rushed to the scene to help. In the days following on from the September 11th attacks, he continued to assist the emergency services in their hunt for survivors. How? By designing a computer model of the World Trade Center as was, to help the rescuers find their way through the rubble. To mark the sixth anniversary of 9/11, Jiri Boudnik spoke to us earlier from his home in New York. I started by asking him what the mood was like in the metropolis this morning:
Jiri Boudnik, photo: www.bbc.co.uk"Well, right now we have heavy rain in New York, it looks like it's going to be like this all morning. So everyone is probably going to have to use an umbrella. And for the first time, the ceremony is not going to be down on the site of World Trade Center, but in an adjacent park, on Liberty Plaza. And so that is one difference from the previous years."

My Current Project

The reason I am away from my blog is I am working on my blouse I am planning to wear to the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. Obviously it is not finished. I am taking a quick break after gathering the sleeves. The blouse is satin material made from a 1956 Simplicity Pattern. The skirt is boucle material with black lace sewn in at the factory made from a 2005 pattern. I wanted use material that would give the skirt a vintage look. I will post a pic when it is all finished.
God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

Remembering 9/11

There are some good blog posts out there memoralizing 9/11. Maritime Sentry has posted Mike Huckabee's statement on the sixth anniversary of 9/11, thanking the armed forces, video about 9/11. One Mom recalls her memory of where she was on 9/11/01, President Bush declares today Patriot Day.

Huckabee Unity

SATURDAY, SATURDAY, SATURDAY, SATURDAY!!!
SEPTEMBER 22, 2007
Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney will be coming to Mackinac Island to battle it out.
The gloves will come off in the Dining room of the Grand Hotel at 12:30pm to 2:00pm.

BE THERE, BE THERE, BE THERE!!!

Originally posted on 8/26/07.

Before I start this post I want to thank Kevin Tracy for the poster graphics. This does go with the post I had in mind about unity. As Huckabee supporters we need to unite and help Mike Huckabee the best way we can. "United we stand, divided we fall." I was thinking about the fact that Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney will be speaking at the same luncheon on the island. I thought about how this will be a good and interesting match. I had the idea for super imposing a picture of Mike and Mitt boxing, but I don't know how to do that. I knew Kevin had the ability to do something like that. I asked him and he came up with the above poster.

Here's my point, we all are able to do something to help Mike Huckabee out. Not one of us can do everything. If we all come together and put our brainstorming and talents together we can accomplish a lot.

Now for my message to all of you in Michigan. We need to show up to the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference to support Mike Huckabee. I understand that it may be exspensive and a long distance for many of you. Please at least pray and try to find a way to make it. It will be $100 for registration. The meal ticket will only be $30, to eat in luxury and most important, hear Mike Huckabee make one of his moving speeches.

Now I understand that room rates on the island will be expensive. Some of you may not be able to afford room rates, there. Room rates in St Ignace will be much cheaper. St. Ignace room rates would be anywhere from $100 to $250 cheaper. There are four different ferry docks in St. Ignace. Ya would have to take a ferry whether ya stay on the island or not. To find out about St Ignace tourism, hotels, ferry and much more info go to http://www.stignace.com/. Granted, ya can also stay in Mackinaw City. But I think St. Ignace is a better town, it's in the UP. Plus, ya would have a chance to travel over the Mackinac "Mighty Mac" Bridge.

Now some of you may be whining about not being able to stay on the island to attend all the parties. While attending great parties with free alcohol is fun, that is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to show everyone on Mackinac Island how much support Mike Huckabee has. I know Mitt will host a party. I don't know if Mike will host a party. Again, it doesn't matter. Mike Huckabee doesn't need to buy my support. There will be other parties to attend, before the last boat leaves the island.

Tell ya what, if you really want to party til closing time, I can be your tour guide in St. Ignace and we can party at one of the bars. In fact, that would be a good idea to talk about Mike Huckabee in St. Ignace, with the people who are not attending the conference. Just let's not get too drunk and look like idiots, making Mike Huckabee look like he has idiots supporting him. Sipping a few drinks would be okay. DON'T get in a bar fight either! Take a cab or have a non-drinking friend give ya a ride if you drink too much!

What'd ya say? Mike Huckabee has come out swinging for the people of Arkansas, us and the people of America. Let's come out swinging for Mike Huckabee!!

God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

Best of Michigan Redneck

Since Wednesday is the last day to sign up online for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference I am going to rerun the better past posts about the conference. Plus I need to start getting my outfit finished. If you have not signed up yet and are still contemplating attending I hope I can encourage you to sign up. Keep looking below this post for new reposts.

Mike Huckabee has coveted position at Mackinac Leadership Conference/Breakdown on Speaking Times

Originally posted 8/21/07 @ 8:48PM.
While the Mackinac Conference is still a month away, for Michiganders this is very exciting. The current schedule is not binding. I thought I would break it down, nonetheless. As you will see the "top tiers" are paired with "second tiers." I will try to take a neutral point of view on this. At this point I am glad Mike Huckabee is still being considered a "second tier." Don't get me wrong, I still want him to be considered "top tier. You will soon see why I think this is good.

FRIDAY
On Friday is 7:30pm-9:30pm Dinner Program with special guests Duncan Hunter and Rudy Giuliani

There will be quite a few people showing up for Rudy. With the exception of 9/11 his liberal views on gay marriage and abortion doesn't jive much with Michigan conservatives. I'm still not certain what Duncan's views are on anything. I don't think too many Michiganders do either.
Let's talk about timing. This dinner is on Friday. Not everyone in attendance shows up on Friday. Usually they wait until Saturday. Perhaps because of Rudy Giuliani being there, this may bring more people who would not show up on Friday.

SATURDAY
8:30am-10:00am Breakfast program with special guests Ron Paul and Sam Brownback

I have no other comment than, ROFLMAO! There is a lot of parties with free alcohol and drinking going on Friday night. I don't think a lot of these hung over people will be willing to wake up for these two.
10:10am-11:00am Morning Session with Newt Gingrich

This one will be good. Newt is awesome. No matter how hung over I am I will buy some Head-On and apply directly to my forehead, apply directly to my forehead, apply directly to my forehead... You get the point. This session will definitely have a good showing. The only problem I have is his affairs and multiple marriages. He does kinda have that Republican stereotype of high falutentness. But he is not pompous like Fred Thompson.

12:30pm-2:00pm Lunch program with special guests Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney

This is going to be the best one! Who is Mitt Romney to Michaiganders? He was born and raised in Michigan. His father was the governor of Michigan. My grandmother recalls him being a great governor. My mom has a fond memory of going to Lansing, Michigan's state capitol, as a Girl Scout. She met him and said he was a nice guy. Michiganders of a certain age will recall his governorship and there may be baby-boomers who remember him also.
Mitt Romney resonates with Michigan conservatives. The majority of Michigan conservatives are pro-life and pro-marriage. Mitt Romney has been married once. Michiganders like that.
IMHO, there will be a large attendance showing up for Mitt. They will leave liking Mike. Mike Huckabee is pro-life and pro-marriage. He believes the second amendment is more than just about hunting. It's about freedom and the right for good law abiding citizens to own guns. But the hunting aspect will resonate with Michigan voters. The Upper Peninsula has the best hunting in Michigan. *While most of the people who will be there are from the Lower Peninsula, many "trolls" come up to the UP for hunting.*
The timing is absolutely perfect. It is on Saturday. The day that everyone will be there. It's not too late, not too early. Plus the lunch programs are the cheapest. Everyone will be over their hangovers and will be able to listen to Mike's message with clarity.
7:00pm-9:00pm Dinner Program with special guests Fred Thompson and John McCain

These speakers could be considered Pompous and Clueless. Pompous, I mean Fred, would draw in quite a few people. I heard that in Michigan, the majority of Republicans are waiting for Fred to run. I don't think too many will show up for John.
This will be the last speaking event. People will be tired and want to go off on their own.
SUNDAY
9:30am-10:30am Non-Denominational Church Service

If only Mike Huckabee would be able to be the guest pastor everyone on that island would be supporting Mike.
*"troll" is the UP slang for people who live in the Lower Peninsula. They live below the bridge, thus they are trolls. It's all good and fun humor.

God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

Mike Huckabee IS a CONFIRMED speaker at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference!!!!

This post originally posted on 8/20/07 @ 6:44PM. The time for the Huckabee/Romney luncheon has been changed since original posting to 12:30PM-2:00PM.

People of Michigan, lookout. Here comes the next President of the United States, Mike Huckabee!!! He will be attending the Mackinac Island Conference, on September 21-23. I can not tell y'all how excited I am to hear this. As I do every day, twice a day, since the Straw Poll results, I checked over at the Conference website to see if Mike is on the list, then get disappointed that he wasn't on the list of speakers. Now I am no longer disappointed. More to come later.
God Bless all you Michiganders, thank you to Saul Anuzis and the Huckabee campaign, from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!
PS I took a gorgeous pic of the island this sunny UP afternoon. I was having problems with adding pics to my computer. I will add the pic as soon as possible.

Wouldn't that be awesome if Mike Huckabee got to be the officiating pastor at the Sunday service? A girl can only dream.
While y'all know how I feel about Mitt Romney, this is probably the best speaking partner for Mike Huckabee, at least in Michigan. Remember Mitt was born in Michigan and his dad was the former governor. Mitt will bring in the most attendance. Mike will have a large audience to listen him.
If you are from Michigan please sign up, especially if you are a Mike Huckabee supporter. When you first click on you will get a security warning. Read it then click below. If you are tight on money and worried about spending money at a hotel you can stay in St. Ignace or Mackinac City and just ferry back and forth. Depending on the room rate, it may be cheaper. You will be provided one ticket per person with your packet. An extra ticket will cost you about $21.00 per person. Don't take Arnold Line. They are owned by Democrats. Sheplers and Star Line are your best bet.

Last Day to Register Online for Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference...

...is September 12. You have up to the same day of the conference to register in person or through the mail. I would suggest that if you plan on going, hurry up and sign online. It will probably be easier for those in charge. If you "Like Mike" then please attend. Let's go to support Mike Huckabee! Also, don't forget that Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney will be speaking at the Saturday luncheon, purchase meal tickets for that. Click on the banner above to register for the conference then purchase your meal tickets.
God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!
See what Lunchbucket Conservative said August 21, about the importance of the conference.
  • This year’s Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference is shaping up to be the first GOP event of the primary season that will have all the tier-one and tier-two candidates in attendance. Not even the Ames Staw Poll could boast as much.
  • Like I said in other places, this is probably the largest crop of presidential candidates in one event — certainly when speaking of the Mackinac confab — so far in the race for the ‘08 nomination. This says something about the importance of Michigan in the GOP nominating process.

President Eisenhower Signed the Civil Rights Bill in 1957

From Grand Old Partisan;

  • During the five terms of the FDR and Truman presidencies, the Democrats did not propose any civil rights legislation. President Dwight Eisenhower, in contrast, at last focused the federal government on defending African-Americans from their Democrat oppressors. He asked Attorney General Brownell, a fomer RNC chairman, to write the first federal civil rights legislation since the Republican Party’s 1875 Civil Rights Act.
In his January 1957 State of the Union address, President Eisenhower re-submitted Brownell’s bill to Congress, where it had languished the year before. Brownell’s original draft would have permitted the Attorney General to sue anyone violating another person’s constitutional rights, but Democrat opposition meant this powerful provision would have to wait until the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Huckabee in the News

Huckabee looks to reshuffle presidential race

  • DOVER, New Hampshire (Reuters) - After spending months buried near the bottom of a crowded 2008 Republican White House pack, Mike Huckabee finally sees signs of life for his bare-bones campaign.
DOVER, New Hampshire (Reuters) - After spending months buried near the bottom of a crowded 2008 Republican White House pack, Mike Huckabee finally sees signs of life for his bare-bones campaign.
He was a surprise second-place finisher in last month's straw poll in Iowa, an early test in the state that kicks off the 2008 race, and that has given the former Arkansas governor something he lacked -- the air of a legitimate contender.
"The earth has shifted for us," Huckabee said in an interview. "The media attention, the fundraising, the polls -- the changes have been dramatic on every front. We're being taken seriously now."He was a surprise second-place finisher in last month's straw poll in Iowa, an early test in the state that kicks off the 2008 race, and that has given the former Arkansas governor something he lacked -- the air of a legitimate contender.

After the Iowa straw poll, Huckabee rises as Brownback falls

  • There’s GOP candidate Mike Huckabee, grinning and picking his bass guitar on the National Review cover. The headline: “Huck!”
There he is on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, who tells viewers that Huckabee has “been on a roll.”
Big crowds in New Hampshire. Appearances on “Fox News Sunday,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Bill Maher’s program on HBO and Stephen Colbert’s show on Comedy Central. Big profiles in the big papers. And best — big bumps in the polls.
All because of a second-place — not even close to first — finish in an easily manipulated Iowa straw poll where three GOP leaders did not even try.

Giddy-Up and Go...

...to Mackinac Island! I just love horses!
In my quest to talk about Mike Huckabee coming to Mackinac Island, the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference and Michigan tourism, I thought I would talk abo how to get around on Mackinac Island. There are no cars allowed on Mackinac Island, except for a few emergency and construction vehicles. So the only transportation on Mackinac Island is by foot, bike or horse.
The conference is more like a vacation for Republicans than it is about boring stuffy old political meetings. Yes, there will be meetings. But they are more like workshops than meetings. Most of the time will be spent socializing with friends, new and old alike. Whether that be on the Grand Hotel porch during the Welcome Reception, or one of the meals, or the Chairman's Reception, or any other time you are not at a meeting.
A trip to Mackinac Island would not be complete if you did not go horseback riding and/or took a carriage ride. Either one of these activities can be done with or without a guide. Stable hands will help you choose the horse that's the right size and riding level for you. For more info about horse riding click here. Info on carriage tours and taxi service, click here. There is also a terrific video of the horses and island when you view the horses page. Be sure to take time to view these magnificent animals.

Mike Huckabee to Appear on CNN Sunday, Sept. 9

Mike Huckabee will appear on CNN's "Late Edition" with Blitzer tomorrow at approximately 11:30am EST.

Mike Huckabee was in Cobb County Georgia Comments on Mitt Romney's Audacious $20 Mil Comment

  • Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on Saturday called on President Bush to veto excessive spending bills sent to him by the Democratic-controlled Congress in the next few weeks.
"We've got to veto some spending bills if we're going to survive. We need the veto to call attention to the runaway spending that we have," Huckabee told Cobb County Republicans on his first campaign swing through the state.
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, shown speaking in Boston on Friday, told a Cobb County group Saturday that President Bush should veto budget bills.
The former Arkansas governor and former Southern Baptist pastor is competing with rivals Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson for the conservative GOP base.
Huckabee took aim at both men during several stops during the day — which included a biker bar in McDonough, where he participated in an event to raise money to aid families of overseas military.
  • He does admit his campaign is underfunded.
But he accused Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, of putting a price tag on the race.
"He said if I don't raise $20 million by the end of this month, that I need to get out of the race. It was basically putting a throw-down in front of me, saying it was all about the money," Huckabee said. "The United States and the presidency is not for sale. If it was, we'd just put it on eBay and auction it off."
Huckabee's lack of funds has forced him into some imaginative campaigning.
The morning event in Kennesaw was in a hanger at McCollum Airport — with Huckabee flanked by parked jets and prop planes. About 175 attended.
  • Huckabee's political message is aimed at a Republican base discouraged by a national GOP performance that has included scandal and overspending. Among current presidential candidates, Washington experience should be considered a disqualification, he said, because of congressional failure to address issues such as immigration and taxation.
I think that is awesome that Mike would interact with average Americans in a biker bar. Let's see Mitty-poo do that.

Still Laughing...

...since coming back from my mailbox. Today I went out to my mailbox. I got a letter from Mitt Romney's campaign. I figured this had something to do with the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference. Yup. I have been invited to a reception for Mitt Romney. It will be held at Anne Cottage. Y'all know I don't like Mitt, but since I do know people who like him I thought that I would go just to hang out with them. I would of course wear my Mike Huckabee button. If I want to attend I only need to pay $500. If I want my picture taken with Mitt I need to pay $1,000, oh and it will be $1,000, no pic, $2,000 w/ pic for couples. Umm, no. For real, who would pay $500 just to attend a party for Mitt Romney? Why is it another $500 for a picture?

I can find better things to do on the island, like shop, go horseback riding, take a carriage or bike ride around the island, walk around the Grand Hotel, shop at the Republican tables. Or maybe Mike Huckabee will have some sort of party at one of the local pubs. He could have a cash bar, so he wouldn't have to pay for peoples drinks.I can only wish. But like I said before. He doesn't need to buy my support.
Yeah, I know, my scanner is messed up.

More Debate Details

I got some more details about the Michigan Debate, from Saul Anuzis', Michigan Republican Chairman, blog.

  • - Yesterday we finalized plans with the University of Michigan at Dearborn and CNBC along with the Wall Street Journal to host a Republican Presidential Debate in Dearborn to be held on October 9th.
CNBC will broadcast the debate live from 4-6 pm to catch the evening media cycle nationwide and then again from 9-11 nationwide.
This debate will be focusing on “economic issues” effecting Michigan and the rest of the country. I can think of no better place than the home of the domestic auto industry as well as the home of the “Reagan Democrats” to host this debate.
As nationals Democrats continue to disenfranchise independent and Democrat voters in Michigan and Florida…we are excited about the prospects of having a monopoly type opportunity for our candidates to share their vision, frame the debate and most importantly make their pitch to the independent swing voters and Reagan Democrats in both Michigan and Florida!
We need to take advantage of the Democrats blatant disregard for the voters of these two key states from an electoral college perspective. Democrats haven’t won the presidency without carrying at least Michigan in recent history.
We will soon have a separate web page and information about the debate as the plans start to materialize. This is exciting news for Michigan and the Michigan Republicans!
See my vblog announcement moments after CNBC announce the debate:

As soon as the webpage is up I will let y'all know! This is a terrific time to live in Michigan right now, Mike Huckabee, Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, a Republican Debate.

I Can't Keep Up!

Michigan Politics and Tourism

Since there is only two weeks until the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference I thought I would start talking more about Michigan and Mike Huckabee's chance in Michigan. Since I work in tourism and Michigan has so many great places to see I would also like to spotlight many of the great things to see in Michigan. I will be talking about other Huckabee stuff too.
I may also be giving reruns of some of my former Michigan posts. I would like to get everyone psyched for the upcoming conference. I am really looking forward to this. I am also looking forward to the Rep. Paul Opsommer (R-Dewitt) Reception next Saturday, on Mac Isle, at the Grand Hotel. I will be wearing my Mike Huckabee button with pride and will talk about him to anyone who is willing to listen. This will be perfect timing. People will get to hear about him before they get to meet him on the island.
Perhaps I am too optimistic, but I think Mike does have a chance in Michigan. Another fellow blogger says he thinks Michigan will go to Romney. It looks like that so far. Although once Michiganders get a chance to hear about Mike Huckabee they will like what they hear. Mike Huckabee is down to earth. He truly cares about everyone. He thinks all people deserve a chance to better themselves. If he had been campaigning in Michigan even half as much as Mitt Romney he would already be in the top of the polls here.
Message to Mike Huckabee and/or Huckabee campaign:
I want to take time to speak to anyone in the Huckabee campaign who may be reading this. I want to seriously send out my apologies for anything I have said. After yesterday's blogger conference call I realized that I was right the first time. Mike Huckabee is the one to support.
Also, I hate to sound like a nag, but I really want to help volunteer when Mike is on the island. For the past few weeks Mitt Romney has been asking people to volunteer for the island, but I have not heard from the huckabee campaign. I have let the Huckabee campaign know that I am willing to help out. I hope I have not ruined my chances. If I have been forgiven, please let me know what I can do. Please don't give up on Michigan and only halfass Michigan. Mike Huckabee does have a chance here.

More About James Kennedy

I recieved an email about info for a memorial service on live streaming video, Sept 13 at 1pm, web adress is www.DJamesKennedy.com. While he was not as well known as Jerry Falwell, he will be missed. He did preach about morals, with a calm and warm heart. The Coral Ridge Ministries was one of the best shows I watch on Sunday mornings.

Mike Mentioned on Saul's Blog

Guess what y'all? Saul Anuzis, Michigan Republican Chairman, mentioned Mike Huckabee on his blog.

  • - The Republican debate in New Hampshire gave the country another opportunity to see our potential nominees.
Immigration debate kicked off the debate. NO Amnesty.
Huckabee hit a home run with his response about Iraq and when he talked about “honor” and standing “united”.
Overall the leading candidates stayed on top…Huckabee continued to surge and the field continued to solidify their position. No big surprises from my perspective.

Home run, did ya catch that? Looks like maybe Mike is be taken seriously in Michigan. Read the rest of here. The beginning talks something about Fred Thompson and after about Mike Huckabee is Michigan related.

Repbublican Debate in Michigan!

Post Debate Bloggers Call

Today I participated in another blogger call. I did get my question answered. It was not the original question I wanted to ask last week. But I felt this was the time to ask this question. No, it was not about what was upsetting me. But I felt that asking this question might help me gauge other things, without Mike Huckabee feeling like I was mentally assaulting him through the phone.
Before I start off on my Q & A with Mike. He said he was glad to join the bloggers. He hoped we all got more sleep then him. He had to be at this mornings interview with FOX News at 2:30am. Obviously he didn't get much sleep. I thought that was nice that he would take the time with us bloggers. He sounded very tired. He's probably telling his staff about a "funny dream" he had about being on a conference call.
Bob Kleg from New Hampshire joined in on the call, to give a New Hampshire perspective. Mr. Kleg said that Mike Huckabee is the Main Street candidate who will stand up for America. He also said that New Hampshirers aren't impressed with wordy rhetoric and slick ads. They are interested in the issues.

Now for the question I asked. I started off with saying, "None of the candidates have talked about welfare reform. What are your thoughts on this issue? If you were president what would you do to help the recipients get off assistance and get jobs?"
He answered, "The reason none of the candidates have not talked about it is cause they haven't been in the position I have." He went on to say that he was governor of Arkansas in 1997 when the welfare reform idea was started. He said that the challenge is to get the recipients proper employment, education and job skills. He said it can be dangerous, because those who have kids still need their kids to receive medicaid. If the parents are off welfare, the kids don't get insurance.
As a pastor, he saw many people who struggled in poverty. They wanted to work. They wanted the dignity that a job would give them. But they also wanted a job that would help them with family expenses. He said that welfare reform should be about not handouts, but handups. He said that it is a myth that assistance recipients would rather receive state money. I agree and disagree with him. I believe there are people who want to lift themselves up. But there are some people who don't care.
When he was governor he implemented a a program called ArKids First. It was a program that gave children of poor working parents insurance. I will research this and get back to ya about it.
He said that there was an irony in when he had to go before Congress, when he was chairman of the governors association, and talk about welfare reform. He had to sit in front of Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Nelson Rockefeller. He said, "here I was, being lectured about welfare reform from these three guys who grew up lifestyles of privilege, and I grew up in a life of poverty." Or something to that effect.
In the end, he said people should be given tools for a better life and make more money on a job rather than on assistance. Once people are off assistance they are empowered. They don't have the government telling them what their budget should be. How much or little they should they eat. What they can buy at the grocery store. Nor would they be confined to living in government housing.
I have to add that I like government cheese, though. My great-grandma used to get government rations, and they included the funny looking, funny colored, funny textured cheese. AKA, the cheap Velveeta. Also, one of the older ladies from church gave me some government cheese. It took me back to old memories.

Well, I will get back with more of the questions. Before I go though, I want to say something. One of the questions posed to him was about his views on smoking, from OneMom. I don't know if she has the post about the call up or not yet. But anyways, he went into the issues of the health effects of smoking. He said he is allergic to cigarette smoke.
The reason I want to say anything about it is if ya recall when I went to Iowa I said met him and when he greeted me he gave me a hug. I thought it was nice and he didn't have to. But after hearing that I thought how cool about that hug. I am sure I smelled of smoke. I know people who are allergic to smoke and/or have asthma. They are really sensitive to cigarette smoke. So I am sure he could smell it.

God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

No, I do not look like the girl in the above pic, when I am on the phone. As ya know I am a huge Rockabilly fan. That is the album cover to my JP "Big Bopper" Richardson. I thought it fit for a blogger call.

David Brody's Comment on Mike Huckabee's Debate Performance

David Brody from CBN chimes in about Mike Huckabee and John McCain's debate performances.

  • Now, as for Mike Huckabee, can someone explain to me why he’s NOT in the top tier? Fundraising is a problem, yes but when it comes to debate performances, you can make the case that he’s the best candidate on stage. His line about Fred Thompson where he said he had been scheduled to be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno "but I gave up my slot to somebody else because I'd rather be here in New Hampshire with these fine people” was classic. But beyond that, he was very smart to compliment John McCain’s war service and honor. It positions Huckabee close to McCain’s principles and for Huckabee to ride the coattails of McCain on the issue of military honor and integrity is a good thing. Since Huckabee has a lack of foreign policy experience, it’s smart that he make the play that he did tonight. He also laid out his fair tax proposal in a very sensible way. Huckabee’s best moment may have come when he confronted Ron Paul over the Iraq war. Paul said the war is destroying the Republican Party but Huckabee said, ““We should not lose our honor and that’s more important than the Republican Party.” Then this line which may be the line of the debate: "Congressman, we are one nation. We can’t be divided. We make a mistake, we make it as a single country, the United States of America, no not the divided states of America.

To read about his thoughts on McCain, Romney, Giuliani and Thompson, click here.

Mike Huckabee on Fox and Friends!

Waiting for Mike Huckabee to come on. Did anyone catch Mitt Romney stealing (sort of) Mike Huckabee's Edwards haircut joke? Mike Huckabee did get 18% of the post debate votes, following Ron Paul at 33%, Rudy Giuliani at 15%.
Now I think he will be on.
Yup.
Gretchen is asking him about his humor. She wants to know if it is natural. He says maybe he gets it from his dad. He says his dad was funny.
On terrorism it's like a weed and is comparing dealing with it like a farmer. A farmer needs to focus on more than just the weeds.
About Fred Thompson's announcement. Mike says that if he wants to join in the race he needs to join in on debates with the rest of the candidates. Mike thinks if Fred was serious he should have been on stage last night.
On his momentum. Support is up 3 times. Donations are coming in faster.

Well now I am trying to stay awake for the Blogger's Conference Call. I did RSVP, just recently. I may be banned now. I don't know. We'll see.

Dr. D James Kennedy Passed Away Early This Morning (UPDATE: Posting on CBN and Quotes from Religious Leaders)

One of the Sunday morning shows I like to watch is Coral Ridge Ministries. The founder of Coral Ridge was Dr D James Kennedy. I love to watch this show. He had suffered a heart attack last year on December 28. The website is currently displaying a memorial to him and his dedication to Christ and morals in America.

What you will see when you get to the first page at http://www.coralridge.org/

  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
DR. D. JAMES KENNEDY DIES: FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA., (September 5,2007) — Founder and Senior Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Succumbs to Complications from Cardiac Arrest
Dr. D. James Kennedy, founder and senior pastor for 48 years of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church (CRPC) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed away peacefully in his sleep at approximately 2:15 a.m. at his home with his wife and daughter by his bedside, following complications from a cardiac event last December. He was 76. Dates and times for a public viewing and funeral and private interment will be released when available. more...

  • “Now, I know that someday I am going to come to what some people will say is the end of this life. They will probably put me in a box and roll me right down here in front of the church, and some people will gather around, and a few people will cry. But I have told them not to do that because I don’t want them to cry. I want them to begin the service with the Doxology and end with the Hallelujah chorus, because I am not going to be there, and I am not going to be dead. I will be more alive than I have ever been in my life, and I will be looking down upon you poor people who are still in the land of dying and have not yet joined me in the land of the living. And I will be alive forevermore, in greater health and vitality and joy than ever, ever, I or anyone has known before.”

I was reading some of the posting on CBN about James Kennedy's passing.

"Jim Kennedy was a towering figure among evangelicals. He was a brilliant theologian with a passion for evangelism. All of us who knew and admired him mourn his passing." -- Dr. Pat Robertson

"For more than forty years, Dr. D. James Kennedy has influenced our culture in countless ways ranging from education to politics. He was a pioneer in evangelism and a bold champion for Christian principles. His strong intellect and firm grasp of history made him an important apologist for the Christian faith. He demonstrated that being a Christian meant standing up for our beliefs, and also living with integrity. As the pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida he set a high standard both for local churches and national ministries. His public service has left a lasting legacy for the Christian faith that will be felt for generations to come. He was a personal friend, and a friend of our ministry. For many years, it has been our privilege to telecast 'The Coral Ridge Hour,' a program he hosted. We count it an honor to have worked closely with Dr. Kennedy and his staff. Our prayers are with his family and Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church during this time." -- David Cerullo, Chairman and CEO of The Inspiration Ministries

Again, Mike Huckabee Makes the Most of a Debate

I did manage to watch the repeat episode of the debate. Mike did great. I found an article in The New York Observer that is more level headed than my take on the debate. This is a good article that talks about all of Mike's responses.

  • Understandably, the chatter this week has been about which candidates will be most hurt by Fred Thompson’s just-announced candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. But on the eve of his declaration on Sept. 6, there was more evidence that the biggest x-factor in the G.O.P. race is not from Tennessee. The eight non-Thompson candidates debated in New Hampshire – and this time there actually were verbal confrontations that justified the use of the term “debate” – and it provided still more signs that the man to watch may actually be Mike Huckabee.

About Fred Thompson's no-show

  • This was a very good night for Mr. Huckabee, starting just a few minutes after 9:00, when Fox News, obviously irked that Mr. Thompson had spurned its debate in favor of Jay Leno’s couch, devoted the first several minutes of its broadcast to settling the score. Who, moderator Brit Hume asked the candidates, made the smart choice: Fred Thompson for choosing “The Tonight Show,” or all of you for choosing New Hampshire?
  • Batting lead-off, Mr. Huckabee joked that he’d originally been offered Mr. Thompson’s guest spot on “The Tonight Show” but had turned it down because he’d rather be with the people of New Hampshire. Then he compared Mr. Thompson to “No Show” George Jones – nicknamed, he said, for frequently standing up concert audiences. The other candidates made similar points, though not as colorfully as Mr. Huckabee did. This Fred-bashing is particularly helpful to Mr. Huckabee’s political game plan: Any Huckabee nomination scenario demands a victory in South Carolina, the same early primary state where Mr. Thompson’s son-of-the-south credentials will most resonate.

Comparing Mike to Mitt

  • Then there was the rest of the debate. Time and again, Mr. Huckabee asserted himself as the strongest orator of the bunch, combining the superficial – but ever vital – charm of Mitt Romney with a remarkable ability, honed during his years in the pulpit, to address bloodless policy topics in a language that is accessible and appealing to the common man.

Mitt Romney umm , like, ya know, being it's, compared to Miss Teen South Carolina

  • Before it was Mr. Huckabee’s turn to answer the Iraq question, John McCain and Mr. Romney had a brief dust-up on the same topic. Mr. Romney, plainly in over his head, tried to run out the clock, sounding a bit like Miss Teen South Carolina as he stated – repeatedly – that “the surge seems to be working” but that he wouldn’t know for sure until General David Petraeus’ report is issued next week.

Personal message:

I am working on a pro-con list about why to support Mike Huckabee, and the pros win out. I will post those here. I try to be as honest as possible. I do not believe in reading articles, about any candidate, with blinders on. I try to look at every issue from all sides. Some of those sides I do not like. But no one is perfect. Perhaps Mike has been getting bad advice lately?

Don't forget that if you haven't signed up to attend the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, there is still time. And at last check, the Huckabee/Romney luncheon is still on for the same day and time.

God Bless from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan!

At this moment I am awaiting to see Mike Huckabee on FOX and Friends.

Send in the Clowns

Just finished watching the debates. Mike Huckabee did pretty good. I didn't catch it until 9:45. I am still not sure where I stand right now, about anyone. I still want to support Huckabee. I just don't know. Damn it, Mike. I went into watching the debate with high emotions. So it was hard for me to pay attention. I liked the arguing between Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. But even my 82 year old grandma could win an argument with Ron Paul. On national security and Iraq Mike did great. I want the Mike Huckabee I began supporting back. I want the party of Lincoln back. I will try to overlook some things, I just don't know, yet. I am thinking about writing a public letter to Mike Huckabee. I will not be giving links to what has upset me. I will not write anything negative about Mike Huckabee. This just sucks!
I felt vindicated after the debate when FOX News went to a restaraunt in New Hampshire and the reporter asked them to raise their hands if they felt disapointed. Everyone, except maybe one or two people, raised their hands. During the debate mitt Romney kept his perma-grin, the entire time. Ron Paul was tip-toing through the daisies. Rudy Guiliani is looking older, just in the past few months. Right now, John McCain isn't looking too bad.
I see the demise of the Dems and Reps coming sooner than I had thought. I went through all these guys with a fine tooth comb before I came to support Mike Huckabee. I didn't like what I found. I thought Mike was different. Right now I feel as though he is no different. Please, show my why I shouldn't give up. Someone, anyone, give me a good reason.

I have added a new poll. It's about welfare reform. Please vote and/or add your comments. I would like to know what my readers think, since I don't know what the candidates think. Scroll down to below the Christian link.

Mike Huckabee on 700 Club

I am about to watch the 700 Club. I am awaiting to see Mike Huckabee on the show. Today is "Skinny Wednesday" on the show. They always have focus on excersise, healthy eating and healthy lifestyle on Wednesdays. I hope that doesn't mean that they will only ask Mike about health and excersise. Not that health isn't a serious issue. I want to see them ask more. Please; Pat, Kristi, Terry or Gordon, ask something of substance.
David Brody reports on Mike Huckabee. If I miss anything I will watch again at the 10am showing. David Brody talks about Mike's social conservatism, money, Capitol Offense (Mike's band), God in Mike's life. He is talking about Mike trying to break into the top-tier and his great second place showing in Iowa. Huckabee's surge in media is being talked about. They also talked about Mike being named one of the top 10 governors in Time Magazine. Critics are wondering if Mike is too nice. Mike just said he is nice, just don't cross America then he won't be nice. With money and strong showing could help lift him up. The issues are the ideas that need to lift him up. Mike thinks he has the right issues. They are showing Mike wanting to be the "president who wants to 'nail the going out of business sign on the IRS.'" David Brody said that "whether you see him as Preacher, comedian, or band member he wants you to see him as president.
Pat Robertson is saying that Americans like to see the good old boy from the South and that Mike might have a chance to pass Rudy, Mitt and John. Kristi just said that "most of us have only heard of the three names, but give Mike Huckabee a chance.
This was a terrific interview! I am glad that they talked about all the issues, not just Mike Huckabee's weight loss, of 100 pounds. It was such a great interview, I will watch the second episode. I think I included everything. If not I will add more after the second episode.

Jennifer Granholm Signed the Bill!

Michigan's Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) signed the bill to let Michigan have the Jan 15 Presidential Dem/Rep Primary to be held in Michigan.

  • Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed a bill moving both of Michigan’s presidential primaries to Jan. 15. Michigan’s move threatens to set off a chain reaction that could force Iowa and New Hampshire to reschedule their contests even earlier than anticipated, perhaps in the first week in January or even December 2007.

Read the rest here.

You can say whatever ya want about her, but she did have the guts to defy the National Dum (I mean Dem) Party. She put the state of Michigan first. Don't think I am switching to the other side. One good deed don't write out 100s.

Republican Debate

Watch the Republican Debate tonite on FOX News at 9pm EST. If ya want to ask a candidate a question go here. I asked my question. If it is asked I will definitely will post about it. Don't worry, I was sober when I asked and it was only two sentences. I followed the instructions to be simple, "Please keep your question sharp, brief and to the point." I didn't target the question at a specific candidate. I wanted to see who would answer. Considering my past two posts ya might can guess what it was about. Anyways, remember to watch the debate tonite at 9pm EST.
Cheer on Mike!

Glenn Beck's Letter to Mexican President

Glenn Beck has a response to President Calderon of Mexico, after Caldron's State of the Country Adress.

Intro from email notification

  • El Presidente
  • The President of Mexico gave his state of the nation speech, which interestingly enough was spent mostly on bashing America. Could it be perhaps that the President of Mexico doesn't want his people to notice that Mexico sucks? President Calderon said that 'where there is a Mexican, there is Mexico. Mexico does not end at its borders.' Miss Teen South Carolina couldn't have said it better. Seriously. In response to El Presidente's harsh words, Glenn responded with vigor in this non-sarcastic letter of praise. Read the transcript. (Insiders listen here).

  • GLENN: An open letter to President Felipe Calderon. Coming off Labor Day, Mr. President, there is just not a better time to talk about the American worker than now. Hard working, dedicated, loyal, resourceful, inventive, honest. The American worker is the model by which employees around the world should aspire to be like, but there are those jobs that exist that even the mighty American worker just won't do. Luckily that's where you come in, Mexico. I'm so excited to hear the news that trucking companies from Mexico are now operating freely here in the United States. Honestly it seems like such a logical idea with absolutely no flaws whatsoever. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, Felipe? It's not like your country has millions of peoples willing to pile themselves up like human sardines just to cross the border illegally. No, uh-uh. If that were the situation, then I'd be a little worried. However, since Mexico has a vibrant economy, a surplus of great jobs, unmatched pride and simply no corruption whatsoever, I'm completely at ease with the idea of giant trucks from Mexico roaming around here in the U.S. if you didn't have a country with such integrity and such spirit, one might consider this program simply a bad idea. Plus, it's not like there's all kinds of drug problems south of the border or terrorists out there are looking for new ways to penetrate our border with large caches of weapons or even a nuclear weapon. That's certainly not happening and if it was, I'd certainly be concerned if that threat were out there, obviously if terrorists knew about available transportation across the U.S. border with such large storage capacity, we'd be all over them because they'd be all over that. But thankfully Americans know that no amount of money besides maybe $75 or, call me crazy, a hundred bucks is worth selling out America over to any Mexican. >From the bottom of our hearts, President Felipe, we'd like to share this monumental step towards a borderless north Mexico with a toast. To Mex-Ameri-Canada. Seriously, you provide us so so many valuable goods, many more than the commonly known imports from Mexico, hoards of illegal immigrants, hard core narcotics, and those funny hats. You give our large corporations really cheap labor, and I don't even know how to repay you for that. Felipe, I've got to run. Got to get back to the beach, but I'd like to close by addressing the naysayers to let you know that they don't speak for the majority of Americans. Well, actually they do, but you don't have anything to worry about with those guys because the people in charge, the American politicians, they don't listen to the naysayers, either. So relax, kick back, and enjoy Labor Day. Sincerely, just some slug from America.

Reform Welfare and Close the Borders! (and whatever)

Please excuse my language and spelling. I am in the mood for a martini. Normally, I try to be semi-professional and not drink and blog. But what I am about to talk about is my biggest political peeve. So I need a drink.
I am so sick of hearing politicians talking about closing the borders from one side of their mouths. Then they say from the other side of their mouths that the illegals are taking the jobs that Americans don't want. That is bullshit!!! The thing that needs to be done first is REFORM welfare.
When politicians talk crap like this thay are not helping the welfare and government assistance issue. They are making it sound like it is more honorable to take tax payer money than "pluck chickens." I would expect this attitude from Democrats, but now that attitude comes from Republicans, too.
Not one candidate has talked about welfare reform. Personally, I think Dems and Reps are in cahoots about welfare and assistance. They both are power hungry and want to see as many subjects be beholden to them.
I don't want to see people starving and kids without shoes and clothes. I don't want to just take away from people. What I want to see is incentives to go off assistance. There is no incentive when politicians tell the recipients they are no better than people who cross our borders illegally, if they get a decent job. There is no incentive when they find out they make more money on assistance than working at McDonalds, dig ditches or clean houses and hotels.
Not one damn politician has the balls to bring up this issue. Ya can say what ya want to about Nixon, but on this issue, he had balls. Back in the late 60's or early 70's he talked about the welfare system needing an overhaul. No one took him seriously. I'll tell ya what, if I had been around and there was computer blogging I would have taken him serious.
Back in the 1950's, Dwight Eisenhower said that something needed to be done about the borders. If only it had been said in reverse. Ike should have been talking about welfare and Nixon should have been talking about the borders. Then things could have been taken care of by now. I guess hindsight is 20/20.
Not everyone in this country has a college education. Not everyone is able to attend college, whether because of money or the way their brains work. Some people just are unable to work within the confines of college. It's not because they are stupid. Possibly they are smarter than the average college student and their minds are always going. If people are given an incentive to work jobs that will help them pay the bills they will work those jobs.
This used to be a damn good country. Those pioneers and colonists who founded this country worked their asses off to make this the freakin spoiled country that it is now. Im sure they broke their backs so that their descendents could have a better life, but they did not forsee this. If those people could come back to life they would be shocked to see politicians demeaning hard labor.
Those people never said, "Gee, I'm too good to pluck chickens. I am from Europe," or in cases of when the West was being expanded, "from the East, I am above slopping hogs. I don't want to clean the outhouse or bed pans." These great people never said, "Why don't we get some of those Spanish-Mexican mixed people to do our work while the rich sit at a fancy carved wood desk and the poor take money from our newly formed government." How long would the "new country" last? Yet, the same politicians who romanticize the colonists and pioneers demean the hard work these great early Americans did by saying the menial labor they did was worthless.
The men had to chop trees on their own to clear land. They used horses to till the land. They built their own little cabins, not some custom made McMansions on credit. They hunted their own food. They worked day and night.
The women made everything from scratch. When they were pregnant, they still worked in the little veggie gardens, cooked and cleaned 'til the day they popped out their babies. They never said, "look at all these wild animals, death and disease. Maybe I should just stick a spoon up my !@$@$." No they took that baby into their life. Granted there were a rare few who did abort, but not many. There was some bastard children, but not many. They didn't spoil their kids and put their lives aside for that kid. They knew the difference between an adult and kid. They also knew that it was an adults world and adults came first. The men weren't there with video cameras on her @$@#$ when the baby was born. The men were smoking cigars with the other guys.
Back to the subject at hand. It's about a combination of laws and culture. Right now those who make the laws are changing the culture. They're changing the culture to say that hard work won't get ya anywhere. They're changing the culture to discourage people to hard work.
I am not anti-immigrant. I am into genealogy. Most of my ancestors are from Europe, 8 countries and possibly Native American from dad's Illinois and Arkansas sides. These people worked hard to get here, and they worked hard when they got here.
I don't want to defend the abortionists and the reasons women who get abortions. But at the time I think that once something is done about welfare reform and the border, it will reduce abortions. Republicans just want to simplify the issue. They say it is a Christian issue and it's about morals. Yes it is about morals, but it's also about standard of living.
If ya have a young teen girl who is fourth generation welfare recipient and ends up a an unwed pregnant she will just give up thinking that there will be nothing for her kid to live for. She will think that it is more honorable to recieve welfare than work a job that is "for immigrants" and support her child. Let's tell that young girl to lift herself up, take a job, any job, work her way to becoming sucsessful and be a role model for the child she will give birth to. Maybe that kid will be the first generation to not be born into welfare. Perhaps he can grow up to attend college and get a decent job.
Thank you for reading my Ted Kennedy style blogging from the polar opposite ;).

Mike Huckabee to appear on the 700 Club

Mike Huckabee will appear on the 700 Club tomorrow. I still want to keep up my belief in Mike being the candidate to support. I will definitely watch and report on what he says and how him and Pat Roberts interact. The show is syndicated, so times differ depending on areas. Check your local listings. I can view the show at 9am EST on the local ABC channel. It is also shown on the Family Channel at 10am EST.

Finish Line

After I arrived in Mac City I walked toward the line to get on the school bus to get back to St Ignace. The line stretched from one end of Mac City to the other. The wait to get back was 3 hours. About 20 buses did not show up, plus there was more people than expected. Walkers from as far as California and Texas came for the 50th bridge walk.

Not to be A Gloomy Glum, But...

I don't know why I am posting my frustrations, but I am. I just read an article that has made me rethink things. I hope to God it ain't true or I am reading it wrong. I don't want to talk about it until I know for sure what is up. But if things are true, I have just given up on politics, Republican or Democrat. This includes Mike Huckabee.
Some of you may be mad at me for my thoughts. Some of you may never read this blog again. Some of you may leave angry comments. I don't care.
Everything I thought is messed up. I have been busy following Mike Huckabee stories and blogging since March. I went to Iowa to help volunteer. Rode a bus for 22 hours each way. Just spent $130 dollars to attend the convention on Mackinac Island and attend the Romney/Huckabee luncheon.
All that time I could have been doing other stuff. The money I spent for the convention could have gotten me 2 months of groceries at Wal-Mart.
Not even Elvis can help. I played the video of him singing "If I Can Dream" a few times. The only thing I got out of it is the world hasn't changed any since 1968. People are still selfish. Politicians are still corrupt.
Please, understand what I am going through. My heart just sank when I read this. I desperately don't want this to be true. I hope my frustration is just from being in the sun too long today. I really don't know what to do right now. I will be keeping up Huckabee links, until I know what is going on. After that, I don't know? Perhaps my frustrations will wane and I will delete this post.

Bridge Walk

Today I walked across the Mackinac "Mighty Mac" Bridge. I wasn't really planning on it. Originally I took my camera to work so I could take pics of the bridge walk right after work. I got down there and just felt the rush of excitement, so I joined in.
It was great to walk accross that bridge and admire the work of the iron workers from 50 years ago. The only politicking that was going on was when I got off the bridge there were some protestors holking signs that said impeach Bush and whatnot. Ron Paul supporters were there, handing out fliers. I do have to give them credit for motivation and being there. One of the unions was having a picnic and they had a big ol Hillary sign.
I will report more tomorrow and show pictures. To read more about the walk click on the article in the Freep.

  • UPDATED AT 6:50 P.M.: MACKINAW CITY — Daniel Geske was only 4 years old when he trudged across the newly constructed Mackinac Bridge nearly a half-century ago. On Monday, he was back — with lots more company than before.
About 57,000 people walked, jogged or wheeled over the 5-mile-long span linking Michigan’s lower and upper peninsulas, while 50 others added a new twist to the Labor Day ritual by swimming across the straits below.
“I’m just proud to be here, and I anticipate being here for the 75th year, too,” said Daniel Geske, 53, of Grand Rapids, who made the crossing with a half-dozen family membersThe walk continued a 50th anniversary celebration for the world’s third-largest suspension bridge. The crowd was larger than in recent years, prompting officials to keep the walking period open longer.People usually are required to begin between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. This time, those bringing up the rear didn’t get under way until about 3 p.m. Some had waited up to three hours in Mackinaw City for bus rides to the starting point on the bridge’s northern end.

Make or Break Time for '08 Hopefuls

Here is some video from NBC News about the '08 candidates from both sides. It talks about how the campaigning already got into full swing before the traditional post-Labor Day campaigning. Stuart Rothenberg says the campaigning is more at a sprint than a kick off. And guess what, Mike Huckabee was seen, quickly, in this video. Maybe the media is starting to take him seriously? There is also talk of Fred Thompson's Sept. 6 "big announcement" (eyes rolling back in head). A short clip from "Meet the Press" has talk of him already having missed his chance. One dude says that expectations have been so high that now he will have to try to meet those expectations. Where have I heard that said before...could it have been from...MIKE HUCKABEE? The correspondent, John Harwood, says Americans have been paying more attention to the race than they have before and will be paying even more attention as the time draws near.
Watch it here
Also read Huckabee Hound's post about Fred Thompson being too chicken to partake in the Setember 5 Republican Debate on FOX News. The picture he has with the post is absolutely hilarious!

Mike Around the Web

Here are a few articles around the web about Mike Huckabee. He talked about Hillary Clinton, Larry Craig and Fred Thompson.

Huckabee eyes matchup with Clinton

  • LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Sunday he would make a strong Republican opponent to Democratic front-runner and former Arkansas first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a race for the presidency.
Huckabee said his nomination would set up a sharp contrast between the two and energize voters toward the Republican ticket. Conservatives would be wrong to think that someone more like Clinton could draw more votes and defeat her, he said on ABC's "This Week With George Stephanopoulos."

Huckabee Reacts to Craig Resignation

  • Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee of Arkansas says Republican congressional members acted admirable in calling for the resignation of disgraced Idaho Senator Larry Craig. Craig -- who pleaded guilty in a gay sex sting -- stepped down from office yesterday.

Huckabee Says His Results Give Him Edge Over Fred Thompson

  • Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says he's confident he can compete for the Republican nomination against actor and former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson.Thompson is expected to formally announce he's running for the White House this week.On ABC's "This Week," Huckabee said his experience leading a state and addressing key issues like health care and education give him a real advantage over Thompson. He also said his accomplishments as governor could help him compete with candidates like current Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.Huckabee said he considers her a much more formidable White House contender than most of the other Republican presidential candidates would admit.

Top Ten Presidents

In my American history alert for today I found this article listing the Top Ten Most Influential Presidents.

  • Of the 42 men who have been president of the United States, there are some truly clear choices of who were the most important and influential presidents. There were also many who would never have made the list. My picks for the top ten influential presidents were based on their historical influence and their actions while in office. This was a tough list to create - especially once we move past the 7th president, hence my inclusion of an 'honorable mention'. Enjoy!
  • 1. Abraham Lincoln
  • Abraham Lincoln saved the Union during the American Civil War. His leadership during the war was one of no compromise but at the same time understanding that he would eventually have to unite the states once the North won the war. His actions eventually led to the abolition of slavery across the United States.
    Top Picks
  • 2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt
  • Having won four terms as president, FDR was sure to have a huge impact on the United States. His leadership throughout World War II was key to our victory. Further, he worked tirelessly to end the Great Depression including the creation of numerous programs through his New Deal to help Americans get back on their feet.
    Top Picks
  • 3. George Washington
  • As the first president, Washington couldn't help but set precedents that were followed by later presidents. His lack of a desire to be seen as a 'monarch' was an extremely important part of creating a citizen president. Also, the fact that he retired after two terms set a precedent only broken by Franklin Roosevelt. After Roosevelt's death, the two-term limit was added as the 22nd amendment to the Constitution.
    Top Picks
  • 4. Thomas Jefferson
  • Through Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase, the size of the United States doubled overnight. Jefferson was a strong states' rightest who also realized the need for consolidating power in the federal government in certain instances.
    Top Picks
  • 5. Andrew Jackson
  • Jackson's election showed the rise of the common man. He was the first president elected from humble beginnings. His popularity was huge. Further, he was a strong nationalist who often made controversial decisions such as the removal of Native Americans east of the Mississippi. He was president during the 'Trail of Tears'. He also fought against the national bank.
    Top Picks
  • 6. Theodore Roosevelt
  • TR was an extremely influential president. Not only did he earn the title of 'Trust Buster' as president by fighting against corrupt businesses, but he also was deeply committed to conservation. He established numerous national parks to preserve the wildlife that was quickly being overtaken through industrialization.
    Top Picks
  • 7. Woodrow Wilson
  • Wilson piloted the ship that brought America onto the world stage. He made the first steps of leading us out of isolationism, violating Washington's tenet of avoiding foreign entanglements. He led America during World War I. His fervent hope was for the US to join a League of Nations, the precursor to the United Nations.
    Top Picks
  • 8. Harry S Truman
  • Harry S Truman took over after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. He made one of the hardest decisions in American History by deciding to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He presided over the end of World War II and set precedents for leadership during the beginning of the Cold War.
    Top Picks
  • 9. James K. Polk
